GREENVILLE ­ Clarence Eddie Rhye, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 at Maple Manor Nursing Home.
Born in Hopkins County, May 9, 1916, he was of Pentecostal faith and retired from Hopkins County Board of Education. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Marie Rhye.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Dwyer Rhye; two sons, Maurice Rhye of Muncie, Ind., and Roger Eades of Greenville; a daughter, Carolyn Bratcher of Drakesboro; a sister, Oma Maddox of Madisonville; eight grandchildren, Ray Bratcher, Jimmy Bratcher, Ronald Bratcher, Allen Bratcher, Kim Hunter and Melissa Eades; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Shemwell officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Gerald Jordan Shaw

CENTRAL CITY ­ Gerald Jordan Shaw, 62, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at Kinderd Hospital in Louisville.
Born in Green County, April 16, 1941 to the late David Shaw and Daisy Russell, he was a construction worker. He was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Hayes Shaw; five sons, Marshall Shaw and Arthur Shaw, both of Central City, Tommy Shaw of Drakesboro, Jerry Shaw of Cleaton, Jimmy Shaw of Beech Creek; two daughters, LaVonda Bratcher of Cleaton and Angela Shaw of Central City; a sister, Edna Briggs of White Hall, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Tucker Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bethel Cemetery.

Roy Horsley, Jr.

GREENVILLE ­ Roy Horsley, Jr., 81, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 in the Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Garfield County, Aug. 21, 1922, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served his country as a tank commander. He was a coal miner for P&M Coal Co., and he and his wife owned Horsley Insurance Agency in Greenville for seventeen years. He also owned and operated Horsley Farms. He was a resident of Muhlenberg County for 56 years and a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Reva P. Horsley; two daughters, Jo Ann Horsley Moore of Greenville and Susie Horsley Williams of Ashland City, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Terri Ann Moore Carver of Lewisburg, William Chad Moore and Robbie Dwight Moore, both of Greenville, Jeffery Lynn Yonts, Jr. of Elkton and Roy Michael Yonts of Beechmont; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mae Horn of Chicago, Ill.; a half brother and half sister of Hardinsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18 at Gary’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday and after 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Albert L. Knight
ELKTON ­ Albert Lee Knight, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004 at Spring Meadows Health Care Center in Clarksville.
Born in Todd County Nov. 11, 1916 to the late Sam Norman and Rosie Trainer Knight, he was retired from Ardco and Frosty Mourn Packing Company and a member of Elkton Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy G. Knight in 1999 and a son, Paul Knight in 2000.
Survivors include three sons, Harold E. “Gene” Knight of Hopkinsville, David Knight of Lewisburg and Daniel Knight of Elkton; two daughters, Carolyn Cole and Marilyn McFerrin, both of Elkton; a sister, Margaret Stokes of Elkton; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Tommy Wilhite officiating. Burial followed in the Stokes Chapel Cemetery.

Charles W. Taylor

GREENVILLE ­ Charles Wesley Taylor, 80, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Greenville Sept. 4, 1924, he was the son of Thomas C. and Laura Pittman Taylor. Upon completion of his education at the University of Kentucky, he returned to Greenville to pursue his career in journalism. He was associated with the Greenville Leader/Leader-News for 49 years, serving as editor until his retirement in 1999. He was a life-long member of the Greenville Country Club and served on its board of directors. He was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church and the Live Wire class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McDonald Taylor, a twin brother, Tom Taylor, a sister, Jean Thompson and a grandchild Sally Ann Cornette.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Cornette of Greenville, Melissa Linkes and Elizabeth Theobald, both of Lexington; a sister, Ann Mulligan of Greenville; five grandchildren, Amy Cornette Henderson, Charlie Cornette, Thad Cornette, Mallory Theobald and Abby Thoebald and two great-grandchildren, Ben and Tom Henderson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Greenville United Methodist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Greenville United Methodist Church or the Muhlenberg County Humane Society. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Susan C. Carey

SLIDELL, LA. ­ Susan Countzler Carey, 50, formerly of Greenville, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at Tulane University Medical Center due to respiratory arrest.
Born in Virginia Oct. 7, 1953 to Richard and Martha R. Countzler of Greenville, she was employed as a pharmacist with Eckerd’s and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Slidell.
Survivors include her husband, Bradford Carey; her parents; a brother, John Countzler of Owensboro and a sister, Anne McKnight of Durham, N.C.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 15 from Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Friends may call at 9 a.m. Sept. 15 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville.

