Mrs. Knotts died Saturday, December 7, 2002 in Dubach, LA following a lengthy illness. She was Baptist. She was a member of the China Painters Guild and a member of the E.G.A.
Survivors include one son, Stanley King and wife Solange of Unionville, LA; one daughter, Madeline Cooper and husband Herschel of Dubach, LA; two granddaughters, Patricia King of Atlanta, GA and Julia King of Plano, TX; one brother, R. B. "Bush" Colvin of Vienna, LA; two nephews, David Colvin and Michael Colvin; three step-children, H. M. Knotts of Shreveport, LA, Helen Shrell of Ruston, LA and Ruth Dusan; and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Mr. Hightower died Saturday, December 7, 2002 in Ruston, LA following a brief illness.
Mr. Hightower was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Vienna and a member of the Ruston Masonic Lodge # 106. He was a retired Lincoln Parish Tax Assessor after serving 28 years. He was a Past President of the Louisiana Tax Assessor Association. Mr. Hightower was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Burns Hightower and by brother, J. T. Hightower.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Napper and husband Jim of Baton Rouge, LA; one son, Butch Hightower and wife Debbie of Ruston, LA; grandchildren, Hillary Napper Greer and husband Donald of Baton Rouge, LA, James H. Napper, III of Baton Rouge, LA, Heath Hightower and wife Lisa of Destin, FL and Seth Hightower of Ruston, LA; one great granddaughter, Caroline Greer; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Heath Hightower, Seth Hightower, James Napper, Donald Greer, John Denny and Cullen Clark.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buster Deloney, Jesse Rizer, and George Norris.

Services for Father Jerome Thelen, O.F.M., 64, of Ruston, LA will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2002 in the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father John Doctor, O.F.M. Provincial Minister with final commendation by Bishop William Friend.
Following the Funeral Mass will be a luncheon at St. Thomas Church.
Interment will follow at St. Paschal Catholic Cemetery in West Monroe at 2 p.m. Services are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.
Father Thelen died Friday, December 6, 2002 in Ruston, LA.
Father Jerry became a Franciscan on June 21, 1958, and was ordained a priest on January 9, 1966. Father Jerry was the Pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ruston, LA and Associate Director of Campus Ministry at Louisiana Tech University. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, active member of the Ruston Ministerial Alliance. Before coming to Ruston in 1993, he was a teacher and campus minister at Padua Franciscan High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
Survivors include one sister, Phillis Galarneau of New York City, NY; and one cousin, Rosemarie Gorski of Chicago, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at the church with a Vigil Service beginning at 7 p.m.

Mrs. White died Thursday, December 5, 2002 in Ruston, LA following a brief illness. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by her husband, William Lloyd White.

Leona Gallagher
Mrs. Leona Gallagher, age 82, died November 28, 2002, in Mableton, GA.
Mrs. Gallagher was born in Dodson, LA and lived in Ruston for several years in the late 30s and 40s. She was the widow of a retired 26-year Air Force veteran, and was herself a retired federal employee. She was an avid and knowledgeable gardener, and an accomplished crafts person, specializing in Brazilian embroidery, needlepoint, cross stitch and quilt making. She traveled extensively during her life, and lived a number of years in Germany after World War II.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Gallagher, originally from County Donegal, Ireland, her mother Lillie Belle Mayerle of Ruston, LA, and her granddaughter Katherine B. Marble of Mableton, Georgia.
She is survived by her children, Dickie and Jo Crump McGee of Houston, Texas,
Jim and Jerry Lou Gallagher of Ruston, LA, and Patty Ellen and Joe Burkhardt of Mableton, GA; grandchildren, Terri McGee Conlin, Lori McGee Pipkin, and Patrick McGee of Houston, TX, Jim Gallagher and Kelly Gallagher Thompson of Ruston, LA and Priscilla Marble of Mableton, GA; nine great grandchildren; and brother, Joe Mayerle of Bremerton, WA.

Ms. Reeves died Monday, December 2, 2002 in Pueblo, CO. She was a native of Lincoln Parish. She is preceded in death by her husband, J. W. "Red" Reeves.

Dr. Ramsaur died Thursday, December 5, 2002 in Ruston, LA following a brief illness.
Dr. Ramsaur was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School class. He was a retired teacher of Louisiana Tech University. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of WW II.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Loraine Ramsaur of Ruston; children, Jack Ramsaur and wife Sylvia of Germantown, TN, Leah Beth Ramsaur of Ruston, and James Ramsaur and wife Laura of Ruston; grandchildren, Angela Kerr and husband Nathan, Allison Ramsaur, Matthew Ramsaur, Melissa Ramsaur and John Ramsaur; one nephew and one niece.
Pallbearers will be Rob Lary, Paul Frazier, Bill Carter, Neal Walpole, Bruce Van Zandt, and David Hedgepeth.

