Clora Chester Atchley, 91, Fair Oaks Nursing Home, Jamestown, KY passed away Saturday, September 14, 2002 at the Russell County Hospital. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Leroy Atchley and Maurice Atchley, both of Cincinnati, OH, and Mitchell Atchley, Lexington, KY; three daughters, Dorothy Loiselle, Lexington, KY, Janice Barnard, Glendale, KY and Donna Atchley, Richmond, KY; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Homer, Eugene, Robert and Fred Atchley.
Funeral services were Tuesday, September, 17, 2002 at the Russell Springs Christian Church with Bro. Carroll Egnew officiating.
Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers were fellow church members and grandsons.

Buddy Russell Porter
Buddy Russell Porter, 71, Russell Springs, KY, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2002 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was a self employed manufacturer of special products and a member of the Antioch Christian Church and Craftsman Masonic Lodge #722 both in Casey Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Rose Curtsinger Porter; one son, Michael Russell Porter, Clearwater, FL; two daughters, Cindy Combs, Richmond, KY and Jenny Dunn, Paris, KY; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Gilpin; three grandchildren, Katie and Todd Price, and Carolyn Combs; two nieces and two nephews.
One brother preceded in death, Joseph H. Porter.
Funeral services were Sunday, September 22, 2002 by the Craftsman Masonic Lodge.
Interment was in the Antioch Cemetery.

Mildred D. Shepherd
Mildred D. Shepherd, 89, Columbia, KY passed away Friday, September 20, 2002 at the Hospice Care Center in Port Orange, FL. She was a homemaker and a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church in Indiana and attended the Millerfield Brethren in Christ Church. Mrs. Shepherd worked many years of her life, the last being at the Dallas Morning News, Dallas, TX. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sports, being an avid fan of basketball and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. She also enjoyed opening the winters in Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford C. Shepherd, Columbia, KY; one son, Wayne Shepherd, Lizton, IN; four daughters, Virginia (Bob) Wills, Thornton, IN, Linda Cunningham, Celina, IN, Donna (David) See, Ruskin, FL. and Beverly (Joe) Allison, Greenwood, IN; one sister, Grace Breitweiser, Deland, FL; fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, two sisters, two brothers, two grandchildren and one great grandson.
Funeral services were Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the Millerfield Brethren in Christ Church with Bro. Richard Lehman officiating.
Interment was in the Tarter Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Wills, Scott Vidito, Joe Allison, Chris Allison, Richard Franklin and Chris Dearborn.

Ira Marshall Bunch
Ira Marshall Bunch, 82, Jamestown, KY passed away Thursday, September 19, 2002 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. He was a farmer and a member of the Melson Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Bunch, Jamestown, KY; two daughters, Shirley Roberson, Russell Springs and Nancy (Gary) Gearlds, Edmonton, KY; one brother, Joe Bunch, St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Jason and Tim Polston and Christian and Brandon Roberson.
Funeral services were Sunday, September 22, 2002 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Molden and Bro. Curtis Ballenger officiating. Special music was provided by Gary Godby, Chris Coffey and Jeff Hubbard.
Interment was in the Haven Hill Cemetery in Columbia, KY.
Honorary pallbearers were Jason Polston and Brandon Roberson. Active pallbearers were Cordell Garner, Sammy Baker, Floyd Lair, Craig Jennings, Dean Mann and Mark Crockett.
Sadie Mae Bailey
Sadie Mae Bailey, 73, Jamestown, KY passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2002 at Liberty Care Center. She was a retired employee of Russell Sportswear and a member of Coffey Grove Separate Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Barry Bailey, Glensfork, KY and James Bailey, Jamestown, KY; two daughters, Elsie Luttrell and Debbie Burton, both of Russell Springs; one brother, James Lynn, Pittsburgh, CA; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Bailey.
Funeral services were Sunday, September 22, 2002 in the chapel of the Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Elvis Tucker and Bro. Matthew Dalton officiating.
Interment was in the McElroy Cemetery.

Dolorus Johnson
Dolorus Johnson, 75, Jabez, KY passed away Monday, September 16, 2002 at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Smith Grove United Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Zollie Alson (Sue) Johnson, Greenfield, IN; two daughters, Myrtie Sherlene (Bobby) Gadberry, Jabez, KY, and Sharon Elizabeth (Eddie) McQueary, Russell Springs; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 19, 2002 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Wilson officiating. Special music was provided by Osburn Roy, Janice Popplewell and Wilma Eller.
Interment was in the Stacy Cemetery in Jabez.

Mary Frances Shepherd, 84, Columbia, KY, formerly of the Millerfield Community, passed away Monday, September 23, 2002 at the home of a daughter in Louisville, KY. Mrs. Shepherd was a member of the Millerfield Brethren In Christ and a homemaker.
She was survived by three sons, ronald Shepherd, Louisville, KY, David (Dorinda) Shepherd, Goshen, KY and Ricky (Samantha) Shepherd, Paris, KY; five daughters, Laverne (Richard) Murphy, Louisville, KY, Hester (J.B.) Powell, Louisville, KY, Emilene (Alvis) Floyd, Kathleen (Ranel) Curry, Columbia, KY and Sherry (Ron) Thomas, Taylorsville, KY; four brothers, Howard Hitch, Ft. Mitchell, KY, Dempsey Hitch, Cincinnati, OH, Johnny Hitch, Columbia, KY, Alvin Hitch, Russell Springs, KY; three sisters, Lorena Shepherd, Columbia, KY, Edna Bennett, Birmingham, AL, Callie Clark, Richmond, VA; 22 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends survives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Hollis Shepherd, one daughter, Karren Shepherd and one grandson.
Funeral services were Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the Millerfield Brethren in Christ Church with Bro. J. Richard Lehman officiating.
Interment was in the Tarter Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard Murphy, J.B. Powell, Alvis Floyd, Ranel Curry, Ron Thomas, David Neat.

Ethel Maude Gray, 83, Jamestown, KY passed away Sunday, September 22, 2002 at the Russel County Hospital. She was a retired insurance clerk.
She is survived by three sons, Leonard Gray, McConnell, IL, David Gray, Freeport, IL and John Gray, Shorewood, IL; two daughters, Barbara Clark, Columbia, KY and Nancy Roy, Jamestown, KY; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the Columbia Nazarene Church with Bro. Bob McKenzie officiating. Special music was provided by Joyce Devore and Steve Stapp.
Interment was in the Russell County Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers were Hobert Wilson, David Morgan, Buford Blair, Donnie Bennett and Bob Hoots. Active pallbearers were Lyndel Pettey, Randy Burns, Lonnie Devore, Rodney Karnes, Jed York, and Donnie Brockman.