Barbara E. Knight

LEWISBURG ­ Barbara Elnore Knight, 60, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Greenville Aug. 15, 1944 to Gladys Winsett of Greenville and the late David Larkin Winsett, she was employed by Emerson Electric and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, David Knight; her mother; two daughters, Tammy Jane Ziegler of Washington, Ind. and Terry Lynn Lassiter of Krum, Texas; two sons, Jeffrey “Seymore” Lamont Moore and David Louis Moore, both of Russellville; a brother, Douglas Winsett of West Plains, Mo.; four sisters, Rosa Jackson of Crofton, Phyllis Groves, Debbie Durham and Sarah Winsett, all of Greenville; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Ronnie Forrest officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Lewisburg.

Mary G. Stanley

GREENVILLE ­ Mary Gerldine Stanley, 68, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 21, 1936, she was the daughter of Mary Ann Stanley of Greenville and the late Finas Stanley. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ellis Wayne Stanley.
Survivors include her mother; three brothers, Glenn Stanley and Marty Lynn Stanley, both of Greenville and Ray Stanley of Graham; and three sisters, Charlotte Ann Lear and Gloria Stamps of Greenville and Dorothy Joan Johnson of Wilmington, Ill.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Herschel Drake officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Grace C. Brown

DRAKESBORO ­ Grace Cisney Brown, 88, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at her residence following a short illness.
Born in Rosewood Sept. 11, 1915 to the late Evander Taylor Cisney and Orah Dee Rust Cisney, she was a member of the Drakesboro Methodist Church where she was a pianist and assistant organist. She taught junior and senior high students in Sunday school for many years. She retired from the Muhlenberg County School system with 34 years in the teaching profession. She earned her B.S. degree at Western Kentucky University and began her career with a salary of $62 a month. She taught grades one through eight at Tooley School, grades one through eight at Greenbrier School, fourth and junior high at Dunmor, third, fourth and junior high at Drakesboro. Following her retirement, she served on the Muhlenberg County Library Board. She loved card playing and frequently played twice a week. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edward Moss Brown Sr. on June 16, 1994, as well as her parents, and brothers, Leo (Audrey) Cisney, Hubert (Lois) Cisney, Wayne Cisney and sisters, Verna (O.R.) Shutt and Verda (Jack) Corley.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith LaFlare of Drakesboro; two sons, Edward M. (Fredia) Brown Jr. of Bardstown and John Gregson (Jackie) Brown of Mount Vernon, Ill.; four grandchildren, Robyn (James) Roark of Goshen, Christopher (Jamie) Brown of Bardstown, Jennifer (Brian) Murphy of Lawrenceburg and Scarlet Brown of Pawnee, Ill.; four great-grandsons, Christian, Nathaniel and Colin Roark of Goshen and Grant Owen Brown of Bardstown; and a sister-in-law, Francis Cisney of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 11 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Martin Robertson officiating. Burial followed in the Ebenezer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Habitat for Humanity of Muhlenberg County or Drakesboro United Methodist Church.

LaDona M. Malone
GREENVILLE ­ LaDona Morris Malone, 69, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Maryland Sept. 24, 1934 to the late David and Norma Gray Morris, she was a member of Luzerne Baptist Church, the Bell South Pioneers and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 5478. She retired in 1993 from Bell South as a second line supervisor after 40 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; a nephew, Timmy “Bear” Evitts in 1989 and a stepbrother, Billy Wayne Gray.
Survivors include a sister, Leona (Truck) Evitts of Greenville; a niece, Stephanie Ledure of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and six nephews, Randy Gray, Tony Gray, Chris Gray, Brent Gray and Don Newcom all of Henderson and Chris Evitts of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Pharris officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Powderly.

Martha A. Putman
GREENVILLE ­ Martha Amy Putman, 88, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Christian County July 6, 1916 to the late George and Oma Putman. She was retired from the Christian County School District where she was a dedicated teacher for fifty years. She began teaching in 1936 in one-room schoolhouses in the White Plains community and retired in 1986 from Lacy School in Christian County. She was a lifelong member of Mount Caramel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in White Plains. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Gennie Putman.
While there are no immediate survivors, her passing is mourned by several cousins including Anita (Rodney) Crick, hundreds of grateful students, her church family, her “special” family, Phil and Claudette (Cannon) Taylor and children, her caretakers and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 10 at Mount Caramel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in White Plains with the Rev. John Shoulta officiating. Burial followed in Concord Cemetery in White Plains. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roy Bryan (Dr. Mac) McEndre M.D.