Mary Emma Willis Estes
Mary Emma Willis Estes, 69, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on December 2, 2002 after a six year courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born to Nona and John Willis on November 19, 1933 in Ruston, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years, Kenneth Paul, and by her parents.
She is survived by her daughters, Ramona Maxwell and Tommy of Rose, OK, Randa Gilliam and Ray of Bellaire, TX, Becky Freebairn and Bruce of Delia, Alberta, Canada; and step-daughter, Gail Martin and David of Hensley, AR. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Peter, Paul and Charlotte Gilliam, Brandon and Kristin Easterwood, Conayn and Rebecca Freebairn and Justin Martin; and one great grandchild, Christopher Easterwood.
She was a great believer of education, graduating from Ruston's Easton High School after having three girls. She loved nature, camping, fishing, river boating and animals, especially dogs. Her favorite music was the flamenco guitar and bluegrass country music. She loved to travel and has been to many wonderful places in Western Canada, Mexico and the United States; these last few years joyously traveling with Ramona in her tractor truck. She had a great love for her family and loved to visit at family reunions. She always made friends easily. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. She spent many hours in volunteer work; previously in girl scouting and camping and was active in the PTA for her girls. In later years, she was active in Texarkana with the Mended Hearts Association. She was very giving and compassionate to her family, friends and neighbors. She loved gardening and her favorite hobby was canning.
Services will be held at Chapelwood Funeral Home at Chapelwood Cemetery located at 927 S. Kings Hwy (Hwy. 989), Nash, TX 75569.

Mr. Lee died Tuesday, December 3, 2002 in Ruston following a brief illness.
Mr. Lee was a lifelong resident of Lincoln Parish where he farmed throughout his entire life. He was an Army veteran that attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during W.W.II. Mr. Lee retired from the La. State Forestry Commission after 20 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Edgar and Nancy Lular Lee; brothers, Erdice, Leonard and Carl Lee, and a sister, Wanzie Rudolph.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Gloria Yvonne "Sunshine" Lee of Longstraw; one son, James E. Lee and wife Jena of Longstraw; daughters, Hannah Marie Lee and husband Travis Staggs, Pollie Ann Lee and Lular Lee, all of Longstraw; grandchildren, Tonya Crain, Sherry Flanagan, Steven and Angie Sanderson and Brandon Lee; great grandchildren, Michael Crump, Anthony Spence, Logan Vallery, Dylan Crain and Lacey Sanderson; and brothers, Prentice, Revis and Gasper Lee, all of Ruston, Narvis Lee of Shreveport, and Castle Lee of Hamilton, TX.

Mrs. Hardy was a native of Dubach, where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Dubach. She was also a member of the Les Amites Club. Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband Will Hardy, her father Colvin "Red" Norris and by her sister, Ann Williamson.
Survivors include one son, Craig Hardy and wife Diane of Bossier City, LA; her mother, Mae Norris of Dubach, LA; and one brother, Stephen Norris of Monroe, LA.

William R. "Skeet" Sherrill
Mr. William R. "Skeet" Sherrill of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2002 in the Mena Medical Center.
He was born May 28, 1934 in Mena, Arkansas, his age being 68 years, 6 months and 4 days.
Mr. Sherrill was the son of the late Brooks Howard Sherrill and the late Fannie McKenzie Sherrill. He was united in marriage to Peggy Hughes on December 20, 1956 in Ruston, Louisiana.
He lived in Mena since 1972, served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the Dallas Avenue Baptist Church, and was a carpenter and a chicken farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Sherrill of Mena, AR; two sons, Joe and wife Judy Sherrill of Plumerville, AR and Eric "Pistol" Sherrill of Mena, AR; one daughter, Mona and husband James Davis of Mena, AR; one brother, Curtis Sherrill of Ruston, LA; one sister, Nancy Moore of Ruston, LA; three grandchildren, Aaron Davis, Keith Davis and Brandi and husband Doug Holland; two great grandchildren, Paige and Cayddn Holland; five nieces and seven nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Sherrill was sent for cremation. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 3 in the Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dardenelle Townsley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hall Funeral Service, Mena, AR.
Dennis Eugene Pearson

Mr. Pearson passed away Saturday, November 30, 2002 at his residence.

Dr. Herbert Gustavas Warren
Memorial services for Dr. Herbert Gustavas Warren, age 72, of Whitehouse, TX will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at Green Acres Baptist Church in the Galilee Room with Dr. Darryle Dunks officiating.
Mr. Warren died November 28, 2002 in a local Tyler hospice facility.
He was born June 4, 1930 in Jonesboro, Louisiana to the late Elsie D. and Lola Warren. Herbert worked for various Oil companies and was a college professor and counselor at Louisiana Tech, Montana Tech, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. He retired from Texas A&M in 1995. In Montana he became involved in Montana Baptist Missions and churches supply-preaching in pastorless churches. He was co-founder and first president of Yellowstone Baptist College in Billings, Montana. He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church Celebration Choir and Gloryland Singers. Knowing Herbert, you knew Jesus was and is his personal friend.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy Campbell Warren of Whitehouse; daughters, Vicky Warren of Houston, Camille Styron of Martinez, Georgia; sister, Virginia Wilkinson of Ruston, LA; and one granddaughter, Jana Styron of Martinez, Georgia.
Dr. Warren was preceded in death by brother, Judson Warren and sister, LaNell Tyson. He will be missed greatly by his loving family and friends.

