Maggie Griffin Batiste, a child-care provider, died Wednesday of cardiac arrest at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 61. Mrs. Batiste was born in Franklin and lived in New Orleans for more than 40 years. She graduated from Willow Street High School. She had worked for the Orleans Parish School Board and Dengates Sewing Factory. She was a member of James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and its hospitality committee. Survivors include her husband, Frank Batiste; a daughter, Lavinzale Denise Batiste; and a brother, Melvin Griffin Sr. A funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 4228 Thalia St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery. Gaskin-Southall Gordon & Gordon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DILLON, GLORIA ASKINS
06/01/02

Gloria Askins Dillon, a former employee of the Orleans Parish School Board, died Tuesday of leukemia at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 61. Mrs. Dillon was born in Plaquemine and lived in New Orleans for the past 42 years. She was a member of Mount Herman Baptist Church and served on Usher Board No. 2. Survivors include her husband, Marshall Dillon Jr.; a son, Michael Askins; three daughters, Karen Askins, Pamela Davenport and Undrell Steward; a stepson, Rodney Dillon; two stepdaughters, Velda and Kimberly Dillon; her mother, Lillian J. Ovete; three brothers, Wesley Askins of Los Angeles and Ulysses Askins of New Orleans and Lawrence Ovete of Plaquemine; a sister, Lillian Banks of Plaquemine; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Herman Baptist Church, 2153 N. Broad St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Tilly's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CASSARD, CHARLES ANTHONY JR.

Charles Anthony Cassard Jr., a retired senior marketing director with SYSCO, died Sunday of colon cancer at his home. He was 66. Mr. Cassard was born in New Orleans and lived in Tylertown for the past 37 years. He was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church and was a member of TAK and Theata Golden Agers. Survivors include his wife, Juliana S. Cassard; a son, Charles A. Cassard III; two daughters, Kerrilyn C. Areneaux and Judi C. Metzler; a brother, Kenneth B. Casard Sr.; a sister, Clare C. Rice; and seven grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery No. 1.

ZILTON, EDWARD SR.
06/15/02

Edward Zilton Sr., a retired superintendent of property management for the city of New Orleans, died Wednesday of cancer at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 79. Mr. Zilton was born in Gray and lived in New Orleans for many years. He was a graduate of Gout Trade School in Honolulu. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific and European theaters. He was a civilian employee of the Navy at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked in 1941. Mr. Zilton was a member of Vera Cruz Masonic Lodge No. 24 Prince Hall Affiliation and Platta Temple No. 15, Eureka Consistory No. 7. He also was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served on many boards and committees. He was a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, was a member of the Ninth Ward Voters League and was active with many other organizations. Survivors include his wife, Lillie O. Zilton; a son, Edward Zilton Jr. of Houston; five sisters, Hazel Harding, Rosalie Z. Sanders, Catherine Z. Duplantis and Miranda Z. Myles, all of Gray, and Doretha Z. Walker; and two grandchildren. A wake and funeral will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2221 Filmore Ave. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Dismissal will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

RHODES, WILLIS DUPLAIN
05/28/02

Willis Duplain Rhodes, a laborer and construction worker, died May 19 of congestive heart failure at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 68. Mr. Rhodes was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include a daughter, Donna R. Davis. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Port Hudson National Cemetery, Port Hudson. Littlejohn's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Keya Amanda Little, a homemaker, died Saturday of undetermined causes at her home. She was 21. Ms. Little was born in Independence and lived in Lacombe for the past two years. She graduated from Northeast Jones High School in Laurel, Miss. Survivors include a daughter, Kaykeigh Nicole Hutchinson of Slidell; her father, Dorman Allen Little Jr., of Gulfport, Miss.; her mother, Bridgette Pierce Smith; her stepfather, Charles Smith Jr.; her stepmother, Darlene F. Little of Gulfport; a brother, Corey A. Little; a sister, Jennifer N. Little of Slidell; a half-sister, Sandy A. Little of Houston; her grandparents, Dorman A. Little Sr., Linda Hillhouse and Ellen K. Pierce; her step-grandparents, Mary E. Adams and Delphine D. Pierce; and a great-grandfather, Joseph B. Pierce. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Visitation will be today from 7 to 10 p.m. and Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

David Colburn Brown Sr., a sous-chef at the Audubon Institute, died Tuesday at Charity Hospital of a gunshot wound. He was 22. Mr. Brown was born in Slidell and lived in New Orleans for many years. Survivors include two sons, Steven Taylor and David Colburn Brown Jr.; a daughter, Kateline Elizabeth Brown; his father, David Brown of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; his mother, Carvelle Brown; and a brother, Eldon Ashley Brown of Longview, Texas. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Burgetown Cemetery, Carriere, Miss. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Picayune Funeral Home in Picayune, Miss.

