Services for Mrs. Elvie C. Payton, 78, of Simsboro will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at Owens Memorial Chapel, Ruston. Officiating will be Mark Powell and Marty Payton. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Hilly under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Ruston. Mrs. Payton died Monday, October 14, 2002 at her residence in Simsboro, after a lengthy illness. She was raised in the Greenwood Community, was a member of the Choudrant Apostolic Church, and retired from Lincoln General Hospital. Mrs. Payton was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Payton, and a grandson, Richie. Survivors include two sons, Danny Payton and wife Helen of Ruston and Russell Payton of Marshall, TX; four daughters, Christine Gibson of Simsboro, Nell McGee and husband Ray of Minden, Patsy Wiltcher and husband Jerry of Simsboro and Nancy Chipmon and husband Billy of Ruston; one sister, Jessie Mae Alexander of Monroe; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Paul A. Davis
Services for Mr. Paul A. Davis, 84, of Choudrant, LA were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at Alabama Presbyterian Church, Sibley, with Rev. Tom Foley officiating. Burial was in the Sibley Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Ruston. Mr. Davis died Saturday, October 12, 2002 in Choudrant. He was employed by O'Neal Gas after his retirement as a Major in the U. S. Army and after serving as the Lincoln Parish Veteran's Service Officer. He was a member of the Retired Officer Association, the 13th Airborne Division Association, the VFW, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and was a member of the Alabama Presbyterian Church. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary V. "Ginny" Davis. Survivors include three sons, Mike Davis and wife Gwen Sexton of Choudrant, Jeff Davis and wife Jackie of Westminster, CO and Danny Davis of Ruston; four granddaughters, Corine, Lindsay, Emily and Lauren; one grandson, Jarod; four sisters, Marjorie Blake of West Monroe, Melba Krouskup of West Monroe, Martha Gaston of Choudrant and Mary Sue Chaffin of Ruston; one sister-in-law, Roxie Rogers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Honorary pallbearers were members of Battery F, 204 C.A.A.A.

Services for Lillie Mae Sims Logue, 81, of Simsboro, LA will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2002 in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Wilton Wall. Interment will be in Simsboro Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Logue died Saturday, October 12, 2002 in Homer, LA following a brief illness. Mrs. Logue was a member of Simsboro First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Logue, two brothers, Clark and Eugene Sims, and one sister, Lucille Sims Hammons. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Logue Jacobs and husband Billy J. of Simsboro, LA and Jean Logue Austin and husband Walter of Homer, LA; one sister, Mary Margaret Sims Guy of Waskom, TX; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Dana Jacobs Boockoff and husband Tony and their children Alexis and Jacob, Ragan Baker and wife Amy and their children, Britney, Cortney, Andrew, Justin, Austin and Brandon, Tyler Jacobs and wife Roxanne, Joan Baker Timberlake and her children Kylie, Alex and Matthew, and Lt. Matthew Baker; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Tony Boockoff, Eugene Guy, Max Hammons, Ronnie Hammons, Wayne Hammons and Sam Williams. Turner Hunt Lewis
Turner Hunt Lewis, a lifelong resident of this area, died on Sunday, October 13th. He was 84 years old. A native of Ruston, he was born August 3, 1918, a descendant of one of Ruston's pioneer families, his grandparents having moved here when the city was established in 1884. He attended the local public schools and Chamberlain Hunt Academy and graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in business. He was affiliated with the family business, Lewis and Company, for nearly 50 years. During World War II, he served his country with the Battery F 204th division of The National Guard. Recently he attended its 58th annual rollcall reunion, one of the 36 surviving members of the original 170 members. Mr. Lewis was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Trinity United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, William J. and Kaletah Moreland Lewis, and his three brothers, H. Moreland Lewis, W. Ardis Lewis, and William A. J. Lewis II. Surviving him are his nieces and nephews, William J. Lewis of Ruston, Dr. Elizabeth Lewis Thier of San Francisco, CA, Catherine Lewis Long of Fernandina Beach, FL, William A. J. Lewis III of Little Rock, AR, Richard N. Lewis of Ruston, and Mrs. N. Bunker Hunt of Dallas, TX. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 on Wednesday morning, October 16th, in Burkhalter Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverend Fred Wideman officiating. Mr Lewis will be buried in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Neil Lewis, Andrew Lewis, Holden Yates, Henry Roane, Ray Harris, and James Jones. