Ben L. Salter, 85, departed this life on Saturday, January 31, 2009 in Rosepine, LA.
Visitation will begin on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana, and will continue on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 10:00 am until the time of service at 2:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Survivors include: son: Mike Salter; sister: Peggy Green; nieces: Kathy Anderson; Carol Moore; Debbie Pate; Terry Jopling; Farrah Reyna; Tori Hernandez; nephews: Bobby Salter; Roger Salter; Randall Green; Tim Hughes; Josh Moore and Jesse Moore; 1 grandchild; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Salter was preceded in death by his parents: Lela and Thomas “Boug” Salter; spouse: Genny Salter; 2 infant daughters and 1 infant son.

Arlene V. Havens

Arlene V. Havens, 81, passed from this life on January 30, 2009 at her residence in Singer, Louisiana.
Visitation will begin on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana, from 4 PM until 10 PM. Visitation will continue on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 10 AM until 2 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 2 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana, and will be officiated by Dr. Clint Hines.
Burial will follow at Havens Cemetery in Singer, Louisiana.
Mrs. Havens is survived by the following; husband: Joe Havens of Singer, Louisiana; son: Marshall Havens and wife, Connie of Singer, Louisiana; daughters: Janice Wilson and husband, Bob of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jo Ann Dumas and husband, Terry of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Patty Anderson and husband, Boyd of Dublin, Georgia, Beverly Joy and husband, Jim of Vernal, Utah, Cynthia Heard and husband, Butch of Singer, Louisiana, and Linda Cooley and husband, Shannon of Singer, Louisiana; brother: Ralph Rider of Tacoma, Washington; sisters: Dorothy DeWeber of Issaquah, Washington, and Carol Lakey of Ava, Missouri; as well as 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: father: Herman Emmett Rider and mother: Elsie Emily Robertson.

Clifford H. Pruitt, Sr.

Funeral services for Clifford H. Pruitt, Sr., 84, will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Grace Church located at 1021 W 1st Street in DeRidder, Louisiana, with Pastors George Glass, Jr., George Lee Glass, and James Glass officiating.
Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana, under the direction of Myers Colonial Funeral Home.
Mr. Pruitt passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, Louisiana, after a long illness.
Clifford, Sr. was born in Fowl, Louisiana, and lived in DeRidder, for most of his life.
He worked at Shirley Chevrolet as Body Shop Foreman before becoming the successful business owner of Cliff’s Auto and Paint Shop.
He served time in the U.S. Navy and in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife: Nell Pruitt, one son: Clifford H. Pruitt, Jr. and wife, Debra, one daughter: Cindy Leger and husband, Gurvis, four grandchildren: Luke Leger, Linzay Leger, Jordan Pruitt, and Haley Pruitt, one sister: Wanda Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his father: Willie Pruitt, mother: Beatrice Pruitt, brother: Harold Pruitt, and sister: Willie Mae Potter.
Visitation will be from 4 PM until 9 PM on Friday, January 30, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana.

Gary Dale McDaniel

Gary Dale McDaniel, 57, of Dallas, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 at his residence.
A memorial service was held, privately with the family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis McDaniel.
He is survived by his mother, Rachel Perkins Driver, and step-father, Clayton Driver of DeRidder; four sisters, Blanche Driver and husband, David Honea of DeRidder, Marietta Gillum of Kentucky, June Sweet and husband, Mark of Robeline, and Renee Tanner and husband, Lawrence of Texas; one brother, Clay Driver of Texas.

Linda Gae Longoria

Linda Gae Longoria, 60, passed from this life on Friday, January 23, 2009 at M.D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
Visitation will begin on Sunday, January 25, 2009 from 4 PM until 10 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home and will continue on Monday, January 26, 2009 at First Baptist Church, DeRidder, from 9 AM until 2 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2009 at First Baptist Church of DeRidder, at 2:00 PM.
It will be officiated by Rev. Wayne Squyres and Rev. Bill Robertson.
Burial will follow at Newlin Cemetery in Singer, Louisiana.
Survivors include the following: husband: Lyndon Longoria of DeRidder, Louisiana; son: William R. Smith, II and wife, Susan of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter: Kelly Benoit and husband, Chris of DeRidder, Louisiana; mother: Norma Slaydon of DeRidder, Louisiana; brother: Les Slaydon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; eight grandchildren: Nathan Smith, Joshua Smith, David Smith, Joanna Smith, Caleb Smith and Sophia Smith all of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kelsea Benoit and Hunter Benoit of DeRidder, Louisiana; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: father: Marvin Slaydon; twin brother: Bryan Slaydon.
Mrs. Longoria was born and raised in DeRidder, Louisiana.
She retired from Boise, as an Engineer Project Coordinator.
In 1966, she graduated from DeRidder High School and went on the attend Northwestern State University.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Merryville.

