BIVENS, ISAAC H.

The Rev. Isaac H. Bivens, pastor of Boynton United Methodist Church for the past eight years, died Thursday of a heart attack at his home. he was 74. Dr. Bivens was born in Beverly, N.J., and lived in the New Orleans area for many years. He graduated from West Virginia State College and Boston University School of Theology. He received the Doctor of Divinity degree from Wiley College. He was an Associate Professor of Religion and Chaplain at Dillard University for 11 years. He served 14 years as the assistant general secretary for the Africa/Europe/Middle East region of the World Division of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. He was a founding member and board member of the TransAfrica organization. He served as dean of students for Mississippi State Valley College and Huston Tillotson College. He pastored churches in Sacramento, Calif., and New York City. Survivors include his wife, Sonia Hylton Bivens; three sons, Bernard, Martin and Jerome Bivens; three daughters, Sandra Bivens Anderson, April and Heather Bivens; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Dillard University Lawless Memorial Chapel, 2601 Gentilly Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MACKEY, HERBERT

Herbert Mackey, a retired truck driver, died Thursday at his home. He was 93. Mr. Mackey was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Tilly's Funeral Home, 2831 St. Claude Ave. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be private.

PERRY, GENEVA ‘JENNY'
04/08/02

Geneva "Jenny" Perry, a retired waitress at Pete's Restaurant, died Friday of cancer at her daughter's home. She was 78. Mrs. Perry was born in Lake Charles and lived in New Orleans for the past 65 years. She was employed by Maison Blanche for 40 years. She was a member of the Monday Night Fatima Rosary Group and the High Ballers Carnival Club. Survivors include a daughter, Darleen Perry Winchester; a brother, Robert Lisotta; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

ALIDOR, MARY MARGARITE
03/19/02

Mary Margaret Alidor, a homemaker, died Sunday at St. Tammany Hospital. She was 99. Mrs. Alidor was born in New Orleans and lived there for many years before moving to Mandeville five years ago. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Alidor Kornfield Sagona; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home, 1717 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery No. 1.

JONES, ROBERT JR.
03/26/02

Robert Jones Jr., a truck driver for Winn-Dixie in New Orleans, died Sunday of congestive heart failure at Earl K. Long Hospital. He was 55. Mr. Jones was born in Plaquemine and lived in Baton Rouge for the past four years. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He was a member of the New St. Mark Baptist Church in New Orleans. Survivors include his companion, April Lee of Baton Rouge; a son, Rodney Crosby of New Orleans; 11 daughters, Rosalind, Wanda, Rocetta, Rochell, Mary and Olivier Jones, Robin Hodges, and Kizzy and Zada Mullen, all of Baton Rouge, and Sahmika Jones and Monica Hawthorne, both of New Orleans; a stepson, Leo Turner of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Jessie Jones of Alabama and Herman Jones of New Orleans; four sisters, Doris Vickers, Beulah Edwards, Virginia Lewis and Geraldine Richardson, all of New Orleans; and 14 grandchildren. A memorial service was held Monday at Majestic Mortuary, 1833 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Burial was private.

LITTLE, ALMARIE PITTMAN
03/26/02

Almarie Pittman Little, a retired artist, died Friday at her home. She was 79. Mrs. Little was born in Wayne County, Miss., and lived in River Ridge for the past 37 years. Survivors include a son, Derek Adam Chandler; two daughters, Cheryl Dawn McDowell and Candace Eve Nicholson; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Park. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie.

HOOPER, LLOYD ‘MICKEY'
03/29/02

Lloyd "Mickey" Hooper, a truck driver with Haynes Freight Co., died March 22 of lung cancer at McGregor Jones Nursing Facility. He was 59. Mr. Hooper was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a former employee of Southern Eagle Sales, Dixie Brewery and Falstaff. He was a member of Mighty 14 Social and Pleasure Club. Survivors include his wife, Dianne H. Hooper; four sons, Toney Hooper of San Antonio, and Gregory, Matthew and Michael Hooper; three daughters, Margaret and Karen Hooper of Tylertown, Miss., and Jacqueline Jinks of Mobile, Ala.; his father, Daniel Hooper; a brother, Johnny Hooper; three sisters, Joann Hart of Syracuse, N.Y., Lena H. Thorton and Diane Lee; and 12 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will be at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.

HINTON, MARY J.
03/29/02

Mary J. Hinton, a domestic worker, died March 21 of heart failure at St. Charles General Hospital. She was 74. Mrs. Hinton was born in Aliceville, Ala., and lived in New Orleans for the past 41 years. She was a member of Gaza Missionary Baptist Church and Household of Ruth Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include a son, Robert Carpenter; three daughters, Cherokee J. Sincere, Mary H. Smith and Eulah Mims; a brother, Gus Jones; three sisters, Grace Brumfield, Betty Bonnier and Evelyn Evans; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Gaza Missionary Baptist Church, 7258 Ransom St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Littlejohn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Solomon Mahogany, a laborer, died Mar. 17 of heart failure at Earl K. Long Hospital. He was 52. Mr. Mahogany was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Karyn Mahogany; two daughters, Tina McCloud Herambe of Oakland, Calif., and Krissi Mahogany; his mother, Josephine Mahogany; five brothers, Richard Mahogany Sr., Allen, Walter, Malcolm and Brian Mahogany; two sisters, Linda Fox Gardner and Myra Ealy Wright; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Gaskin-Southall-Gordon & Gordon Mortuary, 1225 N. Rampart St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

LANE, RICHARD ‘MAIL MAN' ‘GIZ' ELLIS

Richard "Mail Man" "Giz" Ellis Lane, a retired mail carrier, died Sunday of lung cancer at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 70. Mr. Lane was born in Harvey and lived in New Orleans. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and Southern University. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of Evening Star Baptist Church, Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and past master of Degruy Lodge No. 7 F&AM; Prince Hall Affiliations. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Carter Lane; a son, Russell Lane; two daughters, Trina and Keisha Lane; a sister, Ruby Lane Lewis; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Evening Star Baptist Church, 817 Grefer Ave., Harvey. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale. Murray Henderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

KELLY, ANTHONY

Anthony Kelly, a student, died Saturday at Charity Hospital of injuries from a hit-and-run automobile accident. He was 9. Mr. Kelly was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Harriet Tubman Elementary School and Payne's Day Care Center. Survivors include his father, Anthony Gilbert Jr.; his mother, June Marie Kelly; his stepfather, Reginald Williams; two sisters, Bernadette Kelly and Reginisha Williams; and his grandparents, Albert and Marguerite Kelly. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Israelite Divine Spiritual Church, 3000 Frenchmen St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Dennis Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