Ruth E. Pruitt
Ruth Edmonds Pruitt, 89, died Thursday, November 28, 2002 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC. A native of Whitney, she was the daughter of the late George and Ollie Thompson Edmonds and the wife of the late James Audra Pruitt. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosa Mae Smalley of Ruston, LA; and two grand-daughters, Rosemary Grimm and Kristy Riggs, all of Ruston, LA.

Kenneth Wade Eley
Services for Mr. Kenneth Wade Eley, 37, of Simsboro, LA will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Corinth Baptist Church in Hico, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Joe Youngblood and Earlene Bailey.
Interment will be in Corinth Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Ruston.
Mr. Eley died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Lincoln General Hospital. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and was a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Eley of Simsboro, LA; and two brothers, Jerry Eley of Simsboro and Tony Eley of Dubach, LA.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Wiltcher, Jeffrey Smith, Gary Puffer, Justin Flowers, Greg Cook and Chris Brazzel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Lee Brazzel and Randy Inman.
Visitation will begin Monday, November 25, 2002 at 3 p.m. until service time at the Corinth Baptist Church.
Jimmie Claire Pesnell Young
Services for Jimmie Claire Pesnell Young, 45, of Ruston, LA will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2002 in the Cook Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. David Newberry.
Interment will be in Douglas Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mrs. Young died Monday, November 18, 2002 in Shreveport, LA following a lengthy illness. She was a member of Cook Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Cary Young; two sons, Taylor Young and Logan Young; one brother, Clyde Pesnell; three sisters, Frances Baker, all of Ruston, Irene Perritt of Arcadia and Wanda Ledford of Choudrant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Steven Young, Michael Young, Dale Young, Phillip Burmaster, Phillip Johnson and Kip Franklin.
Memorials may be made to Cook Baptist Church or the Kidney Foundation.

Dr. Oliver Sanders Spencer
Dr. Oliver Sanders Spencer was born December 6, 1937 in Ruston, Louisiana. He was the oldest son of the late Don Spencer and Gena Wilhite Spencer of Clay, Louisiana. Dr. Spencer was a graduate of Ruston, Louisiana High School, received his B.S. and M. S. degrees in Physics from Louisiana Tech. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in 1968 where he distinguished himself by being awarded the Nielsen Prize for his outstanding research in solid state physics.
Dr. Spencer worked for IBM for some 30 years as a research physicist. Over this time, he authored and coauthored numerous papers and patented several innovations for the company. Most recently, he worked for Lockheed Martin and BAE doing the semiconductor processing work that he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Spencer of Manassas; his children, David Spencer of Manassas and Robert Spencer of Richmond; two grandsons and one granddaughter; his brothers, Dr. Donald Spencer of Monroe, Louisiana and Dr. James Spencer of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas, Virginia on Tuesday, November 19, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. when funeral services will begin at 8:00 p.m.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in his name.
James (Jim) Kennedy
Services for James (Jim) Kennedy, 76, of Ruston, LA will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2002 in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Kenneth Nutt.
Interment will be in Hebron Cemetery, Summerfield, LA, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mr. Kennedy died Monday, November 18, 2002 in Ruston following a lengthy illness due to a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Kennedy was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was retired from BellSouth Telephone Company with 35 years of service, member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He completed 18 years of service with Raychem Corporation. Mr. Kennedy served in the U. S. Navy and was a Veteran of WW II.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jean Hammons Kennedy of Ruston; one daughter, Marilyn Kennedy Bordelon and husband Curley of West Monroe; one son, Scott Kennedy and wife Tammy of Bossier City; grandchildren, C. J. Bordelon and Melissa Bordelon; and one brother, Billy Kennedy and wife Martha of Summerfield.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Humphries, Aubrey Gaston, Jim Richardson, Don Belton, Frank Walker, Joe Edmiston, Edroe Pesnell, Charles Many, Sonny Dukes, Tony McNeill, and Tom McNeal.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Alyce Jones
Services for Alyce Jones, 83, of Ruston, LA will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2002 in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Connie Nieto.
Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mrs. Jones died Sunday, November 17, 2002 in Ruston, LA following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Jones was a longtime resident of Ruston and member of Presbyterian Church of Ruston. She had worked as a secretary for T. L. James Company for many years before her retirement. She is preceded in death by her husband, O. E. Jones.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Lawrence and husband Andrew of Ruston, LA, Linda Cole and husband David of Baton Rouge, LA and Debra Clay and husband Tim of Houston, TX; two sisters, Florence Wilder of Austin, TX and Doris Williams of Ypsilanti, MI; grandchildren, Mark Lawrence of Dallas, TX, Matthew Lawrence and wife Kelley of Dallas, TX, Michael Lawrence of Ruston, LA, Tina Boyett and husband Todd of Pensacola, FL, Amy Silvey and husband Carlton of Houston, TX, Katie Clay of Fort Worth, TX and Kendall Clay of Houston, TX; and seven great grandchildren.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Ruston.
