Brother Paul Lawrence Jr.

MORGANTOWN - Brother Paul Lawrence Jr., 65, died Friday, July 29, 2005 in Morgantown.
Born in Spencer County, Ind. April 28, 1940, he was the son of the late Paul Oren Lawrence and Essie Rose Phelps Lawrence. He was pastor of Carve Rock Missionary Baptist Church, a member of The Gasper River Association of Baptists, an advisor at the Oak Ridge Christian Academy and founder of Carve Rock Christian Academy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise Cannon Lawrence.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Moore of Morgantown and Patricia Jarvis of Caneyville, Ky.; two brothers, Dallas Lawrence and Billy Jo Lawrence, both of Morgantown; a sister, Ethel McKinney of Morgantown; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Aug. 1 at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown with Bro. Gary Embry, Bro. Greg Hillard and Bro. Greg Brooks officiating. Burial followed in Brooklyn Cemetery in Morgantown.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Carve Rock Christian Academy.

Ava Elizabeth Lanier

ELKTON - Ava Elizabeth Lanier, 21 days, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. of natural causes.
Born in Clarksville, Tenn. July 10, 2005, she was the daughter of Matthew Lanier and Rebecca Marie Wofford Lanier. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Abbigail Marie Lanier July 19, 2005.
Survivors include her grandparents, Gary and Connie Wofford of Guthrie, David and Diane Lanier of Dover, Tenn. and Rick and Sue Eggleston of Russellville and her great - grandparents, Bernard and Maxine Wofford of Clarksville, Tenn., Mildred Bellar of Guthrie, Elna Haley of Lewisburg and I.B. Lanier of Weir.
Graveside services were held at 5 p.m. Aug. 2 at Highland Cemetery in Guthrie. Latham Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lettie Opal Beauchamp Sweeney

GREENVILLE - Lettie Opal Beauchamp Sweeney, 98, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Home after a few months illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 23, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Charles Granville Beauchamp and Nonie Pearl Allen Beauchamp. She was the oldest member of Friendship Baptist Church in Greenville and loved her church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, George Houston Sweeney in 1981 and two sisters, Vonnie Smith in 1986 and Delphia Newman in 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann (Garland) Conn of Greenville and Midge (George) Milam of Benton; two sons, Bobby Wayne (LeQueta) Sweeney of Festos, Mo. and Freddie (Carole) Sweeney of Hopkinsville; eight grandchildren; 25 great - grandchildren and a great - great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. Aug. 2 at Gary’s Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Friendship Cemetery Fund C/O Garland Conn, 1013 St. Rt. 181 South, Greenville, KY 42345.

Letta Lucille Groves Williams

GREENVILLE - Letta Lucille Groves Williams, 86, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at Belle Meade Nursing Home after several months illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 5, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Claude Groves and Nannie Corley Groves. She was a member of Bards Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Shelby Williams in 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin Williams of Graham and James Williams of Greenville; a daughter, Carlene Williams Duvall of Greenville; seven grandchildren; two step - grandchildren; 11 great - grandchildren; two step - great - grandchildren; two great - great - grandchildren; six step - great - great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 at Bards Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Beliles and the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Vernal Grove Cemetery in Depoy. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 at Gary’s Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Aug. 3 at the church.

Odus Judson Mefford

Odus Judson Mefford, 97, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 8, 1908, he was a faithful member of Beech Creek Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school secretary with many years of perfect attendance. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 75 years and was retired from Lester Motors with the reputation of an excellent mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Mefford and a brother, Ozra Mefford.
Survivors include two step - sons, Eldon Reynolds of Russellville and Leymond Reynolds of Glasford, Ill.; three step - daughters, Virginia Cartwright of Belton, Dimple Stahl of Hammond, Ind. and Linda Stewart of Washington, Ill.; two nieces, Frances Hughes of Hawesville and Naomi Baker of Penrod and a nephew, J.R. Mefford of Evansville.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. July 29 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. David Mefford officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Larry Newman Stevens

BROWDER ­ Larry Newman Stevens, 60, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County June 27, 1946, he was employed at J.H. Service in Central City as a splicer and welder.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Jean Stevens; his mother, Gladys Stevens of Central City; a daughter, Karen Renea Fox of Drakesboro; a brother, Evert Ray Stevens of Greenville; a sister, Dovie Ann Fleming of Browder; two grandchildren, Chellsya Renea Gish and Elizabeth (Gabby) Gish and two step - grandchildren, Jeremy Fox and Amber Fox.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 29 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Suttles and the Rev. Elgie Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Union Chapel Cemetery in Drakesboro.

