GREENVILLE - Orbie Eugene “Mutt” Wimberly, 81, of Greenville, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 12, 1921 in Lyon County, he was the son of the late Terry Tharp Wimberly and Laura Gracell Stephens Wimberly. He retired from Peabody Coal Company in 1983. He loved gardening and woodworking and was a member of Freedom General Baptist Church in Depoy. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #5478 and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Wimberly Wedding; and by his grandson, Joey Tremayne Vincent.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Miriam Adele Hardison Wimberly of Greenville; one daughter, Jean Wimberly Vincent of Greenville; one son - in - law, Johnny Vincent of Greenville; one brother, “Mac” Wimberly of Greenville; one stepson, Jimmy (Pam) Wilhite of Mt. Washington, Ky.; nine grandchildren; ten great - grandchildren; and one great - great - grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19, at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Groves officiating. Burial followed in Vernal Grove Cemetery in Depoy.
Ewin McPherson
BEECHMONT - Ewin McPherson, 89, of Beechmont, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville following a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 4, 1914 in Todd County, he was the son of Clark Thomas McPherson and Bessie Walker McPherson. He was a member of Mud River Union Baptist Church and he enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a UMWA coal miner who retired in 1979 after 46 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Ozella Shemwell McPherson on March 26, 1984; by his second wife, Miral Agee McPherson on Oct. 22, 1990; by his third wife, Lena Mae McPherson in January of 1999; one daughter, Alinda Blake in January of 1991; and one son, Wayman Lee McPherson in 1955.
He is survived by five daughters, Jonell Drake of Owensboro, Bonnie Cartwright of Belton, Heddie Garrett of Belton, Brenda Young of Lake Malone and Peggy Beliles of Drakesboro; two sons, Cecil McPherson and Charles McPherson, both of Belton; 25 grandchildren; 35 great - grandchildren; ten great - great - grandchildren; one brother, Thomas McPherson of Beech Creek; four sisters, Beatrice Day and Omega Colymer, both of Greenville, Marjorie Morgan of Huntsville, Ky. and Elizabeth Blake of Fairdale, Ky.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 18, at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Day officiating. Burial followed in Jackson Cemetery at Leigh’s Chapel Church.
Doyle Fitzhugh
POWDELRY - Doyle Fitzhugh, 75, of Powderly, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born May 23, 1928 in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired Missionary Baptist preacher, having served in Muhlenberg and surrounding counties for 38 years. He was a member of Powderly Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Fitzhugh Knight.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marjorie Strader Fitzhugh; son - in - law, Woody Miller; daughter, Donna Miller of Beechmont; four grandchildren; and five great - grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, at the Powderly Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Modella T. “Granny” Dame
SACRAMENTO - Modella T. “Granny” Dame, 89, of Sacramento, died Friday, July 18, 2003 at her residence.
Born Dec. 25, 1913 in McLean County, she was a member of Cypress Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Dell Turley; her husband, Clarence Dame on May 30, 1974; three brothers, Melvin Turley, Graydon Turley and Thurman Turley; and one sister, Magdalene Barnett.
She is survived by one stepdaughter, Gladys Dame Revlett of Sacramento; one stepson, Charles “Buddy” Dame of Sacramento; ten grandchildren, two of whom she raised; 18 great - grandchildren; 29 great - great - grandchildren; a sister - in - law, Kathleen Turley of Sacramento; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, at Cypress Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Robert Chandler, John Smith and Steve Whitaker officiating. Burial followed in Poplar Grove Cemetery in McLean County. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Cypress Primitive Baptist Church. Ulyess Croft Jr.
BREMEN - Ulyess Croft Jr., 73, of Bremen, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Jenny Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville following a short illness.
Born August 17, 1930 in Muhlenberg County, he was the son of Loriene Bowen Croft and Ules Croft. He was a retired coal miner and had been employed at Island Creek Coal Company. He was a member of the Bremen Masonic Lodge #596 F. & A.M., Western Kentucky Consistory of the York Rite Rizpah Temple Shrine in Madisonville, Ky., and was also a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Ann Russell and Ashley Elizabeth Croft, both of Madisonville; one son, Steve Russell Croft of Greenville; six grandchildren; three step children, Bruce Jordan of Greenville, Sherry Thompson of Henderson and Brenda Rumple of Indianapolis, Ind.
Graveside services and burial were held Sunday, July 20, at Corley Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Neal officiating. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Jennie Louise Clemons
GREENVILLE - Jennie Louise Clemons, 81, of Greenville, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born May 22, 1922 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Reed (Alan Bret) Pritchett of Greenville; eight grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 22, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial was private.
Linnie Mae Cobb
MADISONVILLE - Linnie Mae Cobb, 90, of Madisonville, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Madisonville following a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 24, 1912 in Muhlenberg County, she was the daughter of Netter Stanley and Ann Julie Groves Stanley. She was a member of the Prayer and Worship Center in Nortonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Cobb, in October of 2000.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond Edward Cobb of Depoy and Hershel Jr. Cobb of Madisonville; 15 grandchildren; 50 great - grandchildren; 10 great - great - grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Linville of Hopkinsville and Josephine Cornette of Bremen; two brothers, Jay Stanley of Greenville and Sam Stanley of Central City.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 23, at 11 a.m., also at Gary’s Funeral Home, with the Rev. Johnny Long officiating. Burial will follow in Yeargins Chapel Cemetery in Graham.
