Mary Ruth Coon Kennedy Capps
Sacramento - Mrs. Mary Ruth Coon Kennedy Capps, 79, of Sacramento died
Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following
a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Capps was born in Maceo on April 25, 1923, the youngest child of
the late Millard Fillmore and Sallie Edith Estes Coons. She was a 1941
graduate of Beechmont High School in Hawesville where she lived for
nearly 40 years. She retired from the American Olean Tile Co. in 1989.
She was a life long Baptist and a member of the Bethlehem Baptist
Church
in Bremen. She was a volunteer at the Sacramento Senior Citizens. She
was preceded in death by not only her parents, but also her brothers,
John W. Coons and Willard Berry Coons; and her sisters, Nannie Helen
White and Jamie Thelma Kieser.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Elmer G. Capps; five
children, Sondra Kennedy Powers of Simpsonville, James K. Kennedy, Jr.
and Allen E. Kennedy of Hawesville, Marilynn Kennedy of Owensboro and
Lisa K. Kennedy of Louisville; eight grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lucille C. Lambert of Henderson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 15, 2002 at James H. Davis
Funeral Home in Owensboro with the Reverend Leroy Rearden officiating.
Burial followed in the Serenity Hills Cemetery at Hawesville.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church
Parsonage Fund, Bremen, Kentucky.

Michelle Groves
Central City - Miss Michelle Renee Groves, 16, of Central City died
Saturday, June 15, 2002 in Greenville.
Miss Groves was born in Hopkins County. She worked as a cashier at
Kentucky Fried Chicken in Powderly. She was a member of Cedar Grove
Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother and step-father, Kathryn and Bruce Graddy
of Central City; father and step-mother, Riley Thomas and Ingrid Groves
of Bremen; one sister, Ashley Nichole Rich of Central City; four
step-brothers, Kris Rickard of Madisonville, Richard Rickard of Mortons
Gap, Nicholas Rickard of Bremen and Thomas Graddy of Athens, GA; two
step-sisters, Deanna Phillips of Athens, GA and Tummy Graddy of
Jackson, TN; her grandparents, Billy and Edith Groves of Lake City, KY; her
grandfather, Bobby Piper of Bremen; her step-grandmother, Judy Piper of
Bremen; her step-grandmother, Dorothy Graddy of Central City; and her
step-great-grandmother, Bessie Mae Nelson of Central City.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Tucker Funeral
Home in Central City with Reverend Rusty Trotter officiating. Burial
followed in Cedar Grove in Bremen.

Jeffery Neal Johnson
Drakesboro - Mr. Jeffery Neal Johnson, 44, of Darkesboro died Wednesday,
June 12, 2002 at his residence in Drakesboro.
Mr. Johnson was born in Jeffseron County on December 1, 1957.
Survivors include his mother, Orena Bates Johnson of Drakesboro; his
father, Billy Johnson of Gilbertsville; and one step-sister, Kim
Burkeen of Gilbertsville.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 16, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home
in Beechmont with Reverend Tom Stovall officiating. Burial followed in
Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Peggy Bennett
Johnston City - Mrs. Peggy Bennett, 66, of Johnston City died Thursday,
June 13, 2002 at Marion Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Central City on February 9, 1936 to the late
Claude and Fay (Brown) Staples. She was a long time employee at
Wal-Mart in Marion. She was preceded in death by not only her parents but also
one great-grandchild, Tyler Savant
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Bennett of Johnston City; Carmen
Savant of Johnston City, Cindy Robinson and her husband Steve of
Marion, Darren Bennett and his wife Debbie of Johnston City, Kelli Travis and
her husband Lance of Johnston City and Kerri Bennett of Johnston City;
six grandchildren, Erik Savant, Brock Savant, Hailee Robinson, Greg
Robinson, Katie Travis and Kegan Travis; two great-grandchildren, Kyle
Savant and Colten Simmons; and one sister, Frances Kopera of Herrin.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 16, 2002 at the Whiteash
Freewill Baptist Church in Whiteash with Reverend Eddie Null
officiating. Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the
American Cancer Society.
Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City was in charge of all
arrangements.

Ruby Lee O’Bryan Ellis
Central City - Ms. Ruby Lee O’Bryan Ellis, 84, of Central City died on
Tuesday, June 10, 2002 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Ms. Ellis was born in Daviess County on August 9, 1917 to the late
Charles and Mary Sanders O’Bryan. She was retired from the Muhlenberg
County Health Department as a registier and a member of St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Central City.
Survivors include one daughter, Patsy Sparks of Central City; four
grandchildren, D.D. Sparks, Bryan Sparks, Cindy Kirtley and Sherri
Sparks; six great-grandchildren, Jonathan Kirtley, Ryan Kirtley,
Michael Sparks, Turner Sparks, Adam Sparks and Joshua Hall; and one sister,
Mary Raben of Evansville, Indiana.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 13, 2002 at Tucker Funeral
Home in Central City with Reverend C.W. Duncan officiating and Reverend
Ben Luther assisting. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