Harlon Ray Jones

EVANSVILLE ­ Harlon Ray Jones, 72, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville following several weeks illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County May 4, 1934, he was retired from Lewis Bakery since 1996 where he was employed for 34 years. He was a member of The John Crandell Masonic Lodge #457. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rhea and Ethel Jones and a grandson, Andrew Michael Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Doris Jackson Jones; a son, Michael (Nancy) Jones of Evansville; a daughter, Connie (Rick) Brewster of Evansville; a sister, Dorothy Harris of Lake Station, Ind.; two brothers, Jerry (Sue) Jones of Bremen and Carl Jones of Madisonville; two granddaughters; two grandsons; a step - grandson; five great grandsons; two step - great grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 29 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Dr. Ron Osborne officiating. Burial followed at Old Bethel Cemetery near Greenville.

Kenneth Shanklin Sr.

ELKTON ­ Kenneth Shanklin Sr., 80, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Todd County Oct. 1, 1925, he was the son of the late John E. and Sarah Emily McCarter Shanklin. He was a farmer and a brick mason and a member of the Elkton Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, John A. Shanklin.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Verbie Tatum Shanklin; a son, Skipper Shanklin of Elkton; two daughters, Suzanne Slinker of Greenville and Terri S. Soyk of Elkton; a brother, Nelson “Red” Shanklin of Elkton; a sister, Winnie Daniel of Elkton; eight grandchildren and three great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 27 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Tommy Wilhite officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Providence United Methodist Church C/O Jo Miller Elkton Bank and Trust, P.O. Box 98, Elkton, KY 42220.

Milton Groves

GREENVILLE ­ Milton Groves, 79, died Monday, July 24, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 27, 1926, he was the son of the late Harvey and Lonnie Mae Wells Groves. He was retired from McIntosh and Sons Lumber Company in Todd County since 1997, where he was employed for 28 years. He was also a member of Rosewood United Methodist Church and an Army Veteran of WWII, where he served in the Pacific Theater. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Willodene Dukes Groves in 2004.
Survivors include a son, Milton Glenn (Tammy) Groves of Greenville; a daughter, Sue Groves of Greenville; three brothers, Harold Groves and Lee Groves, both of Greenville and Bernie Groves of Henderson; two sisters, Mildred Yates of White Plains and Mary Lou Taylor of Henderson; two grandchildren, DeLacy Groves and Autumn Otte, both of Greenville and a great - grandchild, Kylie Groves of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 27 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Bryon Groves officiating. Burial followed at New Cypress Cemetery in Greenville.

Sanford Bernard Chandler

GREENVILLE ­ Sanford Bernard Chandler, 76, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County Feb. 8, 1930, he was a truck driver for the Muhlenberg County Road Department, a member of Landmark Assembly of God Church and a U.S. Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elgean and Lola Chandler and a brother, V.J. Chandler.
Survivors include his wife, Glodean Willis Chandler; a son, Roger Chandler of Greenville; a daughter, Judy Jernigan of Greenville; three brothers, Orvil Chandler, Murvin Chandler and Bonnie Chandler, all of Greenville; a sister, Catherine Settle of Greenville; four grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 27 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Haire and the Rev. Anthony Knight officiating. Burial followed at Landmark Cemetery in Greenville.

John Louis Danner

BREMEN ­ John Louis Danner, 87, died Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County April 16, 1919, he was a retired farmer and a member of Shaver’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include five nieces, Dorothy Danner, Brenda, Daisy, Geneva and Gaye; four nephews, Bobby, Wayne, Leamon and Cecil; a step - sister, Virginia Bruce of Chandler, Ind. and two close family friends, Kenny and Rose Rager.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. July 29 with the Rev. Marty Robinson officiating. Burial followed at Shaver’s Chapel in Bremen.