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Trinity United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice. Interment follows at Fellowship Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Jarmon died Friday, October 11, 2002 in Bernice, LA following a brief illness. Mr. Jarmon was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Dubach and the Masonic Lodge in Dubach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Jarmon. Survivors include one daughter: Alma Harper and husband Eddie of Dubach, LA; one grandson: Chris Harper and wife Misty of Downsville, LA; seven nieces and two nephews. Services for Atha M. (Pigme) Dubose, 74, of Ruston, LA will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Officiating will be Brother Ashley Ambrose. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in Vernon, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Dubose died Sunday, April 6, 2003 in Ruston, LA following a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include one son, Oscar Horn and wife Harriet of Ruston, LA; two daughters, Kathy Phiffer and husband Lester of Kansas City, KS and Peney Rabon of Ruston, LA; one sister, Alize Robinson of Beaumont, TX; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Interment will be in Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Ruston, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Jenkins died Saturday, April 5, 2003 in Ruston, LA following a brief illness. He was a member and Deacon of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Ruston. Survivors include his wife, Dora Lee Jenkins; one son, Charles Regan Jenkins, both of Ruston, LA; four brothers, Charles E. Jenkins of Las Vegas, NV, Bobby Gene Jenkins of San Francisco, CA, Paul Jenkins of Los Angeles, CA and Woody G. Adelaide Elizabeth Murdock Hunt
Adelaide Elizabeth Murdock Hunt, a resident of Ruston, LA, died Monday, April 7, 2003 in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Hunt was born December 6, 1932 in Greenwood, MS. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School, received her Bachelor's Degree from Mississippi State College for Women and her Master's Degree from the University of Mississippi. She taught in Indianola and Biloxi, MS and for 14 years in the College of Home Economics at Louisiana Tech University. Mrs. Hunt was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women of the Church. She served on the Board of the Lincoln Parish Museum and was a former member of the Ruston Civic Symphony Board. She was a member of the Ruston Garden Club and The Junior Guild of Ruston. Mrs. Hunt was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Murdock, Sr. and Estelle Rippy Murdock and is survived by her husband Thomas Morgan Hunt of Ruston, LA; and a brother, Dr. William H. Murdock, Jr. of Gulfport, MS. Funeral services for Mrs. Hunt will be Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Ruston, LA. Visitation was Tuesday, April 8, 2003 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home in Ruston. Pallbearers are Alex T. Justin Allen Morris
Justin Allen Morris, born in Minden, Louisiana on October 2, 1981, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2003. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Minden, with Rev. Wayne DuBose officiating. Graveside services will follow at Gardens of Memories in Minden. Visitation will be held at Minden Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 9 from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday prior to the services. Justin died at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital In Memphis, Tennessee, where he had been hospitalized with leukemia since December 2002. He is survived by his parents, Frank C. and Jan Bullock Morris of Minden, and three siblings, Matt, Brad, and Kelsey. Grandparents include the late W. H. "Bill" Bullock and Louella "Dinah" Bullock of Monroe; the late E. C. "Pop" and Ruth Morris of Jena; step-grandparents, Wilma and Turner Sanders, also of Jena; aunts and uncles, Sandra Bullock, Karen Black and husband Dr. Charles Black, both of Shreveport; Bobbye and Junior Miller of Ormond Beach, Florida; Gwen Smith, Nell and Buddy Sanders, all of Jena; and numerous cousins. He also leaves behind his adoring sweetheart, Alisia Formby of Ruston, and many friends. Justin graduated from Glenbrook School in May 2000, where his senior year he was named 1st team All-District, both offense and defense, for the Glenbrook Apache varsity football team. Justin was an active member of First Baptist Church, Minden. Prior to his illness Justin had been a junior pre-med major at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, where he worked in the La. Tech Bookstore and was a member of Baptist Collegiate Ministry and Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-medical honors society. Even though he will not be able to fulfill his dreams of being a medical doctor, Justin had already touched the lives of many people and that influence will continue through memories of him. Pallbearers include Chris and Craig Walker, Dr. Michael Chanler, Dr. Stanley Chaleff, Matt Bankston, and Chase Black. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Louisiana Tech University Bookstore. Graveside services for Donald E. McLeod, 76, of Atlanta, TX will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003 with Father Jim Hoffman officiating. