BUTTONSBERRY - Joe Dell Chambers, 72, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005 at Owensboro Medical Health System.
Born in Island Oct. 28, 1932 he was the son of the late Shultie and Ines Taylor Chambers. He was a retired blender operator for the Life Saver Candy Co. in Holland, Mich. and a member of Station Baptist Church in Sacramento. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Hugh Bryant Chambers, Elvis Chambers, Wayne Chambers and Jerry Chambers.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Mae Meschke Chambers; a son, Johnny Chambers of Hartford; a daughter, Delores Guill of Beechmont; two step-daughters, Ruth Amsink and Helen Duff, both of Holland, Mich.; three brothers, Abbie Chambers of Hanson, Donnie Chambers of Madisonville and Pete Chambers of California; a sister, Vivian Hartman of Holland, Mich.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 16 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Leslie Moody, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Station Baptist Church Cemetery in Sacramento.
Bernine Moore Slaughter
Bernine Moore Slaughter, 99, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005 at her residence.
Born in New York July 8, 1906, she retired as a nurse from the state of Ohio. She was a member of Fun over Forty, Kentucky Colonel’s Homemakers, South Carrollton Methodist Church and several other groups and organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Slaughter and a son, Lloyd Slaughter.
Survivors include a daughter, Grace (Jack) Martin of Bunnell, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Jean Huntone of Bakersfield, Calif.; five grandchildren, Larry (Dora) Martin of Shawville, Penn., Linda Richard and Edwin (JoAnne) Martin, both of Bunnell, Fla., John Martin of Port Orange, Fla. and WyAllen Huntone of Norman, Okla.; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren; two nieces, Betty (Rondle) Skimehorn and Darlene (Ronnie) Gossett; a nephew, Roger (Elaine) Shimehorn and several other nieces and nephews in New York, Fla. and Texas.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leslie Moody officiating. Burial followed in the Island Methodist Church Cemetery.
Catherine Kay Gray
Catherine Kay Gray, 76, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 19, 1928, she was a homemaker and a member of Woodson Baptist Church in Powderly.
Survivors include a son, Joey Gray of Central City; three daughters, Linda Griffin and Rita Gray, both of Central City and Terri Griffin of Bremen; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 18 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Polly Ruth Fields
Polly Ruth Fields, 69, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 23, 1936, she was a medicine technician at Sparks Nursing Center in Central City and a member of Tar Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James “Jim” Fields, Sr.; a son, James “Jimmy” Fields, Jr. of Central City; three daughters, Pam Lyons and Paula Mock, both of Elkton and Peggy Glenn of Guthrie; two sisters, Clemmie Keeton of Central City and Dorothy Hankins of Evansville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Uzzle Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Nelson Creek Cemetery.
Hazel C. Whitney
BROWDER - Hazel C. Whitney, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County April 13, 1921, she was a homemaker and a member of the Browder Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Les Whitney; a son, Robert D. Whitney; a brother, John Crabtree and three sisters, Lit Crabtree, Goldie Jameson and Rosie Morehead.
Survivors include two sons, Mike L. Whitney of Browder and Rick D. Whitney of Greenville; a brother, Charlie Crabtree of Luzerne; five sisters, Lou McGhee of Greenville, Mary Jones of Bremen, Martha Vincent of Graham, Alice McGhee of Owensboro and Annie Henning of Lewisport; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Shane Garrett officiating. Burial followed in Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder.
Marvin Walls
Marvin Walls, 68, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at Maple Manor Health Care Facility.
Born in Paoli, Ind. Dec. 12, 1937, he was a farmer and a member of the Apostolic Church in Central City.
Survivors include a sister, Patricia Hunker of Tucson, Ariz.; two nephews and an uncle.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Wayne Schroader officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lottie Mae Blocker
Lottie Mae Blocker, 93, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Center.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 24, 1912, she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Thompson of Brentwood, Tenn. a sister, Gweneth Deering of Central City; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Skipworth officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Moorlyn Stringer
LOUISVILLE - Moorlyn Stringer, 75, formerly of Central City, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 13, 1930, he was a retired auditor for Equifax.
Survivors include his wife, Lavonda Roberts Stringer; two daughters, Deborah Ashby of Atlanta, Ga. and Beverly Weber of Louisville; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 22 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Gregg Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sept. 21 at Tucker Funeral Home. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Kentucky School for the Blind.
Clarice D. Jones
Clarice D. Jones, 86, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 26, 1918, she was a homemaker and a member of Central City Church of God of Prophecy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amer Jones; three sons, Wendell Jones, Bernard Wesley Jones and David Wayne Jones and a daughter, Mildred Jones.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Jones of Luzerne and Conace Jones of Round Rock, Texas; six daughters, Justine Skaggs of Lake Malone, Barbara Veitch and Deanna Ryan, both of Chicago, Ill., Vonda Webster and Kathy Craig, both of Greenville and Debra Koenig of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren ; several great great-grandchildren and three nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Arnold Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Sept. 20 at Tucker Funeral Home.
JoAnna VanCleve Howard
CALHOUN JoAnna VanCleve Howard, 22, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at the Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Ga.
Born in Owensboro Aug. 27, 1984, she was a 2002 graduate of Webster County High School and attended the Calhoun United Methodist Church. She loved her children and enjoyed playing video games and working jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her husband, Pvt. Thomas Howard; a son, Jacob Dale Blackburn; a daughter, Railey Layne Howard at home; a step-son, Kaleb J. Howard of Owensboro; her parents, Edna June and J.R. Richardson of Cadiz and Jimmy and Leigh Ann VanCleve of Calhoun; her grandparents, Mamie Louise and George Sikes of Owensboro, Ronald and Patricia Clayton of Haines City, Fla. and Tom and Doris VanCleve of Calhoun; a great-grandmother, Rebecca Lewis of Calhoun; two brothers, James Lewis VanCleve, Jr. and Michael Thomas VanCleve, both of Calhoun; a step-sister, Jennifer Richardson of Crofton; a step-brother, Tony Richardson of Hopkinsville; four aunts, Clara “Sissy” (Wayne) Johnson of Central City, Marsha (Scotty) Layton of Calhoun, Rhonda (Jason) Reynolds of Sacramento and Tomi Nell (Nikos) Papanikolaou of San Antonio; an uncle, Buddy (Tabatha) Clayton of Sacramento; and many cousins and dear friends who will always love and miss her.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel, with the Rev. Ken Berggren and the Rev. Mike Grimes officiating. Burial followed in the Calhoun Cemetery.

