Charles J. Henry, an educational diagnostician with the Orleans Parish school system, died Saturday of undetermined causes at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. He was 59. Mr. Henry was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School, Southern University at New Orleans and Southern University at Baton Rouge. He was an Air Force veteran. He had been vice president of the Inner City Lions Club, founder of the Buddy-Up Cadet program, a volunteer coach with Special Olympics, a Cub Scout leader and a member of the board of advisers at St. Mark's Community Center. He was a member of the American Federation of Teachers, Louisiana Educational Diagnostic Association and United Teachers of New Orleans, and was nominated for the Educational Diagnostician of the Year award in 1995. He was a member of Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church and its Male Choir, and was director of the church's Youth Frill Team. Survivors include his wife, Julia White Henry; a daughter, Charlita Henry Benoit; a brother, James J. Henry Sr.; and a sister, Jean H. Barnes of Atlanta. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 3317 Toledano St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. D.W. Willie Davis Fields, a self-employed truck driver, died Saturday of a pulmonary embolism at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was 53. Mr. Fields was born in Opelousas and lived in Kenner for the past 37 years. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include a son, Leonard Fields; five brothers, Lanetic, Landrus, Howard and Matthew Fields, all of Houston, and Andrew Fields of Gonzales; three sisters, Viola Chambers and Shirley Robinson, both of Houston, and Mary Ann Malcolm of Marrero; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Baptist Church, Louisiana 103, Port Barre. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Baptist Church Cemetery. Evelyn Ross Skipper, a retired employee of the Orleans Parish School Board, died Aug. 28 at Memorial Medical Center. She was 84. Mrs. Skipper was born in Lutcher and lived in New Orleans for the past 65 years. Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Ross Watson of Chicago and Geraldine Ross Banks of Baton Rouge; and her mother, Florence Barber Ross. Ruby Fay Benge Frederic, a telephone operator and clerk for the federal government, died Thursday at Northshore Living Center in Slidell. She was 92. Mrs. Frederic was born in Jacksonville, Texas, and lived in Lacombe for more than 50 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church's Women's Missionary Union. She was also a member of the Lacombe Garden Club and Camellia Club, and she received many ribbons and awards for raising rare plant specimens and blooms. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Toomer Cemetery in Lacombe.

Doris A. Gaspard, a retired secretary, died Sunday at Family Care Group. She was 79. Ms. Gaspard was born in White Castle and lived in Metairie for more than 50 years. Eddy "Big Ed" Corley, an employee of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, died Wednesday of undetermined causes at Charity Hospital. He was 65. Mr. Corley was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a retired welder at Avondale shipyard and a former worker for Orleans Material. He was a member of the Third Order of Mary, president of St. Julian Eymard Holy Name Society and a parishioner of St. Julian Eymard Catholic Church. He received the Order of St. Louis Medallion and was a member of the executive committee of the Archdiocese of New Orleans' Union of the Holy Name Society. Survivors include his wife, Ida Troxclair Corley; two sons, Patrick J. and Bradley E. Corley; two brothers, Henry Corley and Certice Corley Jr.; a sister, Edith DeBarbieris; and a grandchild. Odessa G. Duckworth Jr., a gardener, died Monday of cancer at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 48. Mr. Duckworth was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from St. Augustine High School and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and Southern University at New Orleans. He was a parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. He was a petty officer first class in the Navy for four years and served in the reserves for two years. Survivors include his wife, Linda Kennedy Duckworth; three daughters, Keiyana, Monica and Domonique Duckworth; his father, Odessa G. Duckworth Sr.; his mother, Mercedes Lewis Duckworth; two sisters, Melanie Duckworth of Reno, Nev., and Jacquelyn Duckworth Davidson; and a grandchild. Aurolyn Veronica Taylor-Coleman, a veterinarian's assistant, died Monday of congestive heart failure at St. Claude Medical Center. She was 55. Mrs. Taylor-Coleman was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from Joseph S. Clark Senior High School and a veterinary school in St. Petersburg, Fla. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church and a member of the Heights of Life Social and Pleasure Club. Hattie Maude Williams Brown, a founding assistant professor at Southern University of New Orleans, died Tuesday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was 85. Mrs. Brown was born in Natchitoches Parish and lived in New Orleans for the past 48 years. She received a bachelor's degree from Prairie View A&M; College and a master of science degree from Indiana University. She was a nurse in the Army Nurse Corps and a head nurse at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, at McHarry Medical College. She was the first nurse at SUNO. She taught health at Grambling State University, Dillard University and SUNO. She was a golden life member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, established the Epsilon Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta at SUNO and served as a sorority adviser for many years. Survivors include several cousins. William McTague, a retired accountant, died Thursday at East Jefferson Hospital. He was 79. Mr. McTague was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 46 years. He was an agent for the Internal Revenue Service for 28 years and had worked as an accountant for Kentwood Spring Water for 15 years. He was an Army sergeant during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 6640 and American Legion Post No. 203. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Eiserloh McTague; a son Brian John McTague; two daughters, Maureen McTague Hertz and Colleen McTague Muhoberal; a sister, Patricia McTague Tusa; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Gayle Tyler Gilbert, a medical transcriptionist, died Saturday of cardiopulmonary arrest at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She was 49. Ms. Gilbert was born in Laurel, Miss., and lived in Covington for the past 10 years. Survivors include her fiance, James Cross Jr.; a son, Jason Gilbert; a daughter, Jessica Gilbert; her mother, Helen Robichaux Tyler of Mandeville; and two sisters, Jo Preston and Kaye Tyler.
