Annalee Marie Paoletti Chagnard, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Metropolitan Hospice in Jefferson. She was 79. Mrs. Chagnard was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a member of the New Orleans Municipal Employees Club. Survivors include her husband, Warren E. Chagnard; two sons, Elvan and Dennis Chagnard; a brother, Andrew Paoletti; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass will be held today at 1 p.m. at Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home, 1717 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Roch Cemetery No. 2.

Derrick Chad Lewis, a carpenter, died Wednesday at his home of complications from a seizure. He was 30. Mr. Lewis was born in Covington and lived in Mandeville the past several years. Survivors include his fiancee, Dawn E. Williams; his father, Joseph O. Lewis; his mother, Sharon Achee Reid of Folsom; a son, Zachary Oscar; a brother, Ronnie E. Porter; a sister, Kimberly Arnett; and a half-brother, James Reid. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Visitation will be today from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bruhl Cemetery in Folsom.

George Davis, an Army veteran, died Sunday of lung failure at his home. He was 53. Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Lillie "Ethel" Davis; two sons, Jabbar and Joshua Davis; a daughter, Deedra Duplessis; two stepsons, George and Darren Duplessis; three stepdaughters, Duwanda and Dionne Duplessis and Dana Strachan; his mother, America Davis; three brothers, Richard, Jimmy and Anthony Davis; two sisters, Ivory Williams and Henrietta Brown; and 14 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, 2008 Marigny St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. D.W. James O. White Sr., an operator for the Army Corps of Engineers, died Monday of a heart attack at his home. He was 61. Mr. White was born in McComb, Miss., and lived in Slidell for the past five years. He graduated from Francis T. Nichols High School in 1958. He served as an airplane mechanic specialist in the Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Devenport White; a son, James "Oliver" White Jr.; a daughter, Alexis D. White; a stepson, Troy Crissman; his mother, Ferol Cobb Beoubay; a brother, Fred Hart; and a sister, Beverly Chauffe. The funeral was Thursday at Vickers, Verrette and Dornan Funeral Home, 3027 Jean Lafitte Parkway in Chalmette. Burial was private.

Lloyd "Party Boy" William Johnson Sr., an employee of Celotex, died Monday of an aneurysm at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 58. Mr. Johnson was born in White Castle and lived in Marrero. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Johnson Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, and Lydell Johnson; two daughters, Jeannie Mitchell and Lois Johnson; two brothers, the Rev. Bert Johnson of Massachusetts and Tyrone Johnson; and a sister, Marion McAlfred. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Davis Mortuary Service, 6820 West Bank Expressway. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale.
'Chase' Dickey, 83, community activist

Former New Orleans Planning Commissioner Charles E. "Chase" Dickey Jr., a longtime Carnival captain and West Bank civic activist, died Monday at Meadowcrest Hospital. He was 83.
A lifelong resident of Algiers, Mr. Dickey was a graduate of Martin Behrman High School. An Army officer who served in the European theater during World War II, he earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After the war, he returned to Algiers and opened his own insurance business and later became a commercial real estate broker.
"I adored Chase Dickey," said New Orleans City Councilwoman Jackie Clarkson, who represents Algiers. "He was one of my role models."
Mr. Dickey was a founding member of the Algiers Kiwanis Club and the Krewe of Janus Carnival organization, where he served as captain for 50 consecutive years.
He was a longtime member of Timberlane Country Club, where he served as president in 1972. He also served several terms on the New Orleans Planning Commission and was its chairman in 1968. He was appointed to the Mayor's Mardi Gras Advisory Committee in 1993. He was a past chairman of the Louisiana chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Trinity Lutheran Church.
"I have great admiration for his brand of leadership," Clarkson said. "He led the Planning Commission when it was the ultimate in good city planning.
"He incorporated Algiers into the planning of the city," she said. "Before then, we were forgotten sometimes."
Clarkson also pointed to Mr. Dickey's leadership of Janus, a non-parading krewe, as important to the community life of Algiers. She said Mr. Dickey's creation of a formal ball for the Janus organization "brought Algiers into the mainstream of Mardi Gras."
He is survived by two sons, Stephen Donner Dickey and Charles E. Dickey III; two daughters, Ailie D. Kraemer of Waveland, Miss., and Elizabeth D. Hobbs; a brother, DuVal Dickey of Houston; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 620 Eliza St., Algiers. Visitation will be tonight beginning at 6 and Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home in Algiers. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery.
Walter Lewis Jr., 87, jazz, R&B; pianist

