Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana, at 11 AM with Bro. Alvin Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana. Mr. Brazzle retired from the United States Army after 30 years of service. Survivors include the following; Wife: Gladys Jean Brazzle of DeRidder, LA; Sons: Paul J. Elam of DeRidder, LA, Johnny L. Brazzle of DeRidder, LA, Grant E. Brazzle of DeRidder, LA, and William Brazzle, Jr. of DeRidder, LA; Daughters: Gloria D. Owens of DeRidder, LA, and Clotel E. Brazzle of DeRidder, LA; as well as 17 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Dorothy Ann Schiro, 78, of Merryville, Louisiana, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Dubuis Hospital of Lake Charles in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA from 5 PM until 9 PM, and will continue on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 10 AM until 1 PM. Rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home at 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeRidder, Louisiana at 2:15 PM with Father Jude Brunnert, M.S. officiating. Burial will follow at Merryville Cemetery in Merryville, Louisiana. Mrs. Schiro was the High School Secretary at Merryville High School for 24 years from 1972 – 1996. She was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Garden Club, the Book Club and the Legion of Mary. Survivors include the following; Daughter: Donna Schiro of Merryville, Louisiana; Sons: Greg Schiro of Merryville, Louisiana, Jamie Schiro and wife Jamie of Westlake, Louisiana, and Phil Schiro and wife Susan of Merryville, Louisiana; Nine Grandchildren and Two Great Grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: Husband: A. C. “Coach” Schiro.

Hershel M. Harper, Sr., 67, passed from this life on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, Louisiana. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Texas Avenue Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA at 2 PM with Dr. Randy Harper and Dr. Arthur Rockett officiating. Burial will follow at Cannon Cemetery in Merryville, Louisiana. Mr. Harper retired from Boise Cascade after 30 years of service. He was a deacon and a member of the Texas Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include the following; Wife: Brenda Harper of DeRidder, LA; Son: Hershel M. Harper, Jr. of Columbia, SC; Daughter: Melissa S. Harper Lee of Vine Grove, KY; Mother: Eunice Lanier Harper of Kipling, LA; Brothers: Fred Harper of Bossier City, LA and Bruce Harper of DeRidder, LA; Sisters: Ernie M. Tyler of Groves, TX and Wanda Davis of Hicks, LA; and Grandson: Nathan Thomas Lee of Vine Grove, KY. He was preceded in death by: Father: Lum C. Harper

Buddy Eaves, 90, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2009 in DeRidder, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Monday, March 23, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder and 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at New Life Baptist Church in DeRidder.
Officiants will be Pastor Jesse McMillan, Elder Lynwood Jacobs, Elder Bobbie Leach and Bro. Lynn Clayton.
Burial will immediately follow funeral services and be held at Cannon Cemetery in Merryville, LA
Mr. Eaves is survived by 2 Daughters: Janet & Dr. Bobby Leach of Denham Springs, LA and June & Dr. John McMillan of DeRidder, LA; 1 Sister: Helen Eaves Hickman of DeRidder, LA; 2 Sisters – In – Law: Isabelle M. Eaves and Minnie W. Eaves; 5 Grandchildren: William D. Leach and wife Dr. Lauren Leach; Dr. Timothy Dale Leach and wife Erin Leach; Katy Leach Ramsey and husband Brad Ramsey; Kristen Leach Slate and husband Matt Slate and Jesse Eaves McMillan and wife Ashley McMillan and 4 Great-Grandchildren: Micah McMillan, Ethan McMillan, Abram McMillan and Cooper Slate.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Eaves was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Frances H. Eaves; one grandson Joshua Eric McMillan; 3 brothers, James L. Eaves, Louis W. Eaves and Huey E. Eaves and 2 sisters, Inez Eaves Turner and Selma Eaves Craft.

She retired after 52 years as a Registered Nurse and for the last 21 years of her work, she was the Night Supervisor at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, Louisiana. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in DeRidder, Louisiana. Survivors include the following; Daughters: Pamela L. Wiegel and husband Richard of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Andrea A. Ferguson of DeRidder, Louisiana; Grandchildren: John Sinclair Ferguson of DeRidder, Louisiana, Heather Lynn Kaver and husband Gjamale of Fort Polk, Louisiana, Paul Andrew Dietrich and wife Tricia of Mcloud, Oklahoma, Jeffery Joe Wiegel of Elgin, Illinois, Jennifer Joy Sosnowski and husband David of Aurora, Illinois, and Jeremy John Wiegel and wife Christine of Waukegan, Illinois; 10 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by; Father: George Sinclair; Mother: Olive Waring Sinclair; Husband: Raymond Andrew Ferguson; Grandson: Matthew Sinclair Dietrich; Brother: George R. Sinclair.

