Services for Nick Medica, 89, of Ruston, LA will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003 at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Andy Johnson. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Medica died Thursday, March 20, 2003 in Ruston following a lengthy illness. Mr. Medica was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ruston where he was involved in the choir, a Sunday School teacher, and a deacon. He was a former player of the Louisiana Tech Varsity Basketball Team, and a member of Louisiana Tech Athletic "Hall of Fame". Mr. Medica was an avid Louisiana Tech supporter and was "Alumnus of the Year". Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sunshine Medica of Ruston, LA; one sister, Francis Medica of Jena, LA; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 21, 2003 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel Guillory Fuqua
Funeral services for Hazel Guillory Fuqua, 89, will be held Friday, March 21, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville, LA. Services are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville. Mrs. Fuqua died March 19, 2003. Survivors include two sons, Rodney Fuqua and wife Betty of Ruston, LA and Gerald Fuqua and wife Barbara of Pineville, LA; a granddaughter, Lisa Yvonne Fuqua of Ruston; grandson, Keith Fuqua and wife Shelly and their children, Mary Taylor Fuqua and Margaret Grace Fuqua, all of Monroe, LA; and grandsons, Tony Fuqua, Brett Fuqua and Curt Fuqua, all of Pineville, LA. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, March 20, 2003 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Dean Bettell, 61, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2003 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Bernice, with Bro. Mike Smith and Bro. B. H. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville. Mr. Bettell, an employee of Ruston Plywood Plant, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003. He attended Pine Grove Baptist Church and was a member of God's Army. He is preceded in death by his parents, Buril and Ruby Bettell and a brother, Bobby Gene Bettell. Survivors include his wife, Linda Reader Bettell of Bernice, LA; one son, Jeffery Bettell of Colfax, WI; one daughter, Paula K. Rose and husband Jimmy Rose of Dubach, LA; two brothers, Tommy Bettell and wife Brenda of Point Blank, TX and Randy Bettell and wife Judy of West Monroe, LA; two sisters, Mary Goodgion and husband Frank and Carolyn Foster and husband Ricky, all of Ruston, LA; two grandsons, Jimmy Wayne Rose and Hunter Dean Rose of Dubach, LA; and one honorary granddaughter, Anna Kirkland of Choudrant, LA. Louise Temple Gravel Lambert
Mass of Christian Burial for Louise Temple Gravel Lambert, 63, of Lake Charles, LA will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Ruston, with Monsignor Earl Provenza officiating. Burial will follow in Pines Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Ruston, under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Lambert died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 in Lake Charles where she was a Professor of Nursing at McNeese State University. She was preceded in death by her parents, H. H. and Claire Temple. Survivors include one son, Louis Gravel and wife Kathy of Shreveport; one daughter, Holly Carey and husband Joseph of Baton Rouge; one sister, Ann Fertitta and husband Joseph of Shreveport; and two brothers, Robert Temple and wife Mary Eleanor of Ruston and Harold Temple of Many. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 vigil at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, for research, or the Children's Museum of Lake Charles.

Woodrow W. Carter
Services for Woodrow W. Carter, 87, of Ruston, LA will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2003 at Calvary Baptist Church, Vienna, LA. Officiating will be Rev. David Hastings and Rev. David Weeks. Interment will be in Twin Cities Memorial Gardens near West Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Carter died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 in Bernice, LA following a lengthy illness. Mr. Carter was a native of Lincoln Parish, having lived several years in Ouachita Parish where he was active as deacon in Edgewood Baptist Church in West Monroe. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for the past 12 years. He was retired from Louisiana Department of Highways after 38 years of service. He also retired from the City of West Monroe after 12 years as Superintendent of Streets. Mr. Carter also served as Executive Board Member of AFSCME Public Employee's Union. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lillie Maud Carter of Ruston, LA; one daughter, Linda Carter Webb of Calhoun, LA; two sons, Glen Carter and wife Kay of Shreveport, LA and Eric Carter and wife Sharon of Bernice, LA; two brothers, Leon Carter and Herman Carter, both of Brookhaven, MS; two sisters, Janell Colvin of Dubach, LA and Winnie Colvin of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Stacey McKinnie, Carter Webb, Lori Rogers, Kandi Talbert, Chris Carter and Jared Carter; and ten great grandchildren. Thomas Winfield Foley