LEWISBURG - Roy Bryan (Dr. Mac) McEnde M.D., 75, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005 at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville.
Born in Covington, Ky. Feb. 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Roy Bryan McEndre, Sr. and Ruby Jane Marshall McEndre. He was a veteran of the Army and served as a Captain in the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, graduated from the University of Louisville Medical School with honors in 1955 and moved to Logan County and began practicing medicine in Lewisburg in 1958 until his retirement in 2003. His medical practice included making house calls, delivering babies in his office, suturing patients in his home, performing office procedures, making hospital rounds, medical missions in Central America and living as a country doctor. He was a member of Elk Lick Baptist Church, American Medical Association, Kentucky Medical Association, Board of Director at Lewisburg Banking Company and the American Academy of Family Practitioners for 50 years. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Billie Hurd and Jane Dotson.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Ann Costello McEndre; five daughters, Janie Wilhelmus of Nicholasville, Ky., Nancy Powell of Greenville, Peggy Weldon of Adairville, Rhonda Dorris of Russellville and Dana Emberton of Glasglow and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 at Price Funeral Home Inc. in Lewisburg with the Rev. Tom Lawhon and the Rev. Troy Luttrell officiating. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery in Russellville.

Dana Lou Wilkins

GRAHAM - Dana Lou Wilkins, 68, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Weatland, Ind. April 9, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Ruth Littlejohn. She was a homemaker and a member of East Union Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Earlena Littlejohn.
Survivors include her husband, Arch Wilkins, Jr.; three sons, Jeff (Debbie) Wilkins of Greenville, B.J. (Darlene) Westfall of Belton and David Wilkins of Picket, Wis.; two daughters, Teresa (David) Puryear of Greenville and Valerie (Steve) Morris of Owensboro; a brother, David Littlejohn of Valparaiso, Ind.; a sister, Sharon Bethel of Nebo; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Watson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Paul Edward Noffsinger, Sr.

BREMEN - Paul Edward Noffsinger, Sr., 56, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2005 at Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
Born in Chicago, Ill. June 29, 1949, he was employed by Tennessee Valley Authority in the clerical department .
Survivors include a son, Paul Edward Noffsinger, Jr. of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Noffsinger of Central City; five brothers, Bobby Noffsinger, Donnie Noffsinger and David Noffsinger, all of Bremen, Steve Noffsinger of Providence and Ronnie Noffsinger of Greenville; five sisters, Joann Ball and Pat Pressley, both of Big Sandy, Tenn., Mary Latham of Elkton and Delores Woszczynski and Barbara Alumunddaris, both of Chicago, Ill. and five grandchildren, Michelle Nunez, Gena Noffsinger, Jonathan Noffsinger, Kavin Noffsinger and Jackson Whitehouse.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 12 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bremen.

Carrel K. Sumner

BOWLING GREEN - Carrel K. Sumner, 66, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Ennis Jan. 25, 1939, he was the son of the late Hubert and Florence Cummings Sumner. He was a Sunday School Teacher for the Young Adult Class and a member of Plano Baptist Church. He was a Chief Executive Officer for Commonwealth Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green, a member of the American College Health Care Executives, an orderly at the Old City-County Hospital and employed by the Medical Center and Commonwealth Health Care for 38 years.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Sumner; two daughters, Emily Sumner of Bowling Green and Terri (Rico) Tyler of Franklin, Ky.; two brothers, Harold E. (Betty) Sumner of Greenville and Robert “Bob” Sumner of Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Robin Tyler and Ryan Tyler of Franklin, Ky. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel in Bowling Green with the Rev. Richard Hale officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery.

William Jessie Rice

GREENVILLE - William Jessie Rice, 93, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 4, 1912, he was the son of the late Richard Baxter Rice and Fannie Ellen McWhiter Rice. He lived in the Greens Chapel Community, was a retired farmer and a member of the Greens Chapel General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Brooksie Rice; a son, William Donald Rice of Greenville; two grandchildren, Timothy Owen Rice and Dwight Alan Rice, both of Greenville and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at Greens Chapel General Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Evitts officiating. Burial followed in the Greens Chapel Church Cemetery. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