James Vernon McIntosh
Dunmor - Mr. James Vernon McIntosh, 79, of Dunmor died Sunday, June 9,
2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. McIntosh was born in Muhlenberg County on December 1, 1922. He was
a retired laborer for Tannery. He was an Army World War II Veteran and a
member of the Penrod Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Janet Hall of Woodburn; four sons,
Mr. Mike McIntosh of Dunmor, Mr. Dale McIntosh of Copperas Cove, Texas,
Mr. Tommy Hall of Michigan and Mr. Joe Hall of Falmouth, KY; and four
sisters, Mrs. Irene Christie of Dunmor, Mrs. Nadine Costellow of
Lewiburg, Mrs. Dona Wood of Dunmor and Mrs. Mary Ann Stanley of
Greenville.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Price Funeral
Home in Lewisburg. Burial followed in Fitzhugh Cemetery in Lewisburg.

Jimmy Lee Winstead
Greenville - Mr. Jimmy Lee Winstead, 65, of Greenville died Wednesday,
June 12, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Winstead was born in McLean County on June 2, 1937. He was a
farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Moore Winstead of Greenville; six
children; two step-children; 10 grandchildren; and one sister, Mary
Blackman of Beech Grove.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 14, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home
in Central City with Reverend Chris Odle officiating. Burial followed
in Ebenezer Cemetery in Ebenezer.

James Thomas Simpson
Central City - Mr. James Thomas Simpson, 77, of Central City died
Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in
Greenville.
Mr. Simpson was born in Muhlenberg County on August 1, 1924. He was a
retired coal miner at Allen Creek Mine. He was a member of St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church and also a Volunteer Fire Fighter for many years. Mr.
Simpson was also a Veteran of the Army. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary Francis Simpson in 2002.
Survivors include one daughter, Amy Mary Simpson-Basting of Central
City; one son, Thomas R. Simpson of Bowling Green; one brother, David
Simpson of Central City; and one sister, Pat Simpson Vlahovich of
Spokane, Washington.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 14, 2002 at St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church in Central City with Father Ben Luther officiating.
Burial followed in the Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
Building Maintenance Fund or The American Heart Association.
Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of all arrangements.

Ulysses “U.M.” Forsythe
Dunmor - Mr. Ulysses Malachi “U.M.” Forsythe, 79, died Tuesday, June 11,
2002 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Mr. Forsythe was born in Butler County on September 3, 1922. He was an
employee at Whirlpool as an assembly line worker. He was of the Baptist
faith. He was preceded in death by his parents Ambrose Forsythe and
Elsie Forsythe.
Survivors include one brother, Mr. Alfred J. Forsythe of Dunmor.
Graveside services were held at Union Cemeteryin Butler County on
Thursday, June 13, 2002 with Randall Forsythe officiating. Burial
followed in the Union Cemetery in Butler County.
Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg was in charge of all arrangements.

Shirley Ann Tooley
Central City - Mrs. Shirley Ann Redfern Tooley, 52, of Central City died
Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System in Owensboro.
Mrs. Tooley was born in McLean County on October 29, 1942. She was a
homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Freeman Tooley; one son, Troy Tooley of
Greenville; one daughter, Kim Mercer of Florida; grandchildren Aaron
and Alex Tooley; three brothers, Junior Redfern of Livermore, Kenny Redfern
of Illinois and Frankie Redfern of Illinois; and one sister, Dorothy
Gray of Island.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Tucker Funeral
Home in Central City with Reverend Mark Knight officiating. Burial followed
in Island Methodist Cemetery in Island.

Wilson Texal Steele
Graham - Mr. Wilson Texal Steele, 78, of Graham died Tuesday, June 11,
2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville after several
months of illness.
Mr. Steele was born in Muhlenberg County on January 22, 1924. He was a
retired coal miner having worked for 38 years before ritiring. He was a
member of the John T. Crandel Masonic Lodge #457 F&A.M. and he was also
a member of the Corley Chapel General Baptist Church in Graham.
Survivors include his wife Wanda Steele of Graham; two sons, Jerry
Wayne Steele of Griffith, TN and David Greene of Graham; one step-daughter,
Mannie Sue Lightfreid of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patsy Ferrell of Demotte, IN and Mary
Alice Humphrey of Graham; and one brother, Gerome Dean Steele of
Hobart, IN.
Masonic Rites were conducted Thursday, June 13, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral
Home at 7 p.m.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 14, 2002 at Gary’s Funeral Home
in Greenville with Reverend Leon Smith officiating. Burial followed in
the Graham Cemetery.

