DR. LAMOINE TURNER MURPHY
Kilpatrick Funeral Home - West Monroe, LA
Funeral services for Dr. Lamoine Turner Murphy, 90, of Monroe, will be held Friday, April 29, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe.
Rev. Charles Martindale and Rev. Ronald Murphy will officiate.
Interment will be in Monroe Memorial Park Mausoleum, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.
Dr. Murphy, a retired chiropractor, was born June 15, 1914 in Dallas City, IL, and died April 26, 2005 in Monroe, LA.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
During the war, he served aboard the USS Half Moon, a seaplane tender, from 1943-1945.
The ship operated in the Pacific and he was aboard her during the roughest war years.
After his retirement from the Navy in August 1955, he earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
Upon graduation, he moved to Monroe, LA, and was a pioneer in the chiropractic profession until his retirement in 1983.
Dr. Murphy was a member of the First Baptist Church, West Monroe, and a member of the Barak Shrine and a former member of Downtown Monroe Lions Club.
He served many years in High Twelve at ULM and was an avid West Monroe Rebel fan.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Dr. Lester O. Murphy and Grace Turner Murphy, brothers, Dr. O.W. Murphy and Dr. L.J. Murphy, wife and mother of his sons, Mable Glass Murphy, adoptive mother to his sons, Louise Stanley Murphy and Jessica Lawn Murphy.
He is survived by his two sons, Dr. J. L. "Jack" Murphy and wife, Phyllis M. of West Monroe, LA, and Rev. Ronald D. Murphy and wife, Phyllis L. of St. Anne, IL, three grandchildren, Tamara Murphy Beck, Colorado Springs, CO, Christopher T. Murphy, Laredo TX, and Melinda "Missy" Murphy of West Monroe, LA, five great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild and one brother, Joseph D. Murphy, San Leandro, CA.
Pallbearers will be Jim Barry, Larry Conrad, Blake Gaston, Clyde Jolly, Bill Marsalis and Jack Ramey.
Honorary pallbearers will be District 2 Chiropractic Association of Louisiana doctors of Chiropractic, Dr. David Burkett, Morris Dupre and Jerry Durham.

Graveside services for Mrs. Frances C. Brennon, 88, of West Monroe, will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 29, 2005, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Joe Solomon and Rev. Weldon Bares officiating.
Services are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mrs. Brennon, a charter member of Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church, was born April 1, 1917, in New Heburn, MS, and died April 26, 2005, in Monroe, LA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Brennon and two children, Linda Elliott and Gary Brennon.
Survivors include her children, Kathy Brennon Wilson of West Monroe, Frank Shipley and wife, Darline of Chase, LA, Doris Jean Swift of West Monroe, Jack Brennon and wife, Jeanette of Swartz, Dorothy Pitts of Monroe, and Carol Rainey of Monroe; two sisters, Geraldine Hand of Monroe, and Jo Lyons of Houston, TX; eighteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Services for Henrietta "Etta" Cockerham Hodges, age 84 of Folsom, LA, formerly of Jackson, MS, will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2005 at the Rosefield Baptist Church in Rosefield, with Rev. Arvie Jolly officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rosefield Cemetery, under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia, LA.
Mrs. Hodges was born on September 24, 1920 in LaSalle Parish, to the union of John Fount and Mary Bertha Hopkins Cockerham and died Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at her residence.
She was a homemaker and was a residence of Jackson, MS, for some 50 years.
She was a member of the Daniel Memorial Baptist Church in Jackson, where she served her Lord faithfully in the church nursery.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: Quincy Ray Hodges, Sr.
Survivors include her son: Quincy R. Hodges, Jr. and his wife: Katrina of Pearl River, LA, her daughters: Marilyn H. Baber and her husband: Ray of Milam, TX, and Kathy H. Lindsey and her husband, Lee of Folsum, LA, her grandchildren: Quincy Hodges, III, Stacy Wilkins, Dana Miller, Carrie Elliott, Jody Swilley, Micah Lindsey, Jared Lindsey, Sarah Messer, Sable Messer and Ross Messer, great-grandchildren and her sister: Irma C. Marcille of Beddeford, Maine.
Pallbearers will be Quincy Hodges, III, Micah Lindsey, Jared Lindsey, Lee Lindsey, Ray Barber and Sam Hodges.
Visitation will be at noon, Friday at the Rosefield Baptist Church, Hwy 126 East, Grayson, LA.

KARR, JAMES H., JR., "JIM", age 68, of Birmingham, AL, died April 26, 2005.
Jim Karr was born in Leeds, AL and graduated from Leeds High School in 1955, from there, he attended Howard College in Birmingham, AL, from 1955 to 1956 on a Football Scholarship.
From January 1960 to May 1964, he attended Logan Basic College in St. Louis, MO, and graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree.
From June 1964 to October 1967, he practiced Chiropractic in Monroe, LA.
In February 1970, after a skiing accident, he changed venues and started with Combined Insurance Company Teacher Division.
He pioneered Teacher Sales and designed a marketing system to mass market disability income, cancer, life and all types of insurance to the school market.
In January 1973, he co-founded National Teacher Associates of Dallas, TX.
His tenure with N.T.A. lasted for 18 years.
Jim served as a Consultant for American Teacher Services, Inc. of Birmingham, AL, until his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Gertrude Karr, Sr.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be missed very much.
He never went a day without giving glory to God in all situations.
Survivors include wife, Frances Karr of Birmingham, AL; sons, Greg (Renea) Karr of Alabaster, AL and Keith (Shawn) Karr of Montevallo, AL; grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Evan, Natalie and Lauren; sisters, Anne K. Poe of Cedar Bluff, AL, and Patricia (Jerry) Partridge of Leeds, AL.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 29, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, with burial in Southern Heritage Cemetery.

Interment will follow in Crockett Point Cemetery, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
April was born on April 22, 1980 in West Monroe, and passed from this life on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Baton Rouge General Hospital, following an extended illness.
Although April suffered through many trials during her brief life, she always maintained a positive and loving attitude portrayed through her smile, her love for family and friends and through her love of music.
She will be missed by her mother, Brenda Anderson Armstrong of Winnsboro; her father, Charlie Armstrong, III of Sterlington; her brother and sister, Jon-Reese Armstrong and Alexandra "Ali" Armstrong, both Winnsboro; and her grandparents Nettie Jean Archibald of Delhi, H.G. "Sonny" Anderson, Charlie, Jr. and Avis Armstrong all of Winnsboro.
April is also survived by her aunts and uncles: Ricky and Beverly Williams, Mickey and Barbara Ferrington, Beth Anderson, Bill and Sandy Anderson, Vernis and Ginger Russell, Mike and Catherine Brent, Joe and Kim Armstrong, and numerous other relative and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Armstrong, III, David Brent, Christopher Fortenberry, Dustin Russell, Tracy Wheeler, and Trent Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Andrews and Chuck Archibald.