James L. Alexander

James L. "Mr. A" or "Bud" Alexander, 66, of DeRidder, LA, died January 22, 2009 in his home after an extended battle with cancer.
Mr. Alexander was born on October 22, 1942 in Monroe, LA.
He was the eldest son of the late James R. and Mildred Alexander.
Mr. Alexander attended public schools in Calcasieu Parish, before obtaining his Bachelor of Divinity from Arlington Baptist Seminary in May 1973.
Immediately following his graduation, Bro. Alexander accepted the call of the Lord to begin a mission in Slaughter, LA.
The Mission started with eleven members in a rented house in Slaughter.
In June, the "Mission in Slaughter" was organized into a church and adopted the name Grace Baptist Church.
After continued growth, the church, with 63 members, outgrew the house and moved to a rented theater in Zachary, LA.
A new church facility was completed in 1976.
Bro. Alexander remained at Grace Baptist Church until 1977.
From 1987 until the present, Mr. Alexander lived in the DeRidder Area.
He was Associate Pastor and Principal of Beckwith Baptist Christian School.
He owned and operated Lorenze Fine Furniture.
Mr. Alexander was the News Director of KVVP radio Station. "Life@Home" designated James Alexander as its Senior Citizen of the Year in 2006.
Mr. Alexander is survived by two daughters, Dawnia Craft and Kimberly Riddle of California, two step-sons, Shane Richardson of Bridge City, Texas, and Steve Richardson of Starks, Louisiana, one brother, Waymon Alexander of Iowa, Louisiana, one sister, Gwen Phelps of Georgia, as well as seven biological grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews.
Mr. Alexander also leaves behind many friends, including his special friend, Jonathan Perkins, for whom he was a part-time caregiver.

Joy Manning Boggs

Joy Manning Boggs, 91, of Sugartown, Louisiana, passed away at a DeRidder Care Facility on January 17, 2009.
She was born in Thomas, OK, in 1917 and moved to the DeRidder area with her family in 1926.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Frank Boggs of Sugartown, one son, Frank Boggs, Jr. and wife, Lynne, also of Sugartown, one sister, Enid Manning Rideout of Temple, TX, and two grandchildren, David and Laura Boggs, both students at LSU in Baton Rouge.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
She was a homemaker for most of her life, but prior to and during WW II, was employed by West Brothers Department Stores and the DeRidder Army Air Base.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 4 PM until 8 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Visitation will continue on Monday, January 19, 2009 from 11 AM until the funeral service at 2:00 PM.

Dora Alston

Dora Alston, 85, passed from this life on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Rosepine Retirement and Rehab in Rosepine, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA, on Friday, January 16, 2009 from 4PM until 9PM and will continue on Saturday, January 17, 2009 from 10AM until 2PM.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana, on Saturday, January 17, 2009 and will be officiated by Rev. George Glass, Jr., Rev. George Lee Glass.
Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Survivors include the following; son: James Melton Alston and wife, Grace Marie of Jasper, Texas; daughter: Brenda Jeans and husband, David of DeRidder, Louisiana; brother: Johnny Manino of Junction Community, Louisiana; sisters: Rose Russell of DeRidder, Louisiana, Merline Williams of Merryville, Louisiana, and Evelyn Vawter of Louisa, Virginia; as well as three grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and twenty-three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband: Alva Alston.