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. McLeod died Sunday, April 7, 2003 in Atlanta, TX. Mr. McLeod was a native of Ruston and graduate of Ruston High School. He was a World War II US Army veteran that served in the Pacific Theater with honors. He had lived in Oracle, AR and most recently in Atlanta, TX. Survivors include one son, Donald McLeod and wife Margo of Toney, AL; two daughters, Mary Gasper and husband Bennie of Waskom, TX and Diana McMillian and husband David of Atlanta, TX; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Merrill Sinclair Bolding, Jr. Survivors include one son, James E. Stein, Jr. and wife Jo of West Monroe, LA; one daughter, Nina L. Services for Helen Llorens Sanders were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport. Officiating was Father Richard J. Lombard. Interment was in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Shreveport. Mrs. Sanders, a native of Belize, was born July 28, 1917 and died Friday, March 28, 2003 at Willis-Knighton Pierremont. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry G. Llorens. Survivors are her husband, A. C. Sanders of Shreveport, LA; sons, Richard A. Llorens and wife Kathleen of Chicago, IL, and Henry H. Llorens of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Lee Llorens Smith and husband Pat of Ruston, LA; grandchildren, Patrick H. Smith, II, Colleen Smith, Susan Llorens and David Llorens; brother, Lloyd J. Dick Paige. Interment will be in Henry Cemetery in Dubach under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Atkinson died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 in Dubach following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of Hico Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey D. Atkinson; parents, Wylie and Minnie Loyd; brother, Felton Loyd; and niece, Lynette Loyd. Survivors include one daughter, Renee Singleton and husband Lavelle of Hilly; one son, Wylie Carl Atkinson and wife Dianne of Dubach; one sister, Myzelle Loyd of Dubach; one brother, Odie Loyd and wife Zelda of Shreveport; one sister-in-law, Nell Loyd of Ruston; five grandchildren, Lisa Singleton, Laurie Singleton, Terri Butler and husband Richard, Michael Atkinson and wife Jackie and Susan Theodos and husband Steve; thirteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mark Powell, son-in-law, and Rev. Clint Sylvester, grandson. Interment will follow at the Fellowship Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home of Bossier City, LA. Mrs. Stephenson was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin "Frank" Brown and Bertie Coleman Brown, daughter Karen Stephenson and brother Buster Brown. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William "Ed" Stephenson of Ruston, LA; three daughters, Monica Berry and husband Jim of Burleson, TX, Rebecca Powell and husband Mark of Winnsboro, LA and Pamela Golden and husband Carlton of Bossier City, LA; and one son, Ronald Stephenson and wife Lori of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by one brother, five sisters, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a special friend, Selena Speake. Mrs. Mack died Sunday, March 23, 2003 in Ruston, LA following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Mack was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Rotary Club in Monroe, LA and a former Girl Scout and 4-H Leader. Also, she was the former Director of Task Force (formerly Monroe Shelter Workshop), a founding member and past President of the D'Arbonne Kennel Club, founding member of the North Central Hunting Retriever Club which was the first club in the nation, and a member of the AKC Kennel Club. Mrs. Mack was preceded in death by her father, Marion Perkins. Survivors include her husband, Ronald B. Mack; three daughters, Shalain Warren and husband DeWayne, Dorothy Parks and husband Randy, Dawn Hayes and husband Marc; mother, Dorothy Perkins, all of Ruston, LA; ten grandchildren; one sister, Kay Rainey of Houston, TX; one brother, James Lewis of Winnfield, LA; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Dona Genevieve "Gen" Burkhalter Rogers
Mrs. Dona Genevieve "Gen" Burkhalter Rogers died Friday, March 21, 2003 at her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a devoted mother and a loving wife whose great love of family and trust in a loving God was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She was born in Gibsland, Louisiana on March 23, 1931. She graduated from Gibsland High School and attended Louisiana Tech University. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milo W. Burkhalter; four brothers, Donovan, William V., L. Orum and Roland Burkhalter; three sisters, Gayle Burkhalter, Elizabeth Howard and Leslie McBride. Surviving her is her husband of 50 years, Mr. A. B. "Bob" Rogers, and their five daughters, Mrs. Donna Katherine "Kakie" Cox and husband Allen, Bossier City, LA, Mrs. Leigh Anne O'Quinn and husband Mike, Katy, TX, Mrs. Linda Gayle Galasso and her husband David, Katy, TX, Mrs. Elizabeth "Libby" Scott Distad and her husband Stephen, Charleston, SC, and Mrs. Lucy Glenn Sherrouse and her husband Charles, Baton Rouge, LA; twelve grandchildren, Laura and Leslie Cox; Ryan; Brandon, Katelyn and Allison O'Quinn; Michael, Joshua, Jeremy and Jacob Galasso; Elizabeth and Matthew Distad; two sisters, Glennie B. Shearer and Ruth B. McMichael, Ruston, LA; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the D.A.R., P.E.O, and Officer of Auxilliary Board of Baton Rouge General Hospital. