Edgar "Jack" Simmons, a retired automotive parts manager, died Friday at Chalmette Medical Center. He was 77. Mr. Simmons was born in Mississippi and lived in St. Bernard for the past 45 years. He was a master sergeant in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Mary Feduccia Simmons; two daughters, Grace S. Miller and Margaret S. Syrdal; three brothers, Henry G., Billy S. and Thomas G. Simmons; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon at St. Louise de Marillac Church, 6800 Patricia St., Arabi. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. POLO, BESSIE LUCILLE ‘BETTE' ALLEN

Bessie Lucille "Bette" Allen Polo, a homemaker, died Friday at Chalmette Medical Center. She was 85. Mrs. Polo was born in Lynville, Ky. She was a former resident of New Orleans and lived in St. Bernard Parish for the past 40 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chalmette and the Naomi Sunday School class. Survivors include a son, Arthur A. "Arty" Polo Jr.; two daughters, Betty Ann Carollo and Sondra Lea Paretti; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Vickers, Verrette and Dornan Funeral Home, 3027 Jean Lafitte Parkway in Chalmette. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
O'KEEFE, JAMES BERNARD

James Bernard O'Keefe, a retired sales representative with L.H. Hayward Co., died May 15 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Alexandria. He was 81. Mr. O'Keefe was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 39 years. He graduated from Jesuit High School. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a flight engineer on the China, Burma and India route. He was a pilot, a founding member of the St. Charles Aviation Association in Ama and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol. Survivors include his wife, Alice Bradfield O'Keefe. A graveside service was held May 23 at Mount Zion Private Cemetery in Longwood. Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Shreveport handled the arrangements.

Terrance Lamont Mason, a 7-month-old infant, died Wednesday of undetermined causes at University Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include his father, Terrance Lamont Jones; his mother, Tara Lynell Mason; two brothers, Horace and Tyree Mason; a sister, Raven Mason; his grandfather, Hurbert Mason; and his grandmothers, Dianne Mason and Brenda Jones. A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon at Heritage Funeral Directors, 4101 St. Claude Ave. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

Jessie Hills Sr., a longshoreman, died Wednesday of a heart attack at Charity Hospital. He was 81. Mr. Hills was born in Gheens and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. He was a deacon of First Emanuel Baptist Church. Survivors include six sons, Gary, Kenneth, Nathan, Tyrone, Michael and Jessie Hills Jr.; a sister, Mertha Hills; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at First Emanuel Baptist Church, 1829 Carondelet St. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in McDonoghville Cemetery. Lloyd J. Boquet, a plumber, died Thursday at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was 83. Mr. Boquet was born in Pointe-aux-Chenes and lived in Folsom for the past 16 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of St. John's Catholic Church in Folsom. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Affairs Post No. 07755 in Bourg and the American Legion Post No. 0272 in Montegut. Survivors include his wife, Lucena Naquin Boquet; a daughter, Pat Boquet; three stepsons, Butch, Barry and Carroll Naquin; a stepdaughter, Mercedes Chisholm; two brothers, Paul and Wilfred Boquet; two sisters, Marjorie Neal and Rena Lasseigne; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Pointe-aux-Chenes. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 10 p.m. at Pointe-aux-Chenes Fire Station. John Anderson III, a jeweler, died May 23 of a heart attack in Las Vegas. He was 46. Mr. Anderson was born in New Orleans and lived in Riverside, Calif., for 15 years. Survivors include two sons, Jela and John Anderson IV; a daughter, Janéa Anderson; his father, John Anderson Jr.; his mother, Joyce Murray; four brothers, Terance, Lance, Kermith and Kevin Anderson; and two sisters, Rhonda Anderson and Debra Anderson-Goins. Yvonne S. Withers, a telephone operator, died May 17 of colon cancer at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 52. Mrs. Withers was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie. Mary Kay Wight, a homemaker, died Wednesday of breast cancer at her home. She was 62. Mrs. Wight was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and lived in Metairie for the past 27 years. She graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of The Retired Officers Association, and she volunteered for membership drives at WYES-TV. She was an active member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church. Survivors include her husband, Bill Wight; a daughter, Suzanna Wight; her mother, Tillie Worden; two brothers, John and Thomas Worden; and a sister, Sister Judith Worden.
