Benjamin Eugene Ashworth was born July 19, 1981 and passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2009.
Benjamin worked as a Scaffold Builder and was a member of Oretta Pentecostal Church. Benjamin is survived by son: Talon Flynn Ashworth; Fiancee: Brooke Blackburn of DeQuincy; Parents: Samuel & Rose Ashworth of Singer, LA; Brothers: Byron “BG” & Carolyn Marler of Singer, LA and Brandon Ashworth of Singer, LA; Nephew: Kade Marler of Singer, LA; Niece: Bethany Marler of Singer, LA; Maternal Grandparents: Keith and Edith Coffin of Rosepine, LA and a Host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends. Benjamin was preceded in death by Grandparents: Homer & Zelma “Cricket” Ashworth, and Lester Harper.

Mrs. Neva Lee Burgess 70, of Singer, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2009 in DeRidder, LA. Mrs. Burgess was born in Singer, LA, on March 7, 1938. She was a member of Smokey Cove Pentecostal Church in Singer. She was a retired School Bus Driver. Mrs. Burgess is survived by Sons: Winston Burgess and wife Sherry of Singer, Jimmy Wayne Burgess and wife Ethyl of DeQuincy, and Marshall “Toad” Burgess and wife Polly of Singer, and Ronnie Burgess of Point Blank, TX. Nine Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by: Husband: Randall “Bob” Burgess; Father: Maxie Carter; Mother: Opal Buxton Carter; and Beloved Aunt: Frances Burgess. Visitation will be held at Singer United Pentecostal Church in Singer on Saturday, February 14, 2009 from 5 PM until 9 PM and again on Sunday, February 15, 2009 from 10 AM until time of service. Eugene Basil Johnson
Mr. Eugene Basil Johnson, 79, of Merryville, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at his residence.
A native of Troup, Texas, Mr. Johnson had lived in Merryville, for three years, formerly of Silsbee, Texas. He was a Korean War Veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Johnson retired from BNSF Railway in Silsbee, with 34 years of service. He was a member of the Silsbee Kiwanis Club for several years. Mr. Johnson enjoyed outdoor activities and loved to travel. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darlene Quave Johnson, of Merryville; three sons, Jerry Keith Johnson of Merryville, Kevin Wayne Johnson of Houston, Texas, and Kyle Eugene Johnson of Port Arthur, Texas; three daughters, Patti Lynn Bearden of Hurst, Texas, Kathy Jean Johnson of Lake Charles, and Cheryl Cavazos (Clay) of Keller, Texas; two brothers, Joe E. Moore (Joyce) of Meridian, MS, and Leslie Moore (Alicia) of McGehee, Arkansas; one sister, Virginia Sellers (Roger) of McGehee, Arkansas; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Johnson of Houston, Texas, and Hattie Mae Moore of McGehee, Arkansas; one brother, Winston Carnell Johnson of St. Petersburg, Florida.
Visitation will be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, on Friday, February 13, 2009 from 4 PM until 7 PM. His funeral will also be held at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 10 AM with Brother T.J. Bordelon officiating. Marie C. Meadows
Funeral services for Marie Cole Meadows, 92, of Merryville, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Rev. Wayne Squyres will officiate. Burial will be in the Merryville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 5 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Meadows went to be with her Lord on February 1, 2009 at the Merryville Nursing Center. She was a native of Merryville, and had lived there all of her life. In 1932 she graduated from Merryville High School. Then, she attended Louisiana State Normal College (now Northwestern State University) and became a teacher. When she retired in 1976, she had taught second grade in the Beauregard Parish School system for 42 years. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. Also, she was a member of the Beauregard Parish Retired Teachers Association, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, and Kappa Kappa Iota, an honorary sorority of educators. She was a life member of the Priscilla Chapter #58 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Other organizations that she was active in, and a charter member of, were the Merryville Cemetery Association, the Merryville Historical Society, and the Merryville High School Alumni Association. She loved her family and friends and took great pride in her former students. Teaching and Merryville High School were her life. She enjoyed working in her yard and growing flowers, doing counted cross-stitch and other needlework, reading, and visiting her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emmett A. Meadows, her parents, Erastus Cole and Tressie Kearney Cole, and seven older brothers and sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Meadows Greene and husband, Jim of Indianapolis, Indiana; two grandsons, Mike Greene and wife, Kelly of Greenwood, Indiana and Tom Greene and wife, Liqun of Westminster, Colorado; and five great-grandchildren, Alex, Danielle, Nick, lan, and Eli Greene. She also has ten surviving nieces and nephews and numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mike Greene, Tom Greene, Alex Greene, Tom Dixon, David Eaves, Bruce Havens, Dennis (Roonie) Powell, and Mance Stark. Honorary pallbearers are Ron Nance and Larry Karr. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Merryville Nursing Center for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Meadows during her stay there. We are most grateful to our dear friends - Ellen Terrell, Linda Jeans, Alice Molbert, Sylvia Doyle, and Shirley Cooper - who have lovingly cared for Mother recently and over the past years.
