James L. Vinet Jr., a retired employee of Southern Pacific Railroad & Transport, died Monday at Metairie Healthcare. He was 89. Mr. Vinet was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He served in the Army National Guard. He was a former president of the Passenger Club. Survivors include two daughters, Joanne V. LaCour and Jacquelyn V. Lopez; two brothers, Roland and Val Vinet; three sisters, Yelva Raymond, Mildred Walz and Ida Mae Huard; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Sedender Starks, a homemaker, died Monday at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 82. Mrs. Starks was born in Troy, Ala., and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. John MacReynolds Schowalter Sr., a refrigeration engineer, died Saturday of heart failure at his home. He was 72. Mr. Schowalter was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for many years. He was a graduate of Loyola University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in commercial science. He was a veteran of the Navy, where he served as a radioman during the Korean war. Survivors include his wife, Joycelyn LaBiche Schowalter; two sons, John M. and Paul O. Schowalter; two daughters, Ann Hicks and Karen F. Schowalter; a brother, Col. Edward R.
