Born in Muhlenberg County Jan. 30, 1920, she was a homemaker and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula (Donald) Doss of Bremen; two sisters, Mary Frances Jenkins of Central City and Owilda Loney of Graham; three grandchildren, Michael Paul Doss, Donald Deric Doss and Ronald Eric Doss; and four great-grandchildren, Michael Shane Doss, Joseph Taylor Doss, Whitley Faith Doss and Deric Braxton Doss.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 25 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City with the Rev. Dan Yeager officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Christopher Aaron Riley
GRAHAM Christopher Aaron Riley, 21, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at his father’s residence in Powderly.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 8, 1985, he was a mechanic at Bill’s Marathon Station in Greenville. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christina Ann Riley.
Survivors include his wife, Letasha Lyons Riley; his father, Mickey Riley of Powderly; grandparents, Louise Lyons of Belton and Harold and Shirley Carver of Beechmont; three brothers, Robert Ewing of Greenville, Greg and Scott Rager, both of Bremen; four sisters, Belinda Kauble and Lori Perry, both of Greenville, Anna Riley of Powderly and Karen Porter of Central City; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Aug. 25 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Everly officiating. Burial followed in the Jagoe Cemetery in Central City.
Thelma Lois Sparks
MADISONVILLE Thelma Lois Sparks, 91, formerly of Greenville, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 7, 1915, she was a retired merchant in Greenville and attended Corley’s Chapel Church in Graham. She was the spelling bee champion for Muhlenberg County while in high school.
Survivors include three sons, Larry (Elaine) Sparks of Greenville, David (Karen) Sparks of Bowling Green and Anthony Sparks of Madisonville; three daughters, Shirley Rowe of Greenville, Judith (Wayne) King of Hopkinsville and Brenda (Mike) Wheatley of Madisonville; a sister, Martha Harris of Bowling Green; 10 grandchildren, Brian King, Colin Moore, Scott Rowe, Win Rowe, Rebecca Rowe Baker, Nicky Sparks, Dr. Brad Sparks, Chris Sparks, John Franklin and Jason Franklin; and 15 great-grandchildren, Barry Majors, Kelsey Scott, Aaron Baker, Alexandra Rowe, Theresa Rowe, Fred Rowe V, Sarah Rowe, Jason Stewart, Johnathan Stewart, Lauren Sparks, Ann Taylor Sparks, Graham Sparks, Summer Sparks, C.J. Sparks and Erica Sparks.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at Corley’s Chapel Cemetery in Graham with the Rev. George Thompson officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Grace Eades
SOUTH CARROLLTON Grace Eades, 101, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Mrs. Nancy Epley’s Family Care Home.
Born in Muhlenberg County Aug. 11, 1905 to the late Herbert and Annie Millard, she was a member of South Carrollton Missionary Baptist Church since 1934, where she served as the church pianist for many years. She taught piano at Bremen and Sacramento high schools, and taught private lessons in her home. One of her first jobs was playing piano at the silent movies at the old state theatre (Selba) in Central City. She is a 1923 graduate of Central City High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvall Eades; a brother, Bob Millard; two sisters, Virginia McGowan and Anna Laura Wells; and an infant brother, Joseph.
Survivors include a son, Jim (Kay) Eades of South Carrollton; a daughter, Mary Virginia (Cal) Pigman of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Betty Draper of Fort Pierce, Fla. and Nancy (Charles) Day of Glasgow; a brother, Wayne (Rhea) Millard of Treasure Island, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kyle Eades of South Carrollton, Carole Christner of Portland, Ore. and Mary Lee Willette of Tucson, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Roberta Alice Bridges Chumley
ALBUQUERQUE, NM Roberta Alice Bridges Chumley, 86, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Born in Memphis, Tenn., Jan. 15, 1920, she was the daughter of Robert Arkenberg and Cornelia Jane Doyal Bridges. She was a graduate of Centertown High School in Centertown, Ky. and Bethel College for Women in Hopkinsville. In 1942, she received her B.A. in Education from George Peabody Teacher’s College and married Cecil Joe Chumley of Ala. She taught in Centertown while Cecil served in World War II. They moved to Greenville in 1946 and opened Chumley Jewelry Store, which remained in business until 1984. Over this time, she raised her two daughters, Cecilia and Jane, and taught at Muhlenberg Central High School and Greenville Elementary School. She was a long-time active member of First Baptist Church, Greenville. In the mid-50’s, Roberta joined Cecil in the jewelry business. After her husband’s death in 1986, she traveled abroad cataloging the collections of church school libraries in Australia and Brazil. Roberta helped develop the Duncan Cultural Center, serving as chairman of the board of directors for a number of years. She was also recognized for founding the Performing Arts Program in Muhlenberg County schools. In 2002, she moved to Nashville, Tenn. and in 2005 moved to the Albuquerque area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Joe Chumley.