Brenda Marie St. Romain-Stevenson

Brenda Marie St. Romain-Stevenson was born May 26, 1957 at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, Louisiana, to the union of the late George St. Romain, Sr. and Mary M. St. Romain.
She was the seventh of seven children.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Her sunset came January 10, 2009 at Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville, Louisiana.
Brenda graduated from DeRidder High School.
Attended Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, and Grambling State University, Grambling, Louisiana, a half-year each.
Brenda worked for CUBIC Defense Applications Group, doing character portrayal (Role-Play) from January, 2004 to August, 2009, at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Prior to this, she worked as substitute teacher for the Beauregard Parish School System, and many years as sales associate/supervisor and customer service/supervisor for AAFES (Main Exchange) at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
She was also employed by Price Lo Food, Harry O’s Restaurant/Lounge, Audrey’s Ebony & Ivory Beauty Salon.
Brenda leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter: Katrice Stevenson, one granddaughter: Tatyana Harris, and one grandson: Jai Shoin Stevenson all of Wylie, Texas; her mother, Mary M. St. Romain of DeRidder, LA; siblings, Audrey M. Harris (Curtis) of Fort Polk, LA; George St. Romain, Jr. (Cynthia) of DeRidder, LA; Norvell St. Romain of Fort Worth, TX; Debbie Smith (Charles) of DeRidder, LA; Cleo St. Romain (Patricia) of DeRidder, LA; Cynthia St. Romain-Colvin of DeRidder, LA; as well as a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Emma Baggett

Emma Coleman Baggett passed from this life on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Visitation will begin on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Memorial Baptist Church of Longville, Louisiana.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 12, 2009 in Memorial Baptist Church of Longville, Louisiana.
Burial will be in Barentine Cemetery of Longville, Louisiana.
Ms. Baggett is survived by 3 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Riley Baggett and her son, Vernon Baggett.

Tomothy Nash, Jr.

Timothy Nash, Jr., 55, of Rosepine, passed away Friday, January 09, 2009 at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Visitation will begin on Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 3:00 until 10:00 PM and will continue on Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 12:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Burial will be at Miller Cemetery in Cottonwood Community.
Rev. George Lee Glass, Rev. George Glass, Jr., and Rev. Keith Smith will officiate.
Survivors include the following: father: Timothy Nash, Sr. of Rosepine, LA; sisters: Katherine Martinez of DeRidder, LA, and spouse, Carl, Terry Johnson of Cravens, and spouse, Lealon, Debra Morris of Garland, Texas, and spouse, Jim, Cindy McNicholas of Austin, Texas, and spouse, Jeff, Jennifer Hinkel of Rosepine, and spouse, Wesley, and Daphne Smith of Winnfield, LA, and spouse, Keith.
He is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews.
Timothy was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ruth Nash.
Timothy lived in the Rosepine area all his life.
He attended Grace Church of DeRidder.
He was employed as a carpenter.
He was known as “June Bug” and was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews.

Dovie Hickman Nichols

Our precious mother and wife, Dovie Hickman Nichols, 80, passed from this life on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at her home in Merryville.
Born in 1928 to one of the pioneer families of Beauregard Parish, she was a homemaker and lifelong resident of the Junction Community.
She was a member of the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church.
A loving mother and devoted wife, “Grandmother,” as she was so fondly called, will be remembered for her skills and talents in the kitchen. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends – most often with ingredients from her own garden.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Edwin L. Nichols; three children – Ronnie Nichols of Merryville, Debbie Nichols Clanton and husband, Michael of DeRidder, and Pete Nichols and wife, Cathy of Elkins, Arkansas; six grandchildren – Jolyn Martinez, Michael and Duncan Clanton, Amanda Byrum, Jessica and P.J. Nichols; one great-grandchild, Colby Martinez and one sister, Lubbie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Lular Hickman, six brothers and three sisters.
The funeral will be Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 2:00 PM, Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church at Junction community, under the direction of Myers Colonial Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Cooper Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 5, 2009 from 5 PM until 9 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana, and will continue at 10 AM until time of service on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in Junction Community.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church.

Wanda "Janelle" Stephens

Wanda "Janelle" Stephens, 55, departed this life on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at her residence in Rosepine, Louisiana.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Christway Church in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Burial will be in Miller Cemetery of Cottonwood.
Survivors include the following: sons: Henry and Summer Stephens of Rosepine, Louisiana, and Timothy Stephens of Rosepine, Louisiana; daughters: Tammy Stephens of DeRidder, Louisiana, and Lola and John Earl Jackson of Rosepine, Louisiana; mother: Jewell Husbands of Kirbyville, Texas; brothers: Doug and Eloise Jeter of Crosby, Texas, Wayne and Gail Jeter of Katy, Texas, and Ray and Connie Jeter of Fred, Texas; sisters: Dale and John Zadrapa of Crosby, Texas, and Sharon Kay Jeter of Kirbyville, Texas, and twelve grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: husband: Henry L. Stephens and sister: Charlene Stephens.
