Charles Conrad Schott, vice president of Schott and Co. for 39 years, died Saturday of cancer at his home. He was 75. Mr. Schott was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Tulane University. He was an employee at Radiofone for 12 years. He was a member of Holy Name Society of St. Louis King of France where he was a commentator and Eucharistic minister. He received the St. Louis Medal. He was a 30-year member of Archbishop Community Appeal, former president of the Louisiana State University Livestock Show, Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader and member of Knights of Columbus. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Carol Artigue Schott; four sons, Andrew, Donald, Peter and Edward Schott; three daughters, Brenda Rodehoist, Paula Culpepper and Laurie Stauder; four brothers, Leo, Frederick, Vincent and the Rev. James Schott; two sisters, Jane Becker and JoAnn Scholes; and six grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at St. Louis King of France, 1609 Carrollton Ave., Metairie. Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul No. 2.
WOODIEL, JOHN W. JR.

John W. Woodiel Jr., a Republican activist, died March 5 of cancer at his home. He was 76. Mr. Woodiel was born in Enola, Ark., and lived in Luling for 48 years. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry in 1949 from Arkansas State Teachers College. He was employed by Lion Oil/Monsanto for 21 years and retired from Woodiel Construction Co. Inc., which he founded in 1973. Mr. Woodiel organized the St. Charles Parish Republican Party in 1965 and served for many years as chairman of the parish Republican Executive Committee. He was elected in 1968 to the first of five terms representing St. Charles Parish on the Republican State Central Committee and worked on local, state and national Republican campaigns. He attended the 1984 Republican national convention as an alternate delegate and was a member of the Lafourche Basin Levee Commission from 1980 to 1984. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church and had been a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling. He served on the construction committees of both churches and was an usher at Holy Family. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Latinaires Dance Club. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Breyel Woodiel; two sons, John Woodiel III of Dallas and Christopher Davis Woodiel of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Deborah W. Spencer of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Syble Sims of Austin, Ark., and Betty Dodgen-Mundt of Sacramento, Calif.; six granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery in Luling. Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lionel Christopher Turner died March 13 of respiratory failure at Children's Hospital. He was 2. Lionel was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include his mother, Vernettia Lafiton; his stepmother, Sequeasia Turner; and a grandmother, Aldonia Lafiton. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Tilly's Funeral Home, 2831 St. Claude Ave. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be private.

William G. Lockett, a retired cook, died March 2 at Chalmette Medical Center of congestive heart failure. He was 73. Mr. Lockett was born in White Castle and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. Survivors include a sister, Velma Williams of White Castle. A private service was held. Littlejohn's Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Nicholas J. Caruso Sr., a retired business manager of TAC Amusement Co. for more than 40 years, died Sunday of congestive heart failure at his home. He was 79. Mr. Caruso was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 14 years. He graduated from S.J. Peters High School. He was a member of the Altar Boys Society of St. John the Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Caruso; three sons, Lester, Randy and Nick Caruso of Katy, Texas; two daughters, Kim Durr of Mandeville and Jean Bizette; a brother, Joe Caruso of New Orleans; a sister, Conchetta Giovingo; and 11 grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Ernest Taylor Jr., a retired laborer, died Feb. 27 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 85. Mr. Taylor was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with Company B of the 83rd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion. Survivors include his wife, Ethel James Taylor; two sons, Raymond and Ernest Taylor III; four daughters, Lorraine Stewart, Jacquelyn Dumas, Veola Ann Brooks and Aileen Van Meter; four stepsons, John, Ronald, Robert and Don James; a stepdaughter, Sylvia Martin; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Erica Michelle Grass, died Thursday of Reye's Syndrome at Chalmette Medical Center. She was 21. Miss Grass was born in Fort Knox, Ky., and lived in St. Bernard Parish for 21 years. Survivors include her father, Fredrick L. Grass; her mother, Joanna Tardo Grass; her grandfathers, Ernest L. Grass Sr. and Ronald S. Tardo; her grandmothers, Carolin Grass and Evelyn C. Tardo; and a sister, Lindsey Grass. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 815 Badger Drive in Arabi. Janie Inez Bowens Harrison, a retired food service worker for the Orleans Parish School Board, died Wednesday of congestive failure at Lakeland Medical Center. She was 63. Mrs. Harrison was born in Bladen County, N.C., and lived in Marrero for many years. Survivors include a son, Ernest Harrison Jr.; five daughters, Cecelia Ervin, Etachel Brown and Debra, Janie and Melissa Harrison; a sister, Meta Faye Ruffin, of Bladen County; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
