REV. PAUL ELKINS BROOKS
Mulhearn Funeral Home - West Monroe, LA
Paul Elkins Brooks was born July 23, 1924 in Rhinehart, Louisiana, the seventh son of Leondias Hill and Eloise Randall Brooks.
He graduated from Manifest High School and attended Centenary College, before graduating from East Texas Baptist University.
He earned a Masters Degree from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, and continued until the last semester of receiving a Doctorate of Theology.
He surrendered to preach at Queensboro Baptist Church in August 1948 during a revival.
With his taking up the mantle of his earthly father and grandfather, God immediately moved him into service with his first sermon closing that same revival, where he issued his first call from the pulpit to follow Christ to over 500 attenders.
His journey with the Lord took him to Pinecroft Baptist Church, Shreveport where he shepherded it from a mission to a church. He once again followed his earthly father as minister to Pine Hill Baptist Church before serving the Lord at Mangham Baptist Church. He retired from Mangham after 27 years, but the Lord called him back into service at Longstraw Baptist Church in Choudrant, Louisiana, where he pastored for 19 years, retiring at age 79. At his retirement he announced that he had totaled the years that his family had served the Lord and found it to be 350 years as Baptist ministers, and that he was still counting as Cory, his grandson, carries on.
He loved preaching and continued to fill in until Sunday April 24, 2005, he spoke the words that mirrored his life's message as he preached his sermon "God, More than Enough".
After issuing that invitation to follow the heavenly Father, the Lord stood up and said, "It is finished. Well done thy faithful servant, come home." He fought the good fight and finished the race. He never left the pulpit in his earthly life, but now he sings in glory where we will all once again see his face. To God be the glory.