William T. Fulkerson
EARLINGTON - William T. Fulkerson, 75, of Earlington, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born May 16, 1928 in Muhlenberg County, he was the son of Mary B. Mallory Fulkerson and the late Hobart Fulkerson. He taught school in the Hopkins County School system for 32 years, retiring from South Hopkins High School. He was also a carpenter and a member of the Earlington General Baptist Church. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia N. Fulkerson and by one brother, Walter Fulkerson.
He is survived by his mother, Mary B. Mallory Fulkerson of Greenville; three daughters, Vickie Fulkerson Noel and Rita Fulkerson Todd, both of Versailles, Ky. and Mary Fulkerson Bond of Nortonville; one son, William Bryan Fulkerson of Bowling Green; three sisters, Betty Willis and Jo Ann Fulkerson, both of Nashville, Tenn. and Imogene Wells of Clifty; one brother, Claude Fulkerson of Louisville; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, and from 9 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday at Reid - Walters Funeral Home in Earlington. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, also at Reid - Walters Funeral Home with the Revs. Phillip Bennett and Bobby Reno officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington. Memorial contributions may be made to Earlington General Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Janet Louise Strader
BREMEN - Janet Louise Strader, 85, of Bremen, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born Dec. 28, 1917 in Newport, Mich., she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Central City and was a retired factory seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Strader and one daughter Ruth Ann Capps.
She is survived by one sister, Elsie Graham of Cedar Springs, Mich.; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, at Sawyer Fuller Funeral Home in Berkley, Mich. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park Cemetery in Berkley.
Oscar Lee Perry, Jr.
OKEECHOBEE, FLA. - Oscar Lee Perry, Jr., 60, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Melbourne, Fla.
Born May 1, 1943 in Muhlenberg County, he was the son of Marietta Hunt Perry and the late Oscar Lee Perry, Sr. Oscar attended Williams - Jennings Bryan College in Bryson City, Tenn. on a basketball scholarship and then graduated from Tusculum University in Greenville, Tenn. with a degree in education. He served as a teacher with the Orange County School System in Orlando, Fla. while earning his master’s degree in educational administration and supervision. He served as principal of Englewood Elementary, Venice Elementary, Ashton Elementary and director of elementary education with the Sarasota County School District. He later served as associate school superintendent in the Fulton County Public Schools in Atlanta, Ga. and as deputy superintendent with the Austin Independent School District in Austin, Texas. He returned to Atlanta and served as the deputy superintendent of information services for the Georgia Department of Education before retiring to Okeechobee, Fla. where he was director of Information and Technology Systems for Okeechobee Health Care Facility. He was affiliated with Northside Baptist Church of Okeechobee.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Williamson Perry of Okeechobee; his mother, Marietta Hunt Perry of Lewisburg, Ky.; two sons, Lee F. Perry of Roswell, Ga. and Logan Hunt Perry of Okeechobee; two daughters, Kim R. Perry of Camarillo, Calif. and Jennifer (Andrew) Hutcheson of Beaufort, S.C.; two sisters, Wanetta (Byron D.) Ellis of Roswell, Ga. and Barbara (Jerry S.) Carney of Louisville; one grandchild; four nephews and one niece; one grand - nephew; and one grand - niece.
Visitation will be from 1 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at New Hebron Baptist Church in Penrod. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., also at New Hebron Baptist Church. Burial will follow in New Hebron Cemetery in Penrod. Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of local arrangements.
James Anthony “Tony” Keeling
BREMEN James Anthony “Tony” Keeling, 48, died Monday, July 12, 2004 at his residence in Bremen.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 8, 1955, he was an Iron Worker and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Depoy.
Survivors include his mother, Martha Blass of Greenville; his wife, Kathy Shanks Keeling; three sons, Tony Keeling and Robert and Dillon Noffsinger, all of Bremen; six daughters, Christy and Cindy Keeling of Greenville, April Griffin of Beaver Dam, Ashlin Keeling of Bremen, and Sabrina and Angelica Noffsinger of Bremen; a sister, Patricia Latham of Oak Grove; and four grandchildren, Sierra, Destiny, Alexus and Dashton Keeling.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 15 at Tucker Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Whitehouse officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery in South Carrollton.
Walter E. Wilkins
MURFREESBORO, TENN. Walter E. Wilkins, 97, died Monday, July 12, 2004 at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 21, 1907, he was a retired railroad worker.
Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. July 14 at Fairmount Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Michael David Fulkerson
MT. Washington Michael David Fulkerson, 27, died Saturday, July 10, 2004.
Born in Louisville, Oct. 12, 1976, he was employed by Mac’s Convenient Store in Mt. Washington and a member of Meadow Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James T. Smith, and Mattie Pauline and William Franklin Fulkerson; and his stepmother, Vanessa Fulkerson.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Freda and William Reeves; his father, David Fulkerson; his grandmother, Virginia Smith; two sisters, Sheila Lamonte and Mary Jean Fulkerson; and two stepbrothers, Wayne Reeves and Tony Minzenberger.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. July 13 at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home in Mt. Washington. Burial followed in Mt. Washington cemetery. Memorial gifts may go to the American Cancer Society, A.A. or to the Fulkerson family in care of the funeral home for final expenses.