Sammy Ray Blakeman
BEECHMONT Sammy Ray Blakeman, 56, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Centennial Hospital in Nashville.
Born in Henderson, Tenn. April 11, 1950, he was a Vietnam veteran and an instrument mechanic for TVA.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Washer Blakeman; three daughters, Honey Lynn (Tony) Peterson, Samantha Raye Blakeman and Tambra Lea Blakeman, all of Beechmont; his mother, Beatrice Blakeman of Paris, Tenn.; a brother, Darrell Blakeman of Covington, Tenn.; a sister, Marsha Blakeman of Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Tyrel Deonte’ Peterson, Treylan Antonio Peterson and Nickai Ray Peterson.

William Wade Evans, Sr.
DUNMOR William Wade Evans, Sr., 55, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at his residence.
Born in Butler County, Ky., June 1, 1951, he was a retired coal miner and a member of Mud River Union General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Cardwell Evans; three sons, William Wade Evans, Jr., of Nortonville, Ky., Timothy Van Evans of Peterburg, Ind. and Jesse Wavy Evans of Dunmor; three daughters, Jenny Browning of Nortonville and Tralena Kay Bandy and Shawna Renee Evans, both of Dunmor; five sisters, Twanda Arnett and Linda Palmer, both of Auburndale, Fla., Rhoda Bennett of Dundie, Fla., Dean Morgan of Bowling Green and Rita Johnson or Morgantown, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Frances Anne Milam
BURNA, KY Frances Anne Milam, 75, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at Livingston Hospital and Health Care.
Born in Dekalb, Ill. May 27, 1931, she was a member of Central Christian Church in Waukegan, Ill. She was formerly from Zion, Ill.
Survivors include two daughters, Jamie Barnes of Burna, Ky. and Jerrie Capp of Bristol, Wis.; two sons, John Milam of Glasgow and James Milam of Wadsworth, Ill; two sisters, Mary Baumgardner and Berta Hirt, both of Pa.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 16 at Beechland Baptist Church with Dr. Bill R. Tichenor officiating. Burial followed in Beechland Cemetery in Lewisburg, Ky. Price Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
John Bill McRoy
John Bill McRoy, 89, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 7, 1917, he was a retired coal miner and a member of Green River Chapel General Baptist Church, where he led the singing for 57 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Minnie Heltsley McRoy; two brothers, Hubert McRoy and Rondal McRoy; and three sisters, Irene Kitchens, Beulah Mae Bevil and Ann Belle Staples.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hibbs McRoy; three daughters, Carolyn (John) Culbertson of Greenville, Brenda (David) Crick of Enfield, N.C. and Denise (Don) McCauley of Central City; a brother, R.D. McRoy of Central City; three granddaughters, Chari (Rocky) Lane, Amy (Rick) Walker and Jill (Stan) Walker; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley, John Richard, Jacob, Michael and Stephanie.

Mildred Marie Hardison Stevens
DRAKESBORO Mildred Marie Hardison Stevens, 79, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Hopkins County Dec. 9, 1926, she was a print advertising manager at K-Mart and a member of First Baptist Church in Drakesboro. She was a member of V.F.W. Auxillary 5478 in Greenville.
Survivors include her husband, Farris Stevens; a son, Stanley Dewayne (Judy) Stevens of Ohio; a brother, Harold Hardison of Ill.; and three grandsons, Anthony (Alexandra) Stevens of Ontario, Canada, Jason Stevens of Mich. and Jonathan Stevens of Ohio.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 18 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Stovall officiating. Burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.