Thomas Winfield Foley, 78, died on Friday, March 14, 2003 at his home in Livingston, TX. He was born on December 26, 1924 in Maxton, NC to parents William Lyle and Edith Hudgins Foley. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Lyle Foley, Jr. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and married Mildred Spencer Foley in Washington, DC on June 11, 1948. He received a B. S. degree from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, Master of Theology and Bachelor of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA; and attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. He was a Presbyterian Missionary to Brazil from 1951 to 1973; Area Secretary for Latin America Board of International Missions, Presbyterian Church (USA) from 1973 to 1977; Minister of Pastoral Care / Visitation Minister with Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, TX from 1977 to 1989; served as a Stated Supply Pastor for First Presbyterian Church in Deport, TX from 1990 to 1997; and was Interim Pastor for Alabama Presbyterian Church in Choudrant, LA from 2001 to 2002. He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Midge" Foley of Livingston, TX; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Mark and Lynn Foley of Decatur, GA and Timothy John and Miyuki Foley of Lewisville, TX; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Bruce Draeger of Traverse City, MI and Kathleen "Kitty" and Fred Thrower of Kingwood, TX; six grandchildren, David Foley, Colin Foley, Becky Draegar, Rachel Draegar, Thomas Thrower and Kate Thrower; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Harry Lee Hoover of Broadway, VA. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at First Presbyterian Church of Livingston, TX. Reverend Rod Peacock will conduct the service. Odette B. Newman
Graveside services for Odette B. Newman (Mrs. Arthur R. Newman), 93, of Dubach, LA will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Bruce Magee. Services are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Newman died Sunday, March 16, 2003 in Arcadia following a brief illness. Mrs. Newman was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ray Newman and her son-in-law, John Edward Colvin, Sr. Survivors include one son, Clifford Newman and wife Faye of Breaux Bridge, LA; one daughter, Marjorie Colvin of Dubach, LA; grandchildren, Jan McCullin and husband Sid, John Ed Colvin and wife Carla, Paul Colvin and wife Karen, Steve Newman and wife Elaine, and Sherry Vincent and husband Joey; ten great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren. Homegoing services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 18 at Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 5.5 miles northeast of Ruston (Hwy. 33). Burial will be at Mt. Harmony Cemetery also. Mrs. Houston was born March 30, 1931 to the parentage of the late John Willie and Corean Mayfield in Vienna, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Houston. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Deloris Malone (Ronnie) and Nita Quinn (Terry), both of Ruston, LA; six sons, Rickey Kimble, Lee Marvin Kimble (Cynthia), Albert Kimble (Peggy), Leroy Kimble (Barbara), all of Ruston, LA, Rev. Services for Alameda Singer Smelley, 79, of Mansfield, LA will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003 in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Lou Dunlap. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Smelley died Thursday, March 13, 2003 in Shreveport, LA. She was a former resident of Ruston, but resided in Mansfield for the last 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett W. Smelley. Survivors include two sons, Joe W. Smelley of Shreveport, LA and Roy D. Smelley of Mansfield, LA; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 14, 2003 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Choudrant Cemetery, Choudrant, LA under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Ruston. Mrs. Smith died Monday, March 10, 2003 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed A. Smith; two sisters, Toy Smith and Fronie Emory; and a brother, Roy Tims. She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Pitts and wife Carolyn of Choudrant, LA and Jerry Smith and wife Sue of Ruston, LA; brother, George Tims of Texas; and two sisters, Ruth Sanderson and Dennie Harrell of Choudrant, LA; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Dennis Norman Church
