Andrew J. "A.J." Englande Sr., a retired caster at American Standard, died Sunday of cancer at Chalmette Medical Center. He was 77. Mr. Englande was born in New Orleans and lived in Arabi for the past 40 years. He was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, where he was an usher. He was a member of Friends of the Cabildo, Save our Cemeteries Committee, the Aquarium of the Americas Committee and the Knights of Columbus. He was a commissioner of voters in Arabi. He served in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Rasch Englande; three sons, Larry P. and Cliff M. Englande and Andrew J. Englande Jr.; two daughters, Lorraine E. LaGrange and Laura E. Scallan; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 6 p.m. at Vickers, Verrette & Dornan Funeral Home, 3027 Jean Lafitte Parkway, Chalmette. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
