Derrick Chad Lewis, a carpenter, died Wednesday at his home of complications from a seizure. He was 30. Mr. Lewis was born in Covington and lived in Mandeville the past several years. Survivors include his fiancee, Dawn E. Williams; his father, Joseph O. Lewis; his mother, Sharon Achee Reid of Folsom; a son, Zachary Oscar; a brother, Ronnie E. Porter; a sister, Kimberly Arnett; and a half-brother, James Reid. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Visitation will be today from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bruhl Cemetery in Folsom.

Andrew H. Wiebelt Sr., a retired environmental protection superintendent for the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans, died Wednesday at Tenet Memorial Hospital. He was 78. Mr. Wiebelt was born in New Orleans and lived most of his life in New Orleans. . He graduated from Jesuit High School and Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., and attended graduate school at St. Charles College at Grand Coteau and St. Mary's College in St. Mary's, Kan. He was a former chemistry and physics teacher at Sam Barthe School and Jesuit High School, both in New Orleans, and Jesuit High School in Shreveport. He was a third-degree member and past grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council No. 4547 (Immaculate Heart of Mary Council), a parishioner of Resurrection of Our Lord Parish and a member of the Resurrection Association of Men. Survivors include his wife, Roseclaire McNamara Wiebelt; three sons, Andrew H. Jr., Christopher L. and David A. Wiebelt; and six grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at Resurrection of Our Lord Church, 9701 Hammond St. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., and Monday beginning at 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery.

Wayne J. Shipley, a maintenance worker at Louisburg Square Apartments, died Friday of undetermined causes at his home. He was 32. Mr. Shipley was born in New Orleans and lived in Terrytown for the past 11 years. Survivors include his wife, Denise Dolbear Shipley; a son, Joseph Wayne Shipley; his father, Carroll W. Shipley; his mother, Kathleen Besson Shipley; a brother, Justin Shipley; and two sisters, Bridget Comardelle and Sunshine Shipley. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Chapel of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 West Bank Expressway, Marrero. Deborah Kyzar Marshall, a homemaker, died Monday of pneumonia at NorthShore Regional Medical Center. She was 46. Ms. Marshall was born in Columbia, Miss., and was a longtime resident of Pearl River. Survivors include her daughter, Samantha Marshall Gifford; her mother, Betty Marnell of Biloxi, Miss.; a brother, Freddie Kyzar; three sisters, Sandy Kennedy, Kathy Garriga and Carol Roberts; and two grandchildren. Lucinda K. Newell, a homemaker, died Tuesday at Lutheran Nursing Home. She was 95. Mrs. Newell was born in Laurel, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for many years. She was a member of Rosedale Missionary Baptist Church and was president of its senior choir, director of its senior mission, a Sunday school teacher, a member of its beautifying club and a former homecoming queen. Survivors include three daughters, Cemyrtle Jordan, Lucille Breland and Claudia N. Darby; a brother, Billy Newell; a sister, Louise Baker; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A wake will be held today at 8 p.m. at Rosedale Missionary Baptist Church, 6757 Brutus St. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Dismissal will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Sunlight Baptist Church in Laurel. Willie E. Vance Jr., a laborer at J&L; Trucking, Inc., died Monday of a gunshot wound in the 1300 block of Bienville Street. He was 23. Mr. Vance was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Eloise Jackson, a retired employee of the Royal Sonesta Hotel, died Monday of lymphoma at her niece's home. She was 77. Christella Jean Thompson Campbell, a homemaker, died June 6 of an aneurysm at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, Calif. She was 47. Mrs. Campbell was born in New Orleans and lived in Yucaipa, Calif., for the past 22 years. She graduated from O. Perry Walker High School and California State University in San Bernadino, Calif. She was a member of Calvary Christian Center in Yucaipa, Calif. David K. Metzger, a Latin America cataloger for Tulane University Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, died Thursday of a heart attack at his residence. He was 51. Mr. Metzger was born in Winchester, Ind., lived in Muncie, Tenn., and in New Orleans for 16 years. He graduated from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, with a political science degree and a master's of library science. He earned an M.A. and an A.B.D. in Latin American studies at Tulane University. From 1991 to 1994, he was a research assistant to Dr. Richard E. Greenleaf, France V. Scholes Chair in Colonial Latin American History. Survivors include his companion, Olga T. Zenowich; a brother; Dennis D. Metzger of Juno Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Connie D. Booth of Middleburg, Fla. Services will be private. L.A. Muhleisen and Son is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Lee Gives Sr., an administrative assistant with the Orleans Parish School Board, died Friday of brain cancer at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. He was 60. Mr. Gives was born in Pine Prairie and lived in New Orleans for the past 33 years. He was a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he received bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He was a past employee at Marion Abramson Senior High School, where he was the recipient of many awards, including teacher of the tear. He was a member of One Faith Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and superintendent of the Sunday school. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Mims Gives; a son, Thomas Lee Gives Jr.; his mother, Dosher Gives of Eunice; six brothers, Wesley Gives Jr., David, John and Matthew Gives of Eunice, Odell Gives of Houston, Texas, and Leo Gives of Upper Marlboro, Md.; and two sisters, Leta Bell Waddell and Martha Lee Williams of Houston, Texas. Edward Joseph "E.J." Ellis, a sales executive for Acme Paper Box Co., died Thursday of heart failure at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was 66. Mr. Ellis was born in New Orleans and lived in Lacombe for the past eight years. He was a past employee of Pelican Electronics, where he was a sales executive for 26 years, and John Brown Olds, where he was a fleet service manager. He served with the military police in the Army National Guard. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Margaret Calderone Ellis; two daughters, Kathy Ann Ellis Mullet and Debra Ann Ellis Guelfo; a brother, Warren Ellis; a sister, Mary Ann Ellis; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. James "Jimmy" Caston, a self-employed mechanic, died May 17 of emphysema at his home. He was 66. Mr. Caston was born in Gloster, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 48 years. He graduated from Rosawald High School in Liberty, Miss. He was a member of Peoples Methodist Church and was a Mason. He was a member of Star Hill Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Gloster. Survivors include his companion, Jean Douglas; a brother, Charles Caston of Aurora, Colo.; and a sister, Betty Caston Lynch. A memorial service will be today at 1 p.m. at Majestic Mortuary, 1833 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Burial is private.