DOUSMAN, WIS. Lorine Everett King, 87, formerly of Martwick, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 3, 1916, she was a homemaker and of the Lutheran faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Montgomery King and three brothers, Willie, T.J. and Hobart Sublett.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas King of Moorman and William King of Dousman, Wis.; a sister, Leona Waddell of Hobart, Ind.; five grandsons; and 10 great grandchildren.

Born in Todd County, March 25, 1922, to the late Hobart Lee and Annie Ford Tabb, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Susan Catholic Church.

Betty Payne Summers
LOUISVILLE Betty Payne Summers, 71, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the Norton Infirmary in Louisville following a lengthy illness.
Born in Christian County, Dec. 22, 1932, she was a 1950 graduate of Greenville High School and a member of Middleton Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Bob Summers; a son, Scott Summers of Louisville; a daughter, Susan P. Summers of Louisville; and three grandchildren.

Samuel J. Armour
POWDERLY Samuel J. Armour, 71, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at his residence in Powderly.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 5, 1933, he was a retired worker of the Greenville Car Wash.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Riley Armour; two sons, Jason Armour of Beech Creek and Jonathan Armour of Powderly; a daughter, Tina Lear of Powderly; a brother, Donald Armour Jr. of Louisville; three grandchildren, Miranda, Alyssa and Laura Beth Lear; and six step grandchildren, Taylor Demoss, Allyson and Blake Brasher, and Justin, Courtney and Michael Garrett.

Drexel Bishop
GREENVILLE Drexel Bishop, 79, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Ohio County, July 9, 1925, he was a retired test driller at Peabody Coal Company, a veteran of WWII and a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Greenville.
Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Jackson of Greenville, N.C.; Jeanie Spears and Barbara Bishop of Greenville, Gloria Clintsman of Lewisburg and Sharon Martin of Bremerton, Wash.; two brothers, Charles Bishop of Henderson and Ivan Bishop of Orange, Texas; a sister, Pauline Ashby of Centertown; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. July 19 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Vincent officiating. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville.

BROWDER Mabel K. Bradley, 82, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 8, 1922, she was employed by IGA Foodliner in Beechmont and a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church in Browder. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bradley.
Survivors include two sons, Clyde William Bradley of Henderson and Howard Dorris Bradley Jr. of Browder; five daughters, Patricia Sweatt and Joyce Rager of Central City, Connie Edwards of Bowling Green, Debbie Brock of Bowling Green and Susan Carver of Greenville; a sister, Annette Wint of Browder; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. July 19 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Neal officiating. Burial followed in Forest Grove Cemetery in Browder.
Clifford W. Kirk
GREENVILLE Clifford W. Kirk, 76, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.
Born in West Virginia, Aug. 9, 1927, to the late Elijah Kirk and Mamie (Music) Kirk Pound, he was an Army WWII veteran and a member of the VFW in Greenville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Henderson (Hardison) Kirk.
Survivors include a brother, Ervin P. Kirk of Hopkinsville and a sister, Loretta Phelps of Paintsville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. July 22 at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Bro. Sam Beeny officiating. Visitation will start at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Russellville.
