Survivors include one son, Tony Johnson, Irvine, CA; one daughter, Sue Blair, Russell Springs, KY; three sisters, Evelyn Lee, Liberty, KY, Nina Dunbar, Russell Springs, KY, and Dinah Hurt, Louisville, KY; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren and special friend, Arlene Robertson. She was preceded in death by a son, Bro. Garry Johnson, a grandson, Tim Blair, five brothers, Bro. Roger Popplewell, Jack Popplewell, James Elmo “Mose” Popplewell, Otto Vernon “Red” Popplewell, Phillip Popplewell, and a son-in-law, Louis Blair. Funeral services were Sunday, August 10, 2003 in the chapel Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Richie Curtis officiating. Special music was provided by Janice Popplewell, Robin Riddle, and Amy Ballinger. Interment was in the McBeath Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roger Hart, Jordan Hart, Matthew Johnson, Rick Godbey, Benjamin Johnson, and Nick Johnson. Ronald David Flatt, 59, Russell Springs, KY passed away Friday, August 15, 2003 at his residence. He was a farmer and a member of the Creelsboro Christian Church. He was a 1962 Graduate of Russell County High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was the son of the late Delmas Marion and Nora Clayton Flatt. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Flatt, Russell Springs, KY; one daughter, Julie Marie (Brandon) Wade, Lexington, KY; one God Son, Rik Ward, Russell Springs, KY; two brothers, Kent (Shirley) Flatt and Robert Flatt, both of Russell Springs, KY. Memorial services were Monday, August 18, 2003 with Bro John C. Wilson and Rev. Tom Clark officiating. Interment was in the Potts Cemetery with full military rites by Fort Campbell. She was the daughter of the late Alice Hughes Twyford and Abraham Lincoln Twyford. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Friendship United Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Ada Thornton, Russell Springs, KY; one brother, Vernon Twyford, Elizabethtown, KY; three grandchildren, Jerry (Julie) Anderson, Noblesville, IN, Jimmy (Kathy) Anderson, Russell Springs, KY, Brenda (Harold Jr. ) Smith, Russell Springs, KY; three great grandchildren, Jennifer Crew, Russell Springs, KY, Carrie and Christopher Anderson, Noblesville, IN; and one great great grandchild, MaKenzie Crew. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Foley, Flora Gosser and by three brothers, Thomas, Lee, and Marvin Twyford. Funeral services were Tuesday, August 5, 2003 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Hart and Bro. Glen Richardson officiating. Interment was in the New Friendship Cemetery. Zelva Foley, 94, Russell Springs, KY passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Clear Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Festus (Helen) Foley and Rev. Egbert (Dora) Foley, both of Louisville, KY; one half brother, Harold Foley, Russell Springs KY; one special niece, Mary Foley and one special nephew, Hugh Polston and a host of other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Vernon Foley, Ovalene Foley, Lorene Foley, Ernest Foley, Lona K. Sullivan, Olma B. Polston and Carrie Pennington. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 15, 2003 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Eugene Kimble and Bro. Cleveland Johnson officiating.
Special music was provided by Steve and Juanita Foley. Interment was in the Clear Springs Cemetery. He was an owner of Russell County Salvage for 25 years and a member of the Woodlawn Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. Survivors include his wife, Edith Fox, Russell Springs, KY; one daughter, Freda (Lance) Duffy, Russell Springs, Ky; two step children, Arnold Ray (Geraldene) Fletcher, and Elizabeth (Arnold) Holtzclaw, both of Russell Springs, KY; one brother, Joe Fox, Louisville, KY; one sister, Ruth Campisano, Louisville, KY; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was the widow of Luther Fox and a retired storeowner and a long-time employee of Dr. Leslie Richardson and a member of the Russell Springs First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Hines, Jamestown, KY; two brothers, Arlus “Red” Bernard, Russell Springs, KY and R.J. Bernard, Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Ovalene Foley, Russell Springs, KY; a granddaughter, Billie Sue Hankla, Louisville, KY; and one great granddaughter, Melody Suzanne Hankla; and a special friend, Blanche Flanagan, also survives. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in the chapel of the Rippetoe Funeral Home with Bro. Stan Milby officiating. Interment was in the Russell Springs Cemetery. He was the son of Earl Fox and the late Ruby Carol Brumley Fox. Survivors include two daughters, Brandi and Megan Fox, both of Shepherdsville, KY; his father, Earl Fox, Shepherdsville, KY; and one brother, Stephen (Paula) Fox, Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by a sister, Johnna Carol Fox; his paternal grandparents, Amos and Letha Fox; his maternal grandparents, Elisha and Clara Weston.