Funeral services for Dennis Norman Church, 46, of Ruston, LA, formerly of Marshall, TX, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2003 in the Little Chapel by the Lake at Colonial Gardens Cemetery, Marshall, TX. Interment will be in Colonial Gardens, Marshall, TX, under the direction of Sullivan Family of Funeral Directors. Mr. Church died March 2, 2003 in Houston, TX. He received his education in the Ruston, Louisiana public schools and two years of education in an Electronics School. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps. He worked for a tree company in Ruston, LA prior to his death. Mr. Church was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy White Church, and grandparents, Margaret White, Stella Mathews and Edward Church. Survivors include two daughters, Anne-Marie Randall and Denise Church, both of Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Timothy Randall, Haley Randall, Matthew Randall and Miah Waterhouse, all of Naples, FL; his parents, Rayford and June Church of Marshall, TX; one brother, Philip Calhoun of Longview, TX; sisters, Margaret Williams of Austin, TX, Elizabeth Robison of Alexandria, LA, Barbara Driskill of Ruston, LA, Shannon Howe of Marshall, TX and Sylvia Lawrence of Marshall, TX; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rosemary Freeman
Funeral services for Rosemary Freeman, 75, of Ruston, will be held Monday, March 10, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home in Ruston with Reverend Rolly Walker of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be following at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston. Mrs. Freeman died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Lincoln General Hospital. She was born March 8, 1928, on her father's farm in Bossier Parish to the late John Wilson Watson, Sr. and Sadie Nash Watson. She was also descended from pioneer families, the late Ella Cooper Watson and John Nicholson Watson of Princeton, La., and the late Christopher Columbus Nash and Melinda Annette Williams Nash of Natchitoches, La. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, The Daughters of the American Revolution, and The National Society Magna Charter Dames and Barrons. She graduated from Haughton High School and Meadows Draughn Business College. She is survived by her husband James Keller Freeman, Sr., son James Keller Freeman, Jr., of Houston, Texas and twin daughters Sandra Lynn Freeman of Shreveport and Cynthia Ann Cotton and husband James Clinton Cotton, Jr. and their son Christopher Keller Cotton of Lenexa, Kansas. Also surviving are sister Dorothy Watson Glover and husband Edward Prince Glover, a sister-in-law Patricia Martin Watson, wife of the late John Wilson Watson, Jr., her brother. She will also be sadly missed by three nieces, three nephews, three great-nieces, seven great-nephews, one great-great niece, and one great-great-nephew. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Carroll Wayne Crawford
A memorial service for Mr. Carroll Wayne Crawford, 57, of Choudrant will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Choudrant with Rev. Brad Jones officiating. Mr. Crawford died Thursday, March 6 in Ruston following a short illness. He was born October 10, 1945 in Haynesville, LA, living in Baton Rouge and Arcadia most of his life. Mr. Crawford was a retired truck driver. He is survived by his wife, Sue Crawford of Choudrant; mother, Peggy Dean Crawford of Ruston; three sons, Adam Lee of Ruston, Matt and wife Teresa and grandson Logan of Shreveport, and William David and grandson Raymond of Richmond, VA; brother, William "Sonny" and wife Cageline of Slidell; two step-sons, Joe Ellenburg and wife Barbara, David Ellenburg, all of Ft. Worth, TX; three step-daughters, Robbie Ellenburg, Lisa Gardner, both of Ft. Worth, TX and Cathey Ellenburg Andriola of Farmerville; nine step grandchildren; one step great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Crawford.

Melvin Wyatt Barfield
Funeral services for Melvin Wyatt Barfield, 88, will be held at Hico Baptist Church on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dick Page and Richard Warmack officiating. Interment will be in Henry Cemetery in the Hico Community under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Barfield died Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Arcadia Baptist Retirement Center in Arcadia, LA after a lengthy illness. He was born in Union Parish on April 17, 1914. His home for more than 60 years had been in the Hico Community. He was a deacon of Hico Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Honrie O. Barfield, and one son, Wayne Barfield. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Clement of Baton Rouge, LA; son Ray Barfield and wife Ruth of Dubach, LA; son, Bart Barfield and wife Sallie of Dubach, LA; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Barfield of Ruston; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, R. B. Barfield and wife Margie of West Monroe, LA; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Barfield of Farmerville, LA and Louise Barfield of Shorter, AL; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Neal Barfield, Russell Barfield, John Clement, Greg Ferrell, Chet Ovitt and Paul Phillips. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2003 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Bernice, LA.

