Edward "Big Joe" Joseph Washington Sr., a retired porter for Hotel Dieu Hospital, died Saturday of diabetes at Memorial Medical Center. He was 66. Mr. Washington was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of Vieux Carre Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Minnie Washington; four daughters, Desiree Ross, Michelle Johnson, Gail Pierre and Patricia Wilson; five sons, Edward Washington Jr., Michael Washington and David, Gregory and Kenneth Crawford; two brothers, Henry Washington and Renee Gaines; 25 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Living Faith Christian Fellowship Church, 4339 Eastern St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Estelle J. Ruby Davis, a retired beautician, died Saturday at Lafon Nursing Home. She was 85. Ms. Davis was born in Geismar and lived in New Orleans for the past 80 years. She was a member of Greater Tulane Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Reginald Douglas Lawson Sr.; a sister, Ruth D. Christy; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Greater Tulane Baptist Church, 214 N. Johnson St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Beverly Weaver Boyd, a homemaker, died Sunday of congestive heart failure at Doctors Hospital of Jefferson. She was 75. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include her husband, Robert S. Boyd; a son, Robert D. Boyd; two sisters, Mary Ann Lee of Memphis and Dudley Davis of Dyersburg, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Rose Ramsey, a retired purchasing manager at Kaiser Aluminum, died Thursday of a heart attack. She was 54. Mrs. Ramsey was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. She was the former president of the National Association of Purchasing Management of Greater New Orleans and received the Emile L. Morvant Outstanding Membership Award in 1993. Survivors include her husband, Edward J. Ramsey; a brother, James Packer; and two sisters, Patricia Emmons and Gloria Daley. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

Harry Thomas Denman, president of DAC Company, Inc., died Sept. 4 of complications from pulmonary fibrosis at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, Texas. He was 70. Mr. Denman was born in Waurika, Okla. and lived in River Ridge for the past 33 years. He was a graduate of Midwestern University. He was a veteran of the Navy during the Korean War, serving on the USS Owen. he received a Korean service medal with two stars and a United Nations service medal. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Ford Denman; a son, Robert Dewitt Denman of Plano; a daughter, Elizabeth Gaynell Denman Daigle of Plano; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 6017 Camphor St., Metairie. A funeral was held Sept. 7 at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Plano. Burial was in Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco, Texas. Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles R. Zammit, a retired construction worker, died Wednesday of prostate cancer at his home. He was 70. Mr. Zammit was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 43 years. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and Tulane University School of Business. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi and Professional Business Fraternity. He was a former Boy Scout leader, past president of the St. Benilde Church Holy Name Society and Home & School Association and was vice president of the St. Vincent DePaul Conference of St. Benilde Parish. He was awarded the Order of St. Louis Medallion by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include two sons, Charles R. Zammit Jr. of Abita Springs and Daniel F. Zammit; a daughter, Lori Zammit Werner; a sister, Barbara Zammit Westerfield of Arabi; and four grandchildren. Nicholas Michael Tarantino Jr., a retired steel fabrication superintendent, died Thursday at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia. He was 82. Mr. Tarantino was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during World War II. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include two sons, Ernest E. Tarantino of Durango, Colo., and Michael J. Tarantino of New Iberia; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of St. Louis Cathedral School, St. Aloysius High School and Northrop Institute of Technology in California. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Pollet Brooks Bourgeois; a stepson, Jay Brooks Jr.; two stepdaughters, Cherie Eues and Donna Swope; a brother, Ronald Bourgeois; a sister, Lois Engel; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. James "Sid" Mullen, a merchant mariner, died Tuesday of a heart attack at his home. He was 59. Mr. Mullen was born in Easthampton, Mass., and lived in Covington before moving to Bogalusa a year ago. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of sergeant. Survivors include his wife, Janice Mullen; three sons, Chris, Dieter and Scott Mullen; two stepsons, Michael and Russell Naquin; a stepdaughter, Dawn Naquin; a brother, Bill Mullen; a sister, Paula Mullen; and two grandchildren.