Nellie Niceley Woodburn

NEWBURG, IND. ­ Nellie Niceley Woodburn, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville.
Born in Jessamine County April 6, 1929, she was retired from teaching in Muhlenberg County and Sacramento. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Woodburn April 8, 2006.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Wayne Woodburn of Bowling Green; three daughters, Karen Druen of Bowling Green, Judith Annette Fountain of Lakeside, Mont. and Myra Lynn Siekmann of Indianapolis; two sisters, Francis Beard of Sommerset and Helen Wise of Columbia, S.C and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 1 at Tucker Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Nall officiating. Burial followed at Shavers Chapel Cemetery in Bremen.

Jerry Glenn Strader

GREENVILLE ­ Jerry Glenn Strader, 59, lifelong Muhlenberg County resident, died Friday, July 28, 2006 at his residence in New Cypress.
Born April 14, 1947 in Muhlenberg County, he was the son of the late Bernie Glenn and Anna M. Caskey Strader. His childhood years were spent in Graham. As a young man, he served his country as a U.S. Army helicopter mechanic, stationed in Vietnam. He was employed by Wetterau and Bracken Coal Company. He was operator of Strader’s B.P. Station and owned Strader’s Garage, a venture that brought him great satisfaction in life. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Gary.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Sandra; two sons, Jason Glenn Strader and Jordan Lee Strader, both of Greenville; a stepson, Jason Jennings of Eddyville; a sister, Sue Vincent of Graham; a brother, Terry (Debbie) Strader of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Hunter Slinker of Owensboro and Abby Strader of Greenville and several extended family members including aunts, three nieces and dozens of cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 2 at Second Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Tommy Drury officiating. Graveside military services followed at New Cypress Church Cemetery. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society - Muhlenberg County Relay for Life Event.

Mary Edith Abbott

POWDERLY ­ Mary Edith Abbott, 88, died Tuesday July 25, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Butler County July 19, 1918, she was a homemaker and a member of Cleaton Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rollo Adler and her second husband, Clifton Abbott.
Survivors include two sons, David Adler and Harold Adler, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Barbara Everly of Central City, Nancy Clark of Drakesboro and Judy Croxton of Belton; a brother, Bobby Whittinghill of Lewisburg; five step - children; 14 grandchildren; 28 great - grandchildren and 12 great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 28 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Stovall and the Rev. Brian Clark officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Keisha Renee’ Walker

OWENSBORO ­ Keisha Renee’ Walker, 26, died Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro.
Born in Daviess County, Jan. 30, 1980 she was employed at Krystal’s Restaurant in Bowling Green and attended Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cleaton. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lillian and Eugene Phelps.
Survivors include her parents, Sandra Walker of Owensboro and Charles Walker of Carrollton; her grandmother, Willie Mae Tyler of Owensboro; a son, Skyler Walker of Owensboro; a brother, Darius Walker of Owensboro and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services were held at noon Aug. 2 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cleaton with the Rev. James R. Young officiating. Burial followed at West End Cemetery in Greenville. Bibbs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Leslie Yarbrough

GREENVILLE - Mary Leslie Yarbrough, 82, died Sunday, July 30, 2006 at her residence.
Born in Webster County July 28, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Woodford Glore and Myrtle Stevens Glore. She was a member of Duvall’s Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, the Rev. Carroll Yarbrough in March of 2000 and a granddaughter , Leslie Jane Boggess.
Survivors include three daughters, Dianna (Howard) Tinkle, Jenny Rowe and Linda (Mike) Simpkins, all of Greenville; two sons, the Rev. Curtis (Pauletta) Yarbrough of Eldorado, Ill. and Richard Yarbrough of Rosewood; nine grandchildren, Penny (Richard) Dukes, Marty (Pam) Rowe, Michelle Yarbrough, Dean (Tina) Rowe, Missy (Mark) Calloway, Rachel Yarbrough, Jenni Ruth (Larry) Shadowen, Duane (Polly) Yarbrough and Chris (Amy) Rowe and 14 great - grandchildren, Tyler, Courtny, Meagan, Morgan, Brittany, Chelsia, Autumn, Mason, Austin, Ethan, Tabor, Lexi, Reagan and Addison.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 2 at Duvall’s Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. David Youngblood officiating. Burial followed in White Oak Cemetery in Webster County. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sharon General Baptist Church.