Ruth Jones Phillips
Graveside services for Ruth Jones Phillips, 87, of Ruston, LA were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003 in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 1296 Downsville Road, Downsville, LA. Officiating was Dr. Chris Craig. Services were under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Phillips died February 28, 2003 in Ruston, LA following a lengthy illness. She was a longtime employee of The Palace Department Store in Monroe and a retired business owner in Ruston with her late husband, Casey Phillips. She was also a longtime member of the Faith Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Ruston. Survivors include two sons, James Farmer and Ronnie Farmer and wife D'Anne of Ruston, all of Ruston; grandchildren, Scott Farmer of Dallas, TX, Tommy Farmer and wife Karen and Kim Goree and husband Burl, all of Ruston; great grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Farmer and Logan Goree; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Sunday, March 2, from 4 until 6 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Helen McElrath
Funeral services for Helen Foster McElrath, 98, will be held in the chapel of Temple Baptist Church on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 10:00 a.m., with Dr. David Willets and Rev. Dale Oden officiating, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Interment will be in the Roebuck Baptist Church Cemetery, Roebuck, S.C. Mrs. McElrath died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in Ruston after a brief illness. She was born in Roebuck, S.C. on September 20, 1904, and graduated from Roebuck High School and Anderson College, Anderson, S.C. Mrs. McElrath was preceded in death by her parents, John Landrum and Eliza Jane Foster; one sister, Kathleen Foster; two brothers, John Daniel Foster and Moses Alexander Foster; and her husband, William Herman McElrath, all of Roebuck, S.C. After receiving her college degree, Mrs. McElrath taught school until her marriage. She joined Roebuck Baptist Church as a child, and is still a member there. She was active in the Women's Missionary Society, and taught in the youth missions groups. She is a charter member of the Roebuck Garden Club. Mrs. McElrath made her home in Roebuck, S.C. until she was 95 years old, at which time she moved to Ruston to be with her daughter and son-in-law. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane McElrath Lewis and her husband Richard Brooks Lewis of Ruston; two grandchildren, Richard B. Lewis, Jr. and wife Mindy of Austin, TX and Jonathan Foster Lewis of Austin, TX; and four great grandchildren, Andrea Margaret (13), Sydney Jane (13), Bronwyn Alice (11), and Tucker William Richard (8). She is also survived by a niece, Emily Joan Foster McKeown of Roebuck, S.C., and a niece, Sarah Alexander Foster Schuessler of Naples, FL. Pallbearers will be Dickie Crawford, Kenny Cox, Benny Denny, Bob Ferrington, Robert Hearn, Dick Hudson, Doug Malden, Mike Milstead, Jackie Robbins and Robin Robbins. Special thanks goes to a group of ladies who lovingly cared for Mrs. McElrath at home during her illness, Betty Williams, Willie Mae Priutt, Henrietta Slaton, Martha Lewis, Mavis Davis and Kay Loe; and to Lincoln General Hospital Home Health Care.

Guy Carroll
Services for Guy Carroll, 89, of Ruston will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Cook Baptist Church of Ruston. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Carroll was born August 30, 1913 in Oak Ridge, Louisiana. He died March 4, 2003 at his home in Ruston, where he had lived for forty years. Mr. Carroll was a devout Christian who devoted his life to serving his Lord. He was a faithful member of Cook Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where he played football and was honored as a Small College All American. After graduation, he served his country in the Pacific during World War II. When he returned home, he taught school and coached for forty years in the Louisiana school system. Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josie Tillman Carroll of Ruston; two sons, Danny Carroll and wife India, and Dale Carroll and wife Claire; a daughter, Suzanne Carroll McCarter and husband Greg, all of Ruston; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jo Carroll Kerbow. Pallbearers will be sons Danny and Dale, son-in-law Greg McCarter, Dr. Billy Smith, Ricky Goulart and Roger Presley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cook Baptist Church Adult I Sunday School Class. Maudie Gillis DeFreese Taylor
Services for Maudie Gillis DeFreese Taylor, 86, of Ruston, LA will be held Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home's Ruston Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Wayne Evans and Dr. Doug McGuire. Interment will follow in the Vienna Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Taylor died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 in Ruston following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Taylor had moved to Ruston from Center, TX in the early 1940s after the death of her parents. She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was active in The Holley Sunday School Class, the Grace prayer group and was a charter member of the Grace Quilters. Mrs. Taylor had also been a former president of the Grace United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Piecemakers Quilting Club of the Greenwood Community. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin Lonnie DeFreese, whom she married in 1942, and second husband, Clyde Taylor, whom she married in 1983; and also several brothers and sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Linda DeFreese Richmond and her husband John Fred Richmond, Jr. of Ruston; one sister, Addie Johnson of Center, TX; granddaughter, Elizabeth Lynn Pratt and her husband Davis of El Dorado, AR; a grandson, John Michael Richmond and his wife Melissa of Baton Rouge, LA; great grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth and Rebecca Lynn Pratt, Sydney Kate, Carrie Madeline and Mary Michael Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Travis DeFreese, Bill Crowe, Bill Sheridan, Verrnon Lay, David Pratt and J. Michael Richmond. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Grace Church Holley Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rubie Elois McBay Pollock