Burial will follow at Rosepine Cemetery in Rosepine, Louisiana. Survivors include the following; Husband: Garsie James of Rosepine, Louisiana; Daughter: Shonda James Thomas and husband, Steve A. Thomas of Rosepine, Louisiana; Grandson: James A. Thomas and wife, Ashleigh G. Thomas of Pineville, Louisiana; and Granddaughter: Amber W. Thomas of Pineville, Louisiana.

Debra Burgess, 54, passed from this life on Thursday, March 12, 2009 in Singer, Louisiana. She is survived by the following; Husband: Larry Burgess of Singer, Louisiana; Sons: John Rankin, Danny Rankin, and Shane Rankin all of Bloomington, IL; Sisters: Dee Anna Taylor of Panama City, FL, and Five Grandchildren.

Nickel of Hayesville, Kansas, and James Nickel of Kansas; Sisters: Marie Davis of Brownwood, Texas, and Susan Jones of Merryville, Louisiana, as well as several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by Father: Charles Nickel; Brother: Ralph Nickel; Grandmother: Maggie Lawrence and Stepfather: Charlie G. Newman.

Yvonne "Green Eyes" Slaydon, 55, passed from this life on Thursday, March 12, 2009 in DeRidder, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Newlin Cemetery in Singer, Louisiana.
Devoted wife, mother and grandmother. For the last 23 years, she was a truck driver, driving across the USA. She is survived by the following; Husband: Robert Slaydon of DeRidder, Louisiana; Mother: Sheridan Ann Wilson of Longville, Louisiana; Son: Brian and Bonnie Young of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Daughters: Chasity Radig of Rosepine, Louisiana, and Rhonda and Jeff Hanchey of Ragley, Louisiana; Brothers: Douglas Jackson of Longville, Louisiana, and Jerry Wayne Jackson of Houston, Texas; Sisters: Kelly Dodd of Jopling, Missouri, and Robbie Asworth of Dewyville, Texas; Special Uncle: Gary Wilson and Aunt Helen “Sugarfoot” upon whom she thought the sun rose and set; 10 Grandchildren. She was preceded in Death by: Father: Charles Edward Wilder, Sr. Brother: Charles Edward Wilder, Jr. Stepson: Mason Earl Slaydon

Carl Wade Crain

Carl Wade Crain was born on June 7, 1949, and passed away after a brief illness at the age of 59 on March 11, 2009, at North Cypress Medical Center near Houston Texas.
A native of Merryville, LA, Carl lived in Newton, TX, for the past 10 years. Following graduation from Merryville High School in 1967, he served two tours in Viet Nam with the U.S. Army. Carl spent many years working in Alaska, and other states as a member of the IBEW.
Carl is survived by his daughter, Kay Huff and son-in-law, James of Newton, TX; and son, Carl W. “Bubba” Crain, II of Minden, TX; four brothers, Roe Crain of Westlake, LA, Jim Crain of Sulphur, LA, Joe Crain of Onalaska, TX, and Dale Crain of Cypress, TX; three sisters, Clara Loftin of Port Neches, TX, Ester Jeans of Orange, TX, and Kay Fontenot of Lafayette, LA; four grandchildren, Ryan, Brendon, Tyeler, and Dylan of Call, TX; and 25 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Lucille Neely Crain of Merryville, LA, and one sister, Barbara Jarrell of Merryville, LA. He also leaves behind many caring friends and relatives.
Beneath that gruff exterior beat a heart of gold, and Carl Crain was a man of few words. Memorial Services will be held at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA, on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2 PM with Bro. David Zeigler officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Society.

Survivors include the following; Son: John and Elaine Harper of Jasper, Texas; Daughter: Julynda Jackson of DeRidder, Louisiana; Sisters: Barbara Bickham of DeRidder, Louisiana, and Ina Johnson of DeRidder, Louisiana; Two Grandchildren: Kai Jackson of DeRidder, Louisiana, and Jonathan Davis of DeRidder, Louisiana, and Special Friend: Patsy Davis of DeRidder, Louisiana.