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. Pallbearers are Bryan Burkhalter, Ryan O'Quinn, Michael Galasso, Brandon O'Quinn, Joshua Galasso and Jeremy Galasso. Memorial service will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 24, 2003 at First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, Louisiana with Reverend Chris Andrews officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon Monday, March 24, 2003 at First United Methodist Church preceding the Memorial Service. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003 in Arcadia, Louisiana. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Ed Jeffries and the Hospice Foundation of Greater Baton Rouge for their compassionate assistance to the family in the care and comfort of their mother. Karla Lee Kidd
Karla Lee Kidd departed this life on March 20, 2003, leaving behind to cherish her memory, her son, Kaelan; her mother, Ruth Ann; her sister, Holly; her brother, Jonathan; and extended family and friends. Karla was the daughter of C. A. and Ruth Ann Kidd, the granddaughter of Babe and Annie Kidd of Gibsland and Clyde and Lummie Butler of Liberty Hill. Visitation was held at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro, LA from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, with a Memorial Service on to be held on Sunday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Bob Perritt
Funeral services for Bob Perritt, 66, of Arcadia, LA will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003 in the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Arcadia. Officiating will be Rev. Roy Southern assisted by Dr. Bruce Willson. Burial will be in Alabama Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Arcadia. Mr. Perritt died March 20, 2003 in the Willis-Knighten Pierremont Health Center, Shreveport, LA. He was a cattle farmer. Mr. Perritt was preceded in death by his parents, "Pete" and Agnes Perritt; a brother, James "Red" Perritt; and a nephew and niece, Curt and Karen Perritt. Survivors include his wife, Jan Perritt of Arcadia, LA; one son, Rob Perritt of Little Rock, AR; one daughter, Kathy Perritt Slocum and husband Ken of Simsboro, LA; two grandchildren, Kenny and Jake Slocum; one sister-in-law, Betty D. Perritt of Arcadia, LA; a special niece, Becky P. Holtzclaw and husband Phil of Arcadia, LA; great nephews, Christopher Holtzclaw, Justin Perritt, and Collin Perritt; a great niece, Lindsey Holtzclaw; and special neighbors, Glen and Elizabeth Miller and family. Pallbearers will be Ken Murphy, Ray Roberson, Joe Storey, Billy Don Perritt, Albert Joe Dupree, Gaylon Marks, Phil Holtzclaw and Roger Wade. Honorary pallbearers will be Willis Perritt, Jesse Roberson, Lorenz Perritt, Tim Taylor and Ross Perritt. Cheryl Ann Cook
Graveside services for Cheryl Ann Cook, age 47, of Hico, LA will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Harmony Chapel Cemetery in Hico, LA with Rev. Scott Jennings and Rev. Bruce McGee officiating. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Cook died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at her residence. She was a machine operator at Bennett Woods. Survivors include her two sons, Gene Cobb of Sweet Water, AL and Chad Krouse of Shreveport, LA; one daughter, Sharla Cobb of Bernice, LA; two sisters, Jerri Queen and Jeanie Cero, both of Grapevine, TX; her mother, Lillian Broughton of Ruston, LA; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

LaFon Barham Colvin
A memorial service for LaFon Barham Colvin will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003 at First Baptist Church - Dubach, LA. Visitation will be immediately after the service. Mrs. Colvin passed away at home on Thursday, March 20, 2003 after a brief illness. She was born on May 4, 1923 in Dubach. Her husband of 55 years, Charles Ruel Colvin, preceded her in death. Mrs. Colvin is survived by sons, Chris Colvin and wife Vicki of Shreveport, Steve Colvin of Ruston; three grandchildren, Dr. Brad Colvin of Shreveport, Amy Colvin Hermes and husband Daniel of Shreveport, Nathan Colvin of Ruston; one great grandson, Brayden Hermes; in-laws, Kent and Yvonne Colvin of Shreveport, Joel and Gus Colvin of Nashville, Nancy Emerson of Homer, Catherine Emerson of Homer, and Mary and Travis Gray of Dubach; special niece, Betty Virginia Traylor; special nephews, Fred May, Jr. and Charles Barham; and numerous other family members and friends. Mrs. Colvin retired in 1988 from Commercial Union Insurance in Ruston. She was a very giving person, and always put others before herself. She donated her body to LSU Health & Sciences Center in Shreveport. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of Dubach or the Colvin Memorial Fund (2816 Hwy. 167, Dubach, LA 71235).
