Doris R. Ordoyne, a retired secretary, died Wednesday of kidney failure at Lifecare Hospital. She was 70. Mrs. Ordoyne was born in Westwego and lived in Harahan for 53 years. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3267 for 47 years. Survivors include three sons, Lawrence P. Ordoyne of Tylertown, Miss., Reginald Ordoyne of Waggaman and Sidney Ordoyne Jr. of River Ridge; two brothers, Donald Melancon of Lockport and Gerald Melancon of Schriever; two sisters, Genevive Matherne of Vacherie and Yvonne Guillot of Thibodaux; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A prayer service will be held today at noon at L.A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home, 2929 Metairie Road. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

Gilbert R. Danna, a purchasing agent, died Tuesday of Lou Gehrig's disease at his home. He was 60. Mr. Danna was born in Gorman, Texas, and lived in New Orleans for the past 15 years. He attended the University of New Orleans where he was a founder and charter member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He was a purchasing agent for Boeing at Michoud and Cape Canaveral and was involved in the Saturn V project and the "moon buggy" project. He was a member of the Purchasing Management Association New Orleans Unit and the American Contract Bridge League. He held a silver life masters in tournament bridge and taught bridge at the Jewish Community Center. Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey Oliver, Charles Davidson and Andrew Edward Danna; his mother, Minta Oliver Danna; a brother, Joe O. Pedarvis; and a sister, Joy Danna Cates. A graveside service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd.

Brian J. Bailey, a student at Northshore High School, died Friday of injures suffered from being struck by a car on Interstate 10 in Slidell. He was 18. Mr. Bailey was born in Houston and lived in Slidell for the past 15 years. Survivors include his father, James W. Bailey; his mother, Carol R. Bailey; his grandfather, Bill Riley of Smithville, Texas; and his grandmothers, Marjorie Bailey of Oklahoma City and Jane Riley of Smithville. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 360 Robert Blvd., Slidell. Visitation will continue after services in the Wesley Center. Anthony DeMarco Jr., a retired employee of the city of Hampton, Va., died Thursday of heart failure at his home. He was 74. Mr. DeMarco was born in Reserve and lived in Hampton for the past 35 years. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Alvina DeMarco; a son, Anthony DeMarco III; three brothers, Russell, Sal and Joseph DeMarco; two sisters, Rosalie DeMarco Zappula and Josie DeMarco; and two grandchildren. Melvin John "Daddy" Gerdes, a former employee of the Housing Authority of New Orleans, died Friday at his home. He was 84. Mr. Gerdes was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was an original member of the Satan Sinners Club. Survivors include five sons, Charles and Melvin Lewis, Terry and Ronald Gerdes and Tron Hughes; five daughters, Louise and Diana Lewis, Joyce Thomas, Cherry Minor and Toye Hughes; 32 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mr. Edwards was born in Wilder, Idaho, and lived in Kenner for 25 years. He worked for State Farm Insurance Co. for 34 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Freida Rosa Edwards; a daughter, Pamela Rooney; two sons, Calvin Liggett and Albert Edwards Jr.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Nathaniel Deleon Holland Sr., a retired cook, died Friday of cardiac arrest at Lakeland Medical Center. He was 65. Mr. Holland was born in Kinston, N.C., and lived in New Orleans for 41 years. He attended Delgado Community College. He was a staff sergeant in the Army. He was a cook supervisor at Children's Hospital and an income tax preparer for 15 years. He was a deacon at Beulah Land Baptist Church. He was a chaplain with the Pin Jammers Bowling League. Survivors include his wife, Alberta M. Young Holland; two sons, Nicholas and Nathaniel D. Holland Jr.; three daughters, Natalie H. Lockett, Nadine H. Fleming and Nelda H. Wells; and four grandchildren. Alexander William Bartfay, a former engineer with the defense logistics agency at John C. Stennis Space Center, died Tuesday at East Jefferson Hospital. He was 77. Mr. Bartfay was born in Wyandotte, Mich., and lived in Slidell for 25 years and Metairie for the past two years. He was a graduate of Montrose High School in Montrose, Mich. He attended Tri-State University in Angola, Ind., and was an aerospace engineer with Lockheed Martin, Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors include three daughters, Pamela B. Rice, Cheryl B. Scripter and Vanessa B. Wetzel; a brother, Arthur Bartfay; four sisters, Margaret DeShong, Elizabeth "Alice" Christenson, Anne Croner and Mary Frances Katzer; and three grandchildren. Arthur Simmons, a self-employed businessman, died Wednesday of heart failure at Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was 61. Mr. Simmons was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he received a bachelor of arts degree. He was a past employee at Magno Corp., and was the director of the Division of Youth Services for the state of Louisiana and director of Youth Opportunities for the City of New Orleans. He was the recipient of the Spirit of Greatness Award. He was a member of Elysian Fields Church of Christ and was past president of the Desire-Florida Civic Education Association and Democratic committeeman. He was an SP5 in the Army, where he was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Award and the Marksman Award. Survivors include his wife, Mary Carolyn Travis Simmons; a son, Brian Arthur Simmons; a daughter, Stacey Simmons Curtis; three sisters, Sherolyn Simmons Jacques, Brenda Simmons and Aldreama Simmons Smith. Wanda Reshall, a child specific teacher's assistant with Jefferson Parish schools, died Monday of a pulmonary embolism at her home. She was 51. Miss Reshall was a lifelong resident of Gretna. She graduated from Lincoln High School and the Jefferson College of Legal Studies. She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and was in the senior choir, mission band and prison ministry.
