MADISONVILLE Amy Katherine Tolliver, 42, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville following a lengthy illness.
Born in Atlanta, Ga., Aug. 19, 1961, she was a graduate of Kentucky Weslyan college and Western Kentucky University. She was the organist at Greenville United Methodist Church in Greenville and a special education teacher at Muhlenberg South Middle School.
Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Christopher A. Tolliver; two daughters, Katherine LeAnn and Lauren Elizabeth Tolliver, both of Madisonville; her mother and father, the Rev. William W. and Dorothy Bowling of Louisville; a grandmother, Eva Whitehouse of Lexington; a sister, Nancy L. (Brad) Wood of Lexington; and a brother, the Rev. John W. (Lisa) Bowling of Middlesboro
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. July 28 at the Greenville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vernon Perdue and the Rev. John W. Bowling officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellow Cemetery in Madisonville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. July 27 at Gary’s Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. July 28 at the church. Memorial gifts may be made to the Tolliver Children Education Fund c/o Greenville United Methodist Church in Greenville.
Dixie Drake Bullock
Dixie Drake Bullock, 88, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 29, 1916, she was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Moorman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Margie “Hoss” Bullock and a daughter, Lucille Allender Myers.
Survivors include a son, Tommy Bullock of Central City; a daughter, Ruth Ann VanWey of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Nancy Dunlap of Savannah, Ga. and Mildred Smith of Hartford; four grandchildren, Sylvia Britton, Fred VanWey, Tonya Phelps and Chris Bullock; and eight great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 26 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Wilkins and the Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in Moorman.
Carrie Artenus (Teenie) Dickinson
GREENVILLE Carrie Artenus (Teenie) Dickinson, 85, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 9, 1919, to the late Pallias Earl and Carrie Leona Cobb Wagoner, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenville, a member of the V.F.W Ladies Auxillary #5478 and Madeline Chapter Eastern Star #163. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James Walter Dickinson.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Don (Beverly) Dickinson and Jeff (Sue) Dickinson, both of Greenville; a sister, Carmen Taylor of Greenville; five grandchildren, Cammie (Scott) McIntosh, Jarrod (Tracy) Dickinson, Krista (Jeff) Everly Taylor, Jon (Amy) Dickinson and Jason (Lori) Dickinson; six great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. July 26 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Dr. H. Curtis Erwin officiating. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville.
Fred H. Groves
HOPKINSVILLE - Fred H. Groves, 69, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at his residence in Hopkinsville after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Todd County, Dec. 10, 1934, to the late Benjamin Frank and Hollie Carver Groves, he was a heavy equipment operator, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Judges Chapel General Baptist Church in Hopkinsville. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil, Clifton, L.D. and Blannie Groves; and two sisters, Ola Wheeler and Nema Stokes.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Groves; a son, Micheal Fredrick Groves of Hopkinsville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. July 28 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Larry Shadowen and the Rev. Richard Day officiating. Burial will follow in Heltsley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. July 27 at Latham Funeral Home.
J.T. Millard
J.T. Millard, 86, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 11, 1917, he was a retired steel worker, a member of First Baptist Church, and a WWII veteran.
Survivors include a step daughter, Susan Smiley of Hartford, four step grandchildren; five step great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. July 28 at Tucker Funeral Home with Mr. Pat Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. July 27.
Ruby Lee Gorham
BEECHMONT Ruby Lee Gorham, 89, died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Logan County, Aug. 16, 1914, she was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Drakesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Gorham.
Survivors include a son, Roger Gorham of Beech Creek; two daughters, Iva Dell Knight of Drakesboro and Lynda Henderson of Beech Creek; four sisters, Mildred Oglesby of Drakesboro, Mazola Jackson and Iva Jean Mihelchic, both of Beechmont and Evelyn Yarbor of Cynithia, Ind.; seven grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. July 28 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Casebier and the Rev. Travis Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Drakesboro. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. July 27.
Abagale Ann Rager
BREMEN Abagale Ann Rager, 15 weeks old, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at her home in Bremen.
She was born in Nashville, Tenn. April 6, 2004.
Survivors include her parents, John and Bobbie Kaye “Tootsie” Rager of Bremen; a sister, Kelsey Kaye Rager; and grandparents, John and Martha Rager of Bremen.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. July 23 at Living Word Church with the Rev. Enoch Rich officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Bremen. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Carolyn Sue Travis High
CHAMBERSBURG, PA. Caroline Sue Travis High, 60, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born in Muhlenberg County, July 6, 1944, to the late Claude “Doc” and Lulu Anderson Travis.
Survivors include her husband, William E. High Sr.; two sons, Command Sgt. Major, William E. High Jr. of Ft. Campbell and Brian T. High of Chambersburg, Pa.; a daughter, Teresa High of Fayetteville, Pa.; three brothers, Claude Travis Jr. of Drakesboro, Bernard E. “Bear” Travis of Clarksville and Roy G. Mullins of Sugar Land, Texas; five sisters, Juanita Cline of Morganfield, Blanche Ferguson of Central City, Helen Mullins of Clintwood, Va., Justine Mullins of Bruno, W. Va. and Gwendolyn Rodriques of Avondale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were private. Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc. in Chambersburg was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Newman
GREENVILLE - Mary Newman, 87, died Friday, July 22, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Home.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 8, 1918, she was one of eight children of the late Frank Wesley Fitzhugh and Carrie Ola Welborn Fitzhugh, she was a devoted member of Carter Creek Church for more than 75 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, L.D. Newman, her oldest son, Marl T. Newman and all of her siblings.
Survivors include a son, Steve Newman of Greenville; a daughter, Marilyn Laster of Greenville; seven grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and three in - laws she loved like her own, Faye Newman, Bud Laster and Debbie Newman, all of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. July 25 at Carter Creek Church with the Rev. Kevin Burden and the Rev. Blayne Hall officiating. Burial followed in the Carter Creek Cemetery. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Arthur Lee Chandler
GREENVILLE - Arthur Lee Chandler, 66, died Friday, July 22, 2005 at Owensboro Mercy Health System following a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 2, 1938, the son of Henry Clay Chandler and Gola F. Lear Chandler, he was a farmer in the Greenbrier Church neighborhood and attended Olive Grove General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Chandler; a son, Michael (Melissa) Chandler of Greenville; a brother, Kenneth Chandler of Clifty; five sisters, Genevial Scott of Elkton, Barbara Wells of Lewisburg, Margie Wells and Wanda Anderson, both of Greenville and Bonnie Wilson of Pembroke; three grandchildren, Dustin Chandler, Brittany Chandler and Bailey Chandler, all of Greenville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 25 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Day officiating. Burial followed in the Greenbriar Cemetery.