Funeral services for Rubie Elois McBay Pollock, 100, of Grambling, LA will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003 in the Lewis Temple C.M.E. Church with Rev. Ricky D. Helton officiating. Burial will be in the Grambling Memorial Gardens in Grambling, LA under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Mrs. Pollock was born in Mexia, Texas to the union of Houston and Ada McBay. Her three older sisters, Oneita McBay Pinkard, Isabella McBay, and Ivaree McBay Dunn, preceded her in death. She completed her public school education in Mexia, Texas. After graduation from Prairie View College, she studied music at Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio, her career as a public school teacher and music teacher covered many years in Mexia, Texas. She was married to Dr. S. M. Pollock for fifty seven years. Mrs. Pollock died March 1, 2003 in Grambling, LA. Survivors include two daughters; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Huey P. Johnson
Graveside services for Mr. Huey P. Johnson, 73, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach, LA with Bro. Michael Cook officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville. Mr. Johnson, a lifelong resident of Dubach, died Sunday, March 2, 2003. He is preceded in death by his step-son, J. R. Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Marie Johnson of Dubach; two sons, Victor Johnson of Farmerville and Johnny Johnson of Dubach; two daughters, Betty Hartwick of Farmerville and Kay Chandler of Ruston; one step-daughter, Dianne Hudson of Benton, AR; one brother, J. T. Johnson of Arcadia, LA; one sister, Ruby Britt of Dubach, LA; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm. Tuesday, at Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville.

Annette Swift McCullin Terral
Services for Annette Swift McCullin Terral, 55, of Ruston, LA will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003 in the Temple Baptist Church Sanctuary. Officiating will be Rev. George Meadows assisted by Rev. Dale Oden. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Terral died February 28, 2003 in Houston, TX following a brief illness. Annette was born in Crisfield, Maryland on July 20, 1947. Her parents, Charles Edward Swift and Martha Swift, moved to Simsboro when Annette was 2 years old and to Ruston in the late 1950s. Annette graduated from Ruston High School in 1965 and received a two year Secretarial Science degree from La. Tech in 1967. She has been employed at Tech in the Comptroller's office for 36 years and has been Payroll Supervisor for the past 15 years. She married James Terral on December 28, 2002. Mrs. Terral was an active member of the Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. Her life was marked by loyalty, dedication and integrity. She was deeply loved by her family and a host of friends. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, Louisiana. Survivors include her husband, James R. Terral III of Ruston, LA; one brother, Richard Swift of McKinney, TX; two step-sons, J. R. Terral and Mike Terral; and one step-daughter, Rebekah Terral. Pallbearers will be Joe Thomas, Don Hogan, Jeff Risinger, Ken Risinger, J. R. Terral and Mike Terral. Honorary pallbearer will be Fred Price. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2003 at the funeral home.

Emma Louise Stephens
Services for Emma Louise Stephens, 84, of Ruston, LA will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2003 in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Dale Oden. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Stephens died Saturday, March 1, 2003 in Ruston, LA following a brief illness. Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ruston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Jefferson Stephens. Survivors include one daughter, Norma Jean Brown of Richardson, TX; two sons, Jeffrey Lynn Stephens of Raleigh, NC and Gerald Emmett Stephens of Shelby Co., TX; one sister, Pauline Gallien of Monroe, LA; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Pallbearers will be family. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time.

Jenny Lea Esparza
Services for Jenny Lea Esparza, 21, of Ruston, LA will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2003 in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Benefield and Rev. Bobby Kranz. Interment will be in Pines Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Jenny died Thursday, February 27, 2003 in Shreveport, LA as the result of an auto accident. Jenny was a member of First Baptist Church in Ruston. She was a student at Ouachita Vo-Tech and was a cashier at Super One Food Store in Ruston. Survivors include her mother, Susan Esparza of Ruston, LA; her father, Martin Esparza of Houston, TX; one sister, Summer Esparza Baucum and husband Jared of Picayune, MS; her grandparents, Kermit and Barbara Patton of Ruston and Emma Esparza of Rungee, TX; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. Pallbearers will be Trey Lunsford, Jeremy Patton, Ronald Boudrieau, Steven Bullock, Brian Brumett, John Manning, Jeremy Wallace and John Hall.
