Wesley Lee McGhee, receiving manager at Groetsch Wholesale Grocery, died Saturday of colon cancer at his home. He was 54. Mr. McGhee was born in Mercedes, Texas, and lived in Kenner for the past 13 years. He was a sergeant in the Air Force. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Dru McGhee; his parents, Wesley Barton and Carmen B. McGhee of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and a sister, Ann Cseh of Canby, Ore. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Parkview Baptist Church, 6301 Camphor St., Metairie. L.A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Albert "A.J." Stevens, a retired BellSouth employee, died Sunday of congestive heart failure at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 73. Mr. Stevens was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Louisiana Air National Guard 159th for 30 years and reached the rank of master sergeant. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Henry Thomas Ross American Legion and was a captain in the Louisiana Air National Guard Retirement Association. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Stevens; a son, Ronnie James Stevens; and a sister, Rita Stevens Sambola. A funeral will be held Friday at noon at All Faiths Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

Robert Earl Collette Sr., a retired cement finisher, died May 17 at Memorial Medical Center. He was 82. Mr. Collette was born in Olivier and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. He was a member of Laborers International Union Local 689. He was a parishioner of St. Monica Catholic Church, where he was an usher. He was a member the St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Peter Claver Council No. 59. Survivors include three sons, Robert Earl Collette Jr., Carl Edwards Collette Sr. and Michael Johnson; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 7 p.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 2327 S. Galvez St. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. A Mass also will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Edwards Catholic Church in New Iberia. Laverne Anderson Reese, an employee of the Jefferson Parish school system, died Thursday of complications from an aneurysm at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 61. Mrs. Reese was born in Dallas and lived in Jefferson Parish for the past 32 years. She graduated from Warren Easton High School. Survivors include her husband, William E. Reese; a son, Curtis Lee Kennedy; three daughters, Connie Ross, Vera Bonicard and Treena Collins; a brother, Anthony Anderson; a sister, Sharon Cusanza; and 19 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner. Julia Lee Rucker, a retired supervisor with National Food Co., died Friday at St. Margaret's Daughters Home. She was 77. Mrs. Rucker was born in Lexington, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for many years. She was a graduate of Ambrose High School in Lexington. She was a member of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church and a former member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, R.C. Rucker; a son, Calvin Rucker; two daughters, Bobbie Fowler-Harris and Yvonne Burell; two brothers, Willie C. and Oscar Williams Jr.; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. David M. Hecker, a retired chief electrical inspector for Jefferson Parish, died Friday at his home. He was 84. Mr. Hecker was born in New Orleans and lived in Marrero. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Immaculata Knights of Columbus Council No. 4222. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 222. He served in the Army as a navigator and pilot during World War II. Survivors include two sons, David B. and Mark S. Hecker; a daughter, Mary H. She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and was in the senior choir, mission band and prison ministry. Helen Yatsko Nathan, a former manager of the Madison Avenue Schrafft candy store, died Sunday at her home. She was 84. She was born in Patton, Penn., and lived in New Orleans for the past 23 years. She graduated from Caldwell High School and Drake College of Business in New Jersey. Mrs. Nathan received a 20-year award from Schrafft. She was a tutor for New Orleans schoolchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne P. Nathan and Gail J. Nathan of New York; a brother, Michael Yatsko of Vero Beach, Fla.; a sister, Josephine Y. Hoehne of Southern Pines, N.C.; three step grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hawthorne, N.Y.
