Albertha J. Dabney, a home health care sitter, died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center. She was 90. Mrs. Dabney was born in Port Hudson and lived in New Orleans. She was a member of Star Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, president of the Missionary Society and a choir member. Survivors include two sons, Charles N. Green and John Ridley; two daughters, Ora Mae Jones and Janet D. Kinzy; a stepson, Sullivan J. Dabney Jr.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Star Bethel Baptist Church, 2217 Harmony St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. D.W. Dorothy S. Hornblower Durfee, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Harborside Healthcare Center-Crestwood in Milford, N.H. She was 81. Mrs. Durfee was born in Gulfport, Miss., grew up in New Orleans and lived in Chestnut Hill, Mass., then in Milford for the past 27 years. She graduated from Vassar College. Survivors include a son, Henry Hornblower III of Dedham, Mass.; two daughters, Harriet Hornblower of Dunstable, Mass., and Eleanor H. Sarren of Unalakleet, Alaska; and six grandchildren. A graveside service will be today at Riverside Cemetery in Milford. Smith & Heald Funeral Home in Milford handled arrangements.

Vernon Joseph Leslie Smith, a retired executive administrator with Southeast Louisiana Hospital, died Wednesday at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was 89. Mr. Smith was born in Lewisburg and was a lifelong resident of Mandeville. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of the Mandeville Lions Club and a former Scoutmaster with the Mandeville Boy Scouts. Survivors include his wife, Dollie Rose Smith; four sons, Leslie, Kenneth, Vernon and Forrest Smith; two daughters, Kathleen Curtis and Priscilla Pinckard; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mandeville. Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home in Covington and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Mandeville Cemetery.

Kevin McRae Haynie, a student at Louisiana State University, died Saturday of injuries suffered in an auto accident. He was 21. Mr. Haynie was a lifelong resident of Slidell. He graduated from Pope John Paul II High School and was a junior at LSU majoring in biochemistry. Survivors include his father, William Stephen Haynie; his mother, Mary Ann Gravois Haynie; a brother, Jeffrey Joseph Haynie; and his grandparents, Lloyd A. Gravois Sr., Florence Gravois, both of Metairie, and Betty C. Haynie of Marksville. A funeral will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell, followed by a Mass at 2 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m. and Thursday beginning at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Gary Joseph Bourgeois, a retired maintenance technician at Monsanto Chemical, died Monday of cancer at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 57. Mr. Bourgeois was born in Luling and lived in Harahan. He worked for Monsanto for more than 34 years. He was a member of the Forty and Over Baseball League, and he was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Donna Toups Bourgeois; a son, Dwayne A. Russell A. Hall Sr., a retired clerk for Illinois Central Railroad, died Wednesday of a heart attack at Chalmette Medical Center. He was 74. Mr. Hall was born in New Orleans and lived in St. Bernard Parish for the past 42 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, June Appel Hall; a son, Russell A. Hall Jr.; three daughters, Mary Ann Thompson, Cynthia Gabb and Adrienne Lezina; three brothers, William "Billy" Hall, Dudley Hall and the Rev. William Espinosa, a business administrator, died Thursday of a gunshot wound at his home. He was 39. Mr. Espinosa was born in Pereira, Colombia, and lived in New Orleans for the past 22 years. He attended Tulane University and graduated from Delgado Community College. He was a former general manager for Downman Road Storage. Survivors include a son, William Espinosa Jr.; three daughters, Naara, Valeria and Crystal Espinosa; his father, Hernando Espinosa; his mother, Cecilia Espinosa; three brothers, Henry, Anthony and Hernando Espinosa Jr.; and a sister, Yolanda Espinosa. Joseph A. Pictagio Jr., a welder at Avondale Shipyard, died Sunday of heart failure at Lifecare Hospital. He was 44. Mr. Pictagio was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 32 years. Mae Ethel Gatlin, a teacher and speech therapist in the New Orleans public school system, died Friday of breast cancer at Touro Infirmary. She was 53. Ms. Gatlin was born in Tylertown, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for many years. She was a graduate of Southern University at New Orleans and received a master's degree in speech therapy from the University of New Orleans. She was a foster mother to more than 30 children and had served as president of the Foster Parent Association. She was a member of Touro Woman, Cancer Support Group; was a United Teachers of New Orleans representative; and had served on the City Planning Committee. She had been a director of the New Orleans Recreation Department summer camp program and a sponsor of several girls dance teams. She was a member of Mount Kingdom Missionary Baptist Church, was director of the children's choir and served on the Pastor's Aid Committee and the Beautifying Committee. Survivors include two sons, Mario Gatlin and Aubrey Gatlin Turner; a daughter, Arlicca Jenkins of Houston; her mother, Larcenia Thomas; her stepfather, Henry Thomas; two brothers, Charles Gatlin of LaPlace and JoNathan Gatlin; three sisters, Dorothy Patterson of Milwaukee, Wis., Lenora Darmus of Slidell and Glendora Patterson of Summit, Miss.; and a grandson. A wake will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mount Kingdom Missionary Baptist Church, 3756 Louisa St. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Mount Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Tylertown. John Martin Voelkel Jr., a retired bartender, died May 21 of congestive heart failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 83. Mr. Voelkel was born in New Orleans and lived in Marrero for the past eight years. He retired from the International House as a bartender at 68. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, Asian-Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, one Service Stripe and two Overseas Service Bars. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Scovotto Voelkel; a son, John Joseph Voelkel; a daughter, Mary Lou Voelkel Schmidt; and three sisters, Lillian Voelkel Lensmyer, Dorothy Voelkel Russo and Florence Voelkel.