Braxton Daniel Knight, infant, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County July 20, 2005, she was the daughter of Amanda Johnson of Central City and Brian Knight of Greenville.
Survivors include her grandmother and step - grandfather, Wanda and Everett Dabney, of Central City; her grandfather and step - grandmother, Norman and Shannon Vick of Greenville; her grandmother, Janice Knight of Greenville and her grandfather, Danny Knight of Rochester.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. July 22 at Old Bethel Cemetery in Central City with Mr. Kenneth Clapp officiating. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Douglas Earl Garrett
DRAKESBORO - Douglas Earl Garrett, 66, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.
Born in Muhlenberg County Nov. 26, 1938, the son of the late Oscar and Gladys Garrett, he was employed by York in Madisonville as a maintenance worker and was a member of Life & Praise Pentecostal Church in Greenville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Garrett and Lee Garrett.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Thompson Garrett, three daughters, Peggy Haley of Gainsville, Ga. and Belinda Staples and Phyllis Harris, both of Drakesboro; two step daughters, Brenda Bruce of Greenville and Marsha Lewis of Louisville; three brothers, Bobby Garrett of Evansville, Dale Garrett of Williamsburg, Ky. and Don Garrett of Central City; three sisters, Anna Toomey, Glenda Garrett and Cletta Richardson, all of Drakesboro and 10 grandchildren.

BREMEN - Herbert Finley Boykin, 80, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in McLean County Oct. 14, 1924, he was a farmer and attended the Sacramento Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Irene Whitmer Boykin; a son, George Boykin of Rumsey, Ky.; two brothers, Charles Boykin of Medina, Ohio and Edmund Ray “Shorty” Boykin of Madisonville; two sisters, Marie Ellis of Sacramento and Etta McClaine of Madisonville; three grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 21 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Harold Butler officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen.

ELKTON - Abbigail Marie Lanier, 9 days old, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville of natural causes.
Born in Clarksville, Tenn. July 10, 2005, she was the daughter of Matthew Lanier and Rebecca Marie Wofford Lanier.
Survivors include a sister, Ava Elizabeth Lanier of Elkton; her grandparents, Gary and Connie Wofford of Guthrie, David and Diane Lanier of Dover, Tenn. and Rick and Sue Eggleston of Russellville; her great - grandparents, Bernard and Maxine Wofford of Clarksville, Tenn., Mildred Bellar of Guthrie, Elna Haley of Lewisburg and I.B. Lanier of Weir.

Born in Muhlenberg County March 28, 1920, she was a homemaker and a member of the Beechmont Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Samuel Clark, a son, Desmel Faye Clark and a grandson, Jeffrey Harold Knight.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Keith Clark of Topeka, Kan. and Larry Wayne Clark of Penrod; three daughters, Deborah Ann Thurman of Centreville, Va., Vicki Lynn Stover of Decatur, Ala. and Bernice Mae Millard of Paducah; eight grandchildren, Paul Wesley Thurman, Michael Gregory Thurman, Tonya Michele Stover, Stephanie Lynn Langley, Andrea Leigh Horst, Tracy Marie Knight, Stacy Leigh Gibson and Brooke Leann Lambert and 13 great - grandchildren.