Survivors include two daughters, Cecilia Chumley (William G.) Dail of Corrales, N.M. and Jane Chumley (Joseph H.) Harding of Janesville, Wis.; three grandchildren, David Bryan (Heidi Waldrip) Dail of Bangor, Mass., Amy M. Harding (Todd H.) Holden of Janesville, Wis. and Joseph Andrew (Lora Mitchell) Harding of Chicago, Ill.; and six great-grandchildren, Emmylou and Asa Dail and Tyler, Emily, Natalie and Ethan Holden.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Aug. 28 at First Baptist Church with Dr. H. Curtis Erwin and the Rev. Rob Gwaltney officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Michael Dean Carrigan
GREENVILLE Dr. Michael Dean Carrigan, 63, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Cook County, Ill., Nov. 7, 1942, he was an emergency room physician at Muhlenberg Community Hospital for 21 years. He graduated from pharmacy school at the University of Texas-Austin and from medical school at the University of Texas-Galveston. He completed his residency at hospitals in Dallas and Waco, Texas He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Carrigan; a son, Gregory Dean Carrigan of Greenville; a brother, Dennis Carrigan of Waco, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Yockov of Kehma, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 28 at Tucker Funeral Home with Father Ben Luther officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Christine Antoinnette Steele
BELTON Christine Antoinnette Steele, 35, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Indiana Feb. 13, 1971, she was a cashier in the banking industry.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Steele of Morgantown and David Hammers of Drakesboro; a daughter, Megan Steele of Drakesboro; her mother, Sandra Steele of Morgantown; a brother, Gary Steele of Belton; and a sister, Julie Steele of Morgantown.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 27 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with Father Ben Luther officiating.
Clara Mae Bell Dant
SACRAMENTO Clara Mae Bell Dant, 62, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at her residence.
She was born in Arkansas April 19, 1944.
Survivors include two sons, James Darren Williamson of Hartford and Loren Shane Williamson of Roann, Ind.; two brothers, Willis Wilkerson and Joe Wilkerson, both of Indiana; two sisters, Mattie and Barbara of Ind.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 28 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Powers officiating. Burial followed in the Sacramento Methodist Church Cemetery .
Tonoah Grace Blake
LYON COUNTY Tonoah Grace Blake, 3-month-old infant, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, in Lyon County, Ky.
He was born May 31, 2006, in Madisonville.
Survivors include his mother, Tamika Renae Jones of Earlington, formerly of Browder; his grandparents, Buddy and Debra Blake of Madisonville and Iva Senay of Nortonville; a brother, Tekoa Jones of Calvert City; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in White Plains.
Agnes Louise Calvert
EVANSVILLE Agnes Louise Calvert, 91, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 11, 1915, to the late Artie and O.C. Holland, she was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bremen. She enjoyed gardening, reading the Bible and attending church, spending time with her family, canning her home-grown vegetables and having fried chicken dinners with the whole family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Rastus) Calvert; two sisters, Lillian Morris and Margaret Jones; a brother, Ivan Holland; a grandson, Jerry Allen Calvert, Jr.; one niece, Albertine Bivins; and two nephews, Richard Morris and Danny Jones.
Survivors include her three sons, Bob (Jane) Calvert and Jerry Calvert, both of Evansville and Jimmy (Brenda) Calvert of Cadiz, Ky.; two sisters, Ava Hendricks of Evansville and Dorothy Morris of Central City; five grandchildren, Brian Calvert of Chicago, Karen (Taylor) Hayes and Marty (Beth) Calvert, both of Hopkinsville and Scott Calvert and Mark (Jani) Calvert, both of Evansville; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica and Hunter Hayes of Hopkinsville, Jeremy, Max and Casey Calvert, all of Evansville and Hailee, Ethan and Austin Calvert, all of Hopkinsville and two great-grandchildren, Chris and Katie Calvert.

Nancy Emogene Jernigan
GREENVILLE - Nancy Emogene Jernigan, 78, of Greenville, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born Oct. 6, 1924 in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, David A. Jernigan; one son, David H. Jernigan of Greenville; two daughters, Nancy Rouse of Midway, Ky. and Janie Faulkner of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery, also in Greenville. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Chauncey Dukes
GREENVILLE - Chauncey Dukes, 72, of Greenville, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at the Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 10, 1930 in Muhlenberg County, the daughter of Herman Whitaker and Maude Latham Whitaker, she was a retired legal secretary for Ron Bruce and was a 1948 graduate of Greenville High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenville.
She is survived by her husband, James L. Dukes of Greenville; one daughter, Melinda Ward of Springfield, Tenn; two sons, Randy Scott of Evansville, Ind., and Loyd Dukes of Dallas, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, at First Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Gary McAbee officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Garden Cemetery in Powderly. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements.
Leo Gary
Leo Gary, 73, of Central City, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
Born Aug. 1, 1930 in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired coal miner. He was a member of Green River Chapel General Baptist Church in Central City and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Morris Gary; one son, Barry Morris Gary of Crestwood; two daughters, Cindy Moore of Central City and Kim Ferguson of Greenville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one step great-granddaughter; and one brother, Rufus Gary, Sr. of Bremen.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery, also in Central City.
Georgia Oldham White
HENDERSON - Georgia Oldham White, 83, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
Born Dec. 30, 1919 in Graham, she was the daughter of Floyd Marcus Oldham and Velma Nevine (Minnie) Anderson Oldham. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Max White of Mission, Texas.
She is survived by one brother, Bob Oldham of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Geneva Walker and Christine Taylor, both of Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with her nephew, the Rev. Mark Walker officiating. Burial followed in Corley Chapel Cemetery in Graham.
Billy Ray Humphrey
LEMONT, ILL. - Billy Ray Humphrey, 58, of Lemont, Ill., died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at his residence.
Born May 5, 1945 in Chicago, Ill., he was district manager at an insulation company. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by two children, William David Humphrey and Kelly Nolan; three grandchildren; mother, Elizabeth Humphrey; and two sisters, Delores Dadej and Mary Garite.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Kyle Noffsinger officiating. Burial followed in Coleman Cemetery in Central City.
