William Darrell Bailey, 35, of Rosepine, Louisiana, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 28, 2009 in DeRidder, La.
William was born in DeRidder, Louisiana on November 22, 1973 to Melvin and Joyce Bailey. He was a graduate of Rosepine High School. William was employed as a lineman with Cleco. He was an avid outdoorsmen and family man who loved watching his son George play sports, especially football. He also loved spoiling his daughter, Brittany. William, we will miss you and you will always be in our hearts.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 3:00 PM -9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am at the Rosepine High School Gymnasium in Rosepine, Louisiana, with the Rev. Arlen Smith officiating. Burial will be in Marlow Cemetery in Pitkin, Louisiana.
William is survived by: Father: Melvin Bailey and spouse, Terrell of DeRidder, Louisiana; Mother: Joyce Bailey of DeRidder, Louisiana; Wife: Robin Lynn Bailey of Rosepine, Louisiana; Son: George Bailey of Rosepine, Louisiana; Daughter: Brittany Bailey of Rosepine, Louisiana; Step-Brother: Blake Campbell of DeRidder, Louisiana; Sisters: Brooke Bailey of DeRidder, Louisiana; Cheyenne Bailey of Alabama; Crystal Bailey of Alabama: Step-Sister: Amber Barrett of Dry Creek, Louisiana; Niece: Bailey Miller of DeRidder, Louisiana; Nephew: Koltyn Barrett of Dry Creek, Louisiana.
William was preceded in death by his brother: George Edward Bailey.

John M. Vercher, 63, passed from this life on Sunday, July 26, 2009 in Bon Weir, Texas. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 from 1 PM until 9 PM at the First United Pentecostal Church of Merryville in Merryville, Louisiana and will continue on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 from 9 AM until time of service. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the First United Pentecostal Church of Merryville at 2 o’clock PM with Rev. Thomas Peavy and Rev. James Hamilton officiating. Burial will be held at Cannon Cemetery in Merryville, Louisiana. Mr. Vercher is survived by the following; daughter: Charlotte Vercher of Bon Weir, Texas; sisters: Earlene Pittman of Swannanoa, North Carolina and Shirley Benoit of Merryville, Louisiana; as well at four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Anita Rene'e Johnson Richardson, 39, departed this life on Saturday, July 25, 2009 in DeRidder, La.
Anita was born in Jasper, Texas on February 4, 1970. She was a graduate of DeRidder High School in DeRidder, La. She spent her entire life helping others with special needs. She will be missed by her many friends and family.
Visitation will begin on July 26, 2009 at Three Pine Pentecostal Church of DeRidder, Louisiana beginning at 2:00 PM until the time of service on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 10:00 am with the Revs. Dan Booth and Roger Herrington officiating. Burial will be at Frisby Cemetery in Jasper, Texas.

Ollie Henry Perry
The Shepherd has called home another member of His flock. Ollie Henry Perry, 94, has peacefully left this world for everlasting life on Wednesday, July 22, 2009.
Ms. Ollie is survived by one son: Donald Ray Perry and spouse, Sue of Merryville, LA; 2 grandchildren: Donnette Sue Perry Judd and husband, Chad of Cleveland, Texas; Patsy Vaness Perry Carr and husband, Robin of Merryville, LA; 3 great-grandchildren: Amanda “Carr” Speight and husband, David of Merryville, La; Adrean “Carr” Galloway and husband, Paul of Merryville, La and Garrett Judd of Cleveland, Texas; 7 great-great-grandchildren: Skylar; Mallory; McKenna; Jackson; Brook; Britney and Brandy. Also she is survived by many relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband: Emmett T. Perry.
She was a member of Merryville First Baptist Church for 83 years.

Velma Mae Kennedy Rashall, 93, of Coppers Cove, Texas, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. She was born on March 1, 1916. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 10 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ford Cemetery in Bon Weir, Texas. Her pallbearers will be son-in-law: Jimmy Drawdy; grandsons: Rick Rashall and Marty Rashall; great-grandsons: R.J. Rashall and Justin Rashall; and friend: Paul F. Thames. She was survived by the following: daughter: Brenda Drawdy and husband, Jimmy of Kempner, TX; granddaughter: Tiffany Thames Ward of Killeen, TX; great-grandson: Aidan Collis Ward of Killeen, TX; sons: C. L. Rashall, Jr. and wife Diane of San Antonio, TX, Willie Richard Rashall and wife, Peggy of Orange, TX, and Earnie Ray Rashall and wife, Connie of Eunice, LA, as well as fourteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: husband: Collis L. Sylvia Harper Smith
Sylvia Harper Smith departed this life on Monday, July 13, 2009 surrounded by her family at The Guardian in Lake Charles, Louisiana, after an off and on battle with cancer. She fought a tough battle; the cancer and then two major back surgeries, 6 days apart. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Sylvia graduated from Sugartown High School. She worked for West Brothers General Office many years as Executive Secretary. Later, Sylvia worked many years for Beauregard Electric Cooperative and retired there. Then, she devoted more time to family and friends. Through the years, she also did volunteer work for various organizations.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 and will continue on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from 9:00 am until the time of service at 10:00 am at Myers Colonial Funeral Home of DeRidder, Louisiana. Burial will be at Cooper Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana. Rev. Wayne Kite, Rev. Jim Miers and Rev. Jimmy McDonald will officiate.
Sylvia is survived by her Husband, Herbert Smith of DeRidder, LA; Son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Lisa Smith of Lake Charles, LA; Granddaughter, Sophia Elisabeth Smith of Lake Charles, LA; Brother, A. L. Harper of Woodville, Texas; Sister, Marie England of DeRidder, LA; Sister-in-law, Billie Harper of DeRidder, LA, and many special friends.
She was preceded in death her parents, Albert and Ina Harper; Brother, James A. Harper and Nephew, Lance Harper.
Jessie Nelson
Jessie Nelson, 85, passed from this life on July 10, 2009 at his residence. Born September 10, 1923, he was a native of Singer, LA. He remained a resident for most of his life, except while he served proudly in the Army Air Corp during World War II in the South Pacific. During his younger years, he worked in the forestry industry, hauling stumps to the Newport Plant in DeQuincy. He graduated from DeQuincy Trade School as a furniture maker and upholsterer. Later, he retired from the Beauregard Parish School Board. For a number of years, he worked offshore in the oil industry and for the Beauregard Parish Maintenance Road Crew. He was an avid LSU and New Orleans Saints fan and the Singer Hornets number one fan. Jessie was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Never meeting a stranger, he was a loyal friend to everyone that he came in contact with. He was always a practical joker; he loved people and enjoyed making them laugh. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was the proud father of one son: Joe Nelson and wife Carolyn of DeQuincy, LA; and three daughters: Alma “Rusty” Matthis of Singer, LA, Freddy Nelson of Huntington, TX, and Rita Hays and husband, Jim of Warren, TX. He had fourteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. He has one living sister: Billie Perkins of Beeville, TX. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and rarely missed a service. As an avid gardener, he loved supplying many friends and relatives with fresh farm vegetables every year, as long as his health allowed. He was preceded in death by his loving wife and companion of forty-seven years: Lillian Hyatt Nelson; his father: Wade Hampton Nelson; mother: Loudella Ashworth Nelson; and sixteen brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held at Good Hope Baptist Church in Singer, LA, on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 2 o’clock PM. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at 2 O’clock PM at Good Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. Ray Bourque and Rev. Jimmy Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery.
