Alice Boatwright Whitehead, a homemaker and volunteer, died Sunday in Williamsburg, Va. She was 87. Mrs. Whitehead was born in Wilmington, N.C., and lived in New Orleans for many years until moving to Williamsburg. In New Orleans, she had been a member of many historical and charitable organizations. She was a board member of the National Society of Colonial Dames in Louisiana, a former president of the board of directors of St. Anna's Home, and a member of the Christian Women's Exchange and the Orleans Club. Survivors include a son, Allen H. Whitehead Jr.; a sister, Anne Humphrey of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held in Williamsburg at a later date. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Services is handling arrangements.
OLIVER, EDWARD

Edward Oliver, a self-employed gardener, died May 25 at his home. He was 85. Mr. Oliver was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include three sons, Edward, Thaddeus and Mitchell Oliver; a daughter, Patricia Oliver; a stepson, Joseph Fobbs; two sisters, Helen Alexander of Chicago and Ida O. Moses; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held today at noon at Boissiere-Labat Family Funeral Services, 1703 N. Claiborne Ave. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
MARINO, JEANNETTE SANTOPADRE

Jeannette Santopadre Marino, a retired purchasing agent for the federal government, died Wednesday of a stroke at Forest Manor Nursing Home. She was 84. Mrs. Marino was born in Houston, lived in New Orleans for 61 years and lived on the north shore for 23 years. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Ann Michel; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
KAPLAN, JOSÉ

José Kaplan, a retired architect and art dealer, died Monday in North Hampton, Mass. He was 92. Mr. Kaplan was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and lived in New Orleans for 15 years before moving to North Hampton. He graduated from the University of Cordoba with a degree in architecture. He built schools and other facilities in the southern part of Argentina. He also was an architect in Puerto Rico before retiring and moving to New Orleans, where he opened and managed an art shop. Survivors include his wife, Olga Pera; a daughter, Marina Esther Kaplan; two sons, Roberto Argentino Kaplan and Julio Argentino Kaplan; and two grandchildren. Services will be private.

Lawrence W. Jackson, a retired bookkeeper, died Wednesday at Memorial Medical Center. He was 79. Mr. Jackson was born in New Orleans and lived in Belle Chasse for the past 33 years. He was the recipient of the Senior Citizen Award from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the St. Louis Medallion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Past Grand Knight Council No. 6357 and Past Faithful Navigator of T.J. Larkin Assembly. Survivors include his wife, Marie Lumpkin Jackson; and two grandchildren . A Mass will be said today at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8968 Louisiana 23, Belle Chasse. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Burial will be in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery.

Roderick R. Holley Sr. died Thursday of cardiac arrest at Charity Hospital. He was 44. Mr. Holley was born in New Orleans and lived in Chalmette for the past 38 years. Survivors include a son, Roderick R. Holley Jr.; his mother, Betty F. Holley; a brother, Alvin W. Holley Jr.; three sisters, Karen H. Barrilleaux, Annette H. Cauthen and Jeannette H. Terhark; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at Dunn's Funeral Services, 7701 W. St. Bernard Highway, Arabi. J.L. Hall, a retired truck driver, died Tuesday of cancer at his home. He was 72. Mr. Hall was born in Fulton, Ky., and lived in Robert for many years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include a son, Gary D. Hall of Fulton; a stepson, Doug Drane of Jacksonville, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Sue Anderson of Danville, Ill., and Debbie Bettis of Lawton, Okla.; two sisters, Willodean Gunther of Nicholson, Miss., and Betty Stafford of Memphis, Tenn.; a grandchild; and many stepgrandchildren. A funeral was held Friday at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans.

James Foster Etienne Sr., a retired employee of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, died Tuesday at Touro Infirmary Hospital. He was 88. Mr. Etienne was born in Baldwin and lived in New Orleans for the past 67 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and the AFL-CIO. He was an Army veteran and received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Star and the American Defense Service Medal. Survivors include three sons, Richard J. Johnson and Paul C. and James F. Etienne Jr.; three daughters, Sandra E. Banks, Constance E. Scieneaux and Ada E. Tedford; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Edward Joseph "E.J." Ellis, a sales executive for Acme Paper Box Co., died Thursday of heart failure at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was 66. Mr. Ellis was born in New Orleans and lived in Lacombe for the past eight years. He was a past employee of Pelican Electronics, where he was a sales executive for 26 years, and John Brown Olds, where he was a fleet service manager. He served with the military police in the Army National Guard. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Margaret Calderone Ellis; two daughters, Kathy Ann Ellis Mullet and Debra Ann Ellis Guelfo; a brother, Warren Ellis; a sister, Mary Ann Ellis; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
