Ricky Luke Barthelemy Sr., a laborer for Severn Trent Services, died Monday of cancer at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 43. Mr. Barthelemy was born in New Orleans and lived in Port Sulphur. He attended Port Sulphur High School. Survivors include his wife, Carla Ancar Barthelemy; three sons, Derek and Ricky Barthelemy Jr. and Paul Sylve Jr.; three daughters, Brandy Johnson, Ashley Rogers and Taylor Ancar; three brothers, Joseph, Gerald and Anthony Barthelemy; three sisters, Mary Picquet, Debra Carter and Theresa Barthelemy; and four grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Port Sulphur. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Barthelemy Cemetery in Diamond. D.W. John Oswald Duhe, a retired powerhouse operator for Kaiser Aluminum in Gramercy, died Thursday of complications from surgery at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 70. Mr. Duhe was born in Reserve and lived in LaPlace for 43 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5004. During the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Hooper Island, ARG12. He was a member of the LaPlace Recreation and Youth Organization, for which he coached boys baseball for 10 years. He also was duke of the Krewe of Allovus in 1977. Survivors include his wife, Betty Montz Duhe; two sons, J. Bradley Duhe of Irving, Texas, and Brandon Duhe of Garyville; two daughters, Dina Duhe Starks of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Darcie J. Duhe of Irving; a brother, Harold Duhe of Marrero; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Monday at 8:30 a.m. at Millet Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 W. Airline Highway. A Mass will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 529 W. Fifth St. Burial will be in St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Genevieve Smith Freudenthal, a retired school teacher at Gretna Park Elementary, died June 1 of kidney failure at Meadowcrest Hospital. She was 71. Mrs. Freudenthal was born in Angleton, Texas, and lived in Algiers for the past 33 years. She graduated from Angleton High School and the University of Houston. Survivors include a son, Ray Lee Freudenthal; a daughter, Ann Freudenthal Kana; and two grandchildren. A private gathering will be today at 4 p.m. Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Hills Sr., a longshoreman, died Wednesday of a heart attack at Charity Hospital. He was 81. Mr. Hills was born in Gheens and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. He was a deacon of First Emanuel Baptist Church. Survivors include six sons, Gary, Kenneth, Nathan, Tyrone, Michael and Jessie Hills Jr.; a sister, Mertha Hills; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at First Emanuel Baptist Church, 1829 Carondelet St. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in McDonoghville Cemetery. Raymond W. Gibliant Jr., a retired New Orleans firefighter and maintenance department supervisor, died Sunday at Walden Health Care Center. He was 81. Mr. Gibliant was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 17 years. Survivors include his wife, Rita Miller Gibliant; a son, Roy Gibliant; three daughters, Rae Ann G. Smith, Joy G. Cathy Ann Ruello Doyle, dean of students at Isidore Newman Middle School, died Tuesday of cancer at her home. She was 55. Mrs. Doyle was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy High School and the University of New Orleans with a bachelor of arts in English. She was a member of the National Council of Teachers of English. She taught at Newman School for 20 years and received the Stephen B. Lemann Award for excellence in teaching for the year 2000. Survivors include a son, Christian Bronson Doyle; a daughter, Abigail Kathleen Doyle; and a brother, Joseph Francis Ruello. A memorial service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Bultman Funeral Home, 3338 St. Charles Ave. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Burial will be private.

Mildred P. Bundy, a homemaker, died Saturday at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 87. Mrs. Bundy was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for the past 27 years. She attended Project Independence at the Lighthouse for the Blind. She had worked at Who's Who in Poetry and the International Poetry Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Sociable Seniors at Nativity of Our Lord and the Kenner Council on Aging. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Bundy Spatafora; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Brother Dennis P. Lonergan died Wednesday of pulmonary fibrosis at Ignatius Residence, a home for Jesuits in Algiers. He was 74. Brother Lonergan was born in New Orleans and lived in Algiers for many years. He attended St. Rita Parochial School and Jesuit High School. He entered the Society of Jesus in Grand Coteau. His life as a Jesuit brother took him all over the South and Southwest in a variety of assignments including baker, cook and house manager. He was one of the original members of the Brothers Corps, traveling to each Jesuit institution in the New Orleans Province to make repairs and renovations. He pronounced his final vows as a Brother in the Society of Jesus at Immaculate Conception Church in New Orleans. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Rita Greenhaw of Ponchatoula and Kathleen Amadeo of Slidell. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 6201 Stratford Place, Algiers. Beverly Lewis Green, a licensing supervisor for the State Board of Nursing, died Friday of congestive heart failure at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 60. Mrs. Green was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a graduate of Xavier Preparatory School and attended Louisiana State University in New Orleans. She was a former employee at Delgado Community College and the State Board of Certified Public Accountants. Survivors include three daughters, Jonelle G. Brown of Marbleton, Ga., and Carla M. and Anissa R. Green; eight brothers, Nathan, Theron, Raphael, Wayne, John, Ronald, Arnold and Kelson Lewis; three sisters, Carolyn L. Jasmin, Rose L. Wilson and Denise L. Anderson; a grandmother, Hilda Alexis; and a grandchild. Harvey J. Landry Sr., a counterman for Shell Oil Co. in Norco, died Thursday of complications from a stroke at his home. He was 77. Mr. Landry was born in Garyville and lived in Norco for 50 years. He was a former employee of National Gypsum, Celotex and GATX. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 195 and Knights of Columbus. Mr. Landry was a private first class in the Army Air Corps. Survivors include his wife, Georgia D. Landry; three sons, Harvey Jr., Harold and Barry Landry; a brother, Lloyd Landry; a sister, Norris L. Byron; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A wake will be held Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home in Norco. A Mass will be said Monday at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Spruce Street in Norco. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Walter Gills III, a retired veteran of the National Guard and Army, died Wednesday of complications from ataxia at his home. He was 50. Mr. Gills was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Joseph S. Clark High School and Holy Cross College. He was a former employee of Avondale Shipyard and Woodward, Wight and Co. He was a former member of New Home Ministries, Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, and the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn Marie Gills; two daughters, Gaylynn and Rolinia Gills; his father, Walter Gills; his mother, Aslena Gills; two brothers, Willie Gills and Donald Wilson; two sisters, Bobby Lawrence and Darlene Gills; two grandchildren; and eight stepgrandchildren.