Walter J. Lewis Jr., a traditional-jazz and rhythm-and-blues pianist who worked for many years with Danny Barker's famed Jazz Hounds, died Monday at his home. He was 87. Mr. Lewis was born in Prairieville and lived in New Orleans for more than 80 years. He began studying music in elementary school and in his youth worked in the New Orleans red-light district with many other notable musicians. His professional career spanned 74 years and took him around the world, including several tours of Europe.
Mr. Lewis performed with the Henry Horton Band from 1939 to the late 1940s and with Sidney Desvigne, Paul Barbarin and Oscar "Papa" Celestin during the 1950s. As a piano player, he backed many national R&B; stars, including Ray Charles, Dinah Washington, Big Joe Turner, Guitar Slim and Earl King at New Orleans' famed Dew Drop Inn in the late 1950s and early ‘60s. His first job was with the Sidney Desvigne band in the 1930s.
Mr. Lewis also worked with musicians Louis Cottrell, Placide Adams and James Davis in the 1970s and 1980s. In addition to playing piano, he sang on occasion. In later years he backed traditional jazz banjoist, guitarist and singer Danny Barker, then continued as a member of Barker's Jazz Hounds after trumpeter Gregg Stafford took over the band, performing regularly at the Palm Court Jazz Cafe and Preservation Hall. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local Union No. 492 and was a former member of the Autocrat Club.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Ceaser of Lafayette and Benjamin Ceaser; three daughters, Joan Lewis Turner of Los Angeles, Pat Ceaser of Lafayette and Yvonne Ceaser; a brother, J.D. Lewis of Gonzales; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.
Hilda Lincoln, 87

Hilda Y. Lincoln, a retired New Orleans public school principal, died Friday at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 87.
Ms. Lincoln was born in Terrebonne Parish, in the village of Gray, and lived in New Orleans. She graduated from McDonogh No. 35 High School. She received a bachelor's degree from Dillard University, which later recognized her as a distinguished alumna, and a master's degree from Columbia University.
Her professional career began in Rayne when she was an elementary school teacher. Later she taught at Gaudet Normal School.
In New Orleans, she was a teacher at McDonogh No. 41 Elementary School and Joseph A. Craig Elementary, where she became principal. She also served as supervisor of the Teacher Corps, a program to train young servicemen to become certified elementary school teachers.
She retired from the school system after 35 years and became a supervisor of student teachers for Dillard University and Southern University at New Orleans.
Ms. Lincoln was a member of Tulane Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as superintendent of the Sunday school and director of Vacation Bible School, the Board of Christian Education and youth activities. She also belonged to the Sanctuary. She was a member of the Halcyons and Gentilly Mission Circle.
She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and for 50 years was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, which she served as a local and national president.
Survivors include two sisters, Louise Lincoln Hill of San Antonio and Annie B. Lincoln.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Tulane Memorial Baptist Church, 3601 Paris Ave. Visitation will be at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
WHITEHEAD, ALICE BOATWRIGHT

Alice Boatwright Whitehead, a homemaker and volunteer, died Sunday in Williamsburg, Va. She was 87. Mrs. Whitehead was born in Wilmington, N.C., and lived in New Orleans for many years until moving to Williamsburg. In New Orleans, she had been a member of many historical and charitable organizations. She was a board member of the National Society of Colonial Dames in Louisiana, a former president of the board of directors of St. Anna's Home, and a member of the Christian Women's Exchange and the Orleans Club. Survivors include a son, Allen H. Whitehead Jr.; a sister, Anne Humphrey of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held in Williamsburg at a later date. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Services is handling arrangements.