DAVIS, RHONDA ANN CLARK

Rhonda Ann Clark Davis, a housekeeper for Windsor Court Hotel, died Wednesday of complications from breast cancer at University Hospital. She was 33. Mrs. Davis was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School and Sidney Collier Vo-Tech School. She was a former nurse's assistant for Lafon Nursing Home. Survivors include her husband, Richmond Davis Sr.; a son, Richmond Alvin Davis Jr.; two daughters, Reshandra Alexandria and Brittany Ann Davis; her mother, Patricia Jackson Clark; her grandmother, Estelle Rhodes Brown; three brothers, Kevin Joseph, Alfred Sr. and Ronald Paul Clark Sr.; and four sisters, Jacqueline Alvinette George, Bobbie Clark Alexander, Sherry Dell Daigle and Michelle Rene Clark. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Laudumiey Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Highway. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Chad Michael Young, a student at Delgado Community College, died Sunday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Slidell. He was 17. Mr. Young was born in Covington and lived in Slidell for many years. Survivors include his father, James Gelpi; his mother, Deborah Young Gelpi; six brothers, Joey, Justin and Chris Young, Troy and Jay Gelpi and Johnathan Gabriel; and two sisters, Michelle and Denise Gelpi. A funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Louisiana 41, Pearl River. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pearl River Cemetery.

PINCUS, ALAN S.

Alan S. Pincus, a retired consulting electrical engineer, died Thursday of cardiac arrest following surgery at Touro Infirmary. He was 76. Mr. Pincus was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Tulane University. He was an instructor at Tulane and was an employee with R.H. Schroeder and Associates, where he was an engineer. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Philatelic Society, the New Orleans Museum of Art, Citizens Care and the Vieux Carre Property Owners, Residents and Associates. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Clara Frederick Pincus. A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd.

PETERSON, BETSY ANN

Betsy Ann Peterson, a cook, died Saturday of undetermined causes at her home. She was 45. Ms. Peterson was a lifelong resident of Covington. Survivors include a son, Shawn Peterson; two brothers, Daniel and Albert McKaskill Jr.; and a sister, Alice Casborn of New Orleans. A funeral will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Zion Hall in Mandeville. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in White Settlement Cemetery. WILLIAMS, DAVID

David Williams, a retired journeyman and industrial painter with Naval Support Activity, died Saturday at his home. He was 78. Mr. Williams was born in Raceland and lived in Harvey. He attended Union Baptist Theological Seminary. He was an Army sergeant and received the Good Conduct, ATO-American Campaign, Europe-Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign and Foreign Service medals. Mr. Williams was a deacon and a Sunday school and Bible study teacher at Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church. He also was a member of Mount Pilgrim Lodge No. 91. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Williams; two sons, Larry and Don Williams; a daughter, Dalell Williams McCune of Somerset, N.J.; a stepdaughter, Barbara Collins; a brother, Albert Williams; a sister, Sadie Adams; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church, Harvey. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Christian Social Cemetery, Gretna. Davis Mortuary Service is in charge of arrangements.

OGDEN, NANCY ALLEN

Nancy Allen Ogden, an artist, died Wednesday in Natchez, Miss. She was 92. Ms. Ogden was born in New Orleans and lived in Havana, Cuba, for 24 years and in Natchez for the past 41 years. She graduated from Louise S. McGehee School and Newcomb College. She formerly was an art instructor for the Natchez school system. Her work included illustrations and paintings of landscapes, historical landmarks, homes, buildings and churches in Cuba, Natchez, New Orleans and North Carolina. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez and Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Saluda, N.C. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, First Families of Mississippi, Pilgrimage Garden Club, Garden Club of America, Hunt Botanical Institute of Carnegie-Mellon University, Orleans Club of New Orleans, Le Petit Salon of New Orleans, Historic New Orleans Collection, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Historic Natchez Foundation, Natchez Art Association, Natchez Historical Society, Mississippi State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Progressive Study Club, Episcopal Church Women and Joseph Kuehnle Guild. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy "Nicky" Ogden Rodgers Keller of Greenville, S.C., Anne "Anita" Ogden Moore of Atlanta and Ellen Ogden Hefley; a sister, Eva Allen de Laureal of New Orleans; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Ogden Family Cemetery at Greenfield Plantation. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Katherine Fields Bolds, a homemaker, died Sunday at Life Care Hospital. She was 81. Mrs. Bolds was born in Bogalusa and lived in New Orleans for many years. She was a member of Greater Morning Star Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Warren N. Bolds; two sons, Michael N. Bolds Sr. and Warren Bolds Jr.; three daughters, Doellen M. Burrows Boudouin, Lindia L. Rivarde Williams and Sandra G. Smith; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 841 East Sixth St., Bogalusa. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home, 638 Columbia St., Bogalusa, and at 4:30 p.m. at the church. Dismissal will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Duffy Cemetery in Lee's Creek.