Leonard Herbert McRoy
Central City - Mr. Leonard Herbert McRoy, 81, of Central City died
Sunday, June 16, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. McRoy was born in Muhlenberg County on December 13, 1920. He was a
guard at Venture Coal Company and a member of the Church of God. He was
also a Veteran of World War II.He was preceded in death by one
daughter, Betsy Tinsley.
Survivors include his wife, Ivalue Noffsinger McRoy of Central City;
one son, Keith McRoy of Bremen; four daughters, Hilda Waddell of
Greenville, Teresa Knight of Greenville, Judy McRoy of Central City and Mary Lou
Mansfield of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Timothy Tinsley,
Christopher Knight, Caleb Mansfield, Rebecca Whitmer, Kecia Blake,
Heather Waddell and Kristen McRoy; three brothers, Freeman McRoy of
Kirkwood, Missouri, Woodson McRoy of Owensboro and William McRoy of
Tennessee; and one sister, Agnes Walker of Owensboro.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Tucker Funeral
Home in Central City with Reverend Gene Harper officiating and Reverend
Rusty Trotter assisting. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bremen.

Dovie Delaney Cooper
Elkton - Mrs. Dovie Delaney Cooper, 80, of Elkton died Sunday, June 16,
2002 at her residence after a long illness.
Mrs. Cooper was born in Muhlenberg County on August 13, 1921 to the
late William Thomas “Dave” and Mira Davis Williams. She was retired from
Elkton Apparel after 35 years. Mrs. Cooper was also a homemaker and a
member of Taylor Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Fairy Mae Steger of Elkton, Mildred
McIntosh of Russellville, Elsie Shemwell of Sharon Grove and Betty
Coppage of Guthrie; three sisters, Viola Ford of Madisonville, Billie
Lou Crafton of Clifty and Ruthie Nell Cunningham of Earlington; 12
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren
and step-great-grandchildren.

William G. Fulkerson
Central City - Mr. William Gordon Fulkerson, 70, of Central City died
Sunday, June 16, 2002 at his residence in Central City.
Mr. Fulkerson was born in Muhlenberg County on February 11, 1932. He
was a self-employed logger.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ashley Fulkerson of Central City;
three sons, Clarence Taylor Fulkerson of West Liberty, James William
Fulkerson of Drakesboro and Darrell Lee Fulkerson of Greenville; four
daughters, Delois Jane Smith of Greenville, Jewell Mae Majors of
Powderly, Martha Louise Fulkerson of Central City and Susan Irene
Hankins of Morgantown; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
and brothers and sisters, Darrell Eugene Fulkerson of Nelson Creek,
Shirley Lee Fulkerson of Nelson Creek, Marine McIntire of Evansville,
Christine Embry of Evansville and Brenda Ziglar of New Castle, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 2 p.m. at
Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Chris Ball
officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.

Reverend James Goff
Central City - Reverend James Goff, 78, of Central City died Friday, June
14, 2002 at his residence in Central City.
Reverend Goff was born on March 19, 1924. He was a retired coal miner
at Crescent Coal Company and Minister of Pentecostals of Muhlenberg County.
He was also a member of UMWA. He was a Veteran of the Army World War II.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Goff and two brothers,
Willis and Ray Goff.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruby Goff of Central City; two
sons, J.R. Goff of Greenville and Wendell Goff of Soddy Daisy, TN; one
daughter, Theresa Campbell of Madisonville; six grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; his mother, Bessie Goff of Central City; two
brothers, Billy Goff of Central City and Glenn Goff of Graham; and
three sisters, Lucille Rule of Central City, Elaine Hawes of Central City and
Pat Latham of Bowling Green.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 17, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home
in Central City with Reverend John Cranor officiating and Reverend Ron
Hendricks assisting. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central
City.

James Darrell Seiber, Sr.
Madisonville - Mr. James Darrell Seiber, Sr., 61, of Madisonville died
Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Doctors Health and Rehab in Salem, Illinois.
Mr. Seiber was born in Muhlenberg County on July 5, 1940 to the late
Hugh A. and Nellie Mae Ferguson Seiber. He was a member of the Baptist
faith and worked as a machinist at George’s Screw Products in Chicago,
Illinois. He was preceded in death by one son, James Darrell Seiber,
Jr., and three brothers, Tommy Seiber, Bobby Seiber and Buck Seiber.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Shelton of Princeton and
Beverly Norris of Madisonville; two sons, Michael Seiber and Richard Seiber,
both of Madisonville; two sisters, Ruth Miller and Betty Piper, both of
Chicago, IL; one brother, Ernest Seiber of Madisonville and several
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 11 a.m. at
Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington with Reverend Rodney Wallace
officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington.

Lonnie Earl Adcock
Somerville, Indiana - Mr. Lonnie Earl Adcock, of Somerville, Indiana,
died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at his home.
Survivors include two brothers, Shelby Gene Adcock and Allen Edward
Adcock; two sisters, Beverly Sigers and Wanda Haire, all of Central
City; three sons, Lonnie Jr. Adcock of Hubstat, Indiana, George Arthur
Adcock and William Earl Adcock of Evansville, Indiana; two daughters,
Mary Robinson of Elberfeld, IN and Toni Duke of Evansville, IN; and
several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Mount Zion Assembly on Old Brownie
Road in Central City at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2002.
