John Reed Jr., a retired truck driver, died Monday of a heart attack at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 52. Mr. Reed was born in New Orleans and lived in Avondale for 32 years. He graduated from Carver High School. He was an Army veteran. He was the head deacon at Holy Ghost Temple. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia L. Reed; a stepdaughter, Tamika I. Davis; his mother, Dorothy L. Reed; his grandmother, Janie Thompson; four brothers, Alfred, Larry, Sandford and Steven Reed; and three sisters, Joan R. Bolds, Janice R. Jamison and Charlene R. James. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Davis Mortuary Service, 6820 West Bank Expressway, Marrero. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Green Street Cemetery.

PROZE, DELTA

Delta Proze, a homemaker, died Wednesday of cancer in Ocean Springs, Miss. She was 65. Mrs. Proze was born in Bay St. Louis, Miss., and lived in Kenner for 42 years. Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Proze; two daughters, Pamela Alvendia and Melissa Matthews; two brothers, Jeff and Eugene Garcia; three sisters, Wilma Musser, Rosemary Necaise and Dolores Sherman; and four grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at noon at Nativity Of Our Lord Catholic Church, 3325 Loyola Ave., Kenner. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery. United Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

MEHL, ROBERT W.

Robert W. Mehl, a retired self-employed brick mason, died Tuesday of lung cancer at his home. He was 74. Mr. Mehl was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, and lived in Louisiana for 40 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Rose Baptist Church and American Legion Post 0258 in Springfield, La. Survivors include a son, Robert L. Mehl of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Ann Nelson of St. Amant, Ellen Rebowe of St. Rose, Janice Kaliszeski of Belle Chasse and Debra Rodriguez of Atlanta; 17 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Baptist Church, 627 St. Rose Ave., St. Rose. Visitation will be today from 8 to 10 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

McLELLAN, ELIZABETH ‘BETSY' SHIVELY

Elizabeth "Betsy" Shively McLellan, a homemaker, died Wednesday of cancer at Harahan Guest House. She was 84. Mrs. McLellan was born in Galveston, Texas, and lived in New Orleans for the past 59 years. She was a graduate of Newcomb College in New Orleans and San Jaunico High School in Houston. She was a member of St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was a Navy veteran. Survivors include a son, James S. McLellan; a daughter, Jeanne S. McLellan; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at St. Charles Presbyterian Church, 1545 State St. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LONDON, STANLEY SR.

Stanley London Sr., a mason, died Thursday of a heart attack at his home. He was 70. Mr. London was born in New Orleans and lived in St. Rose for 31 years. Survivors include his wife, Marion Davis; eight sons, Stanley Jr., Bobbie, Kenneth, Gregory, Wilfred, Duvell and Darren London and Michael Sterling; three daughters, Burnadette Jefferson, Loretta Robinson and Valerie London; his father, Clarence London; his mother, Perine Brown; 50 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren, A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Richardson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

LEWIS, CLARENCE MARK SR.

Clarence Mark Lewis Sr., a courier for a mechanic shop, died Thursday at Charity Hospital. He was 84. Mr. Lewis was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Carrie Watson Lewis; a son, Terry Morris; two daughters, Gloria Lewis and Eula B. Lewis; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at McMahon-Coburn-Briede Funeral Home, 600 Moss St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park Cemetery.

LeBLANC, SYLVIA WISNER

Sylvia Wisner LeBlanc, a retired seamstress, died Wednesday of complications of diabetes at Metropolitan Hospice. She was 89. Mrs. LeBlanc was born in Woodville, Miss., and lived in New Orleans and, for the past 20 years, in Lacombe. Survivors include a son, Irvin P. LeBlanc; three daughters, Josephine Lupo Mouledous, Jonelle LeBlanc Foltz and Karen LeBlanc Castjohn; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 1 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

LeBEOUF, CAROLYN JOSEPH

Carolyn Joseph LeBeouf, a former teacher with the St. James Parish school system, died of cancer in Baltimore, Md. She was 54. Mrs. LeBeouf was born in St. James and lived in Maryland for the past five years. Survivors include her husband, Larry LeBeouf Sr.; a daughter, Bianda LeBeouf Smith; two sons, Murry and Larry LeBeouf Jr.; her mother, Doris Joseph; three brothers, Earl, Ronald and Philip Joseph; and three sisters, Sylvia Joseph, Oneida Swain and Julie Tickles. A Mass will be said Saturday at noon at St. James Catholic Church, 6613 Louisiana 18, St. James. The rosary will be said at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roger Lee Lawson Sr., a self-employed disc jockey and owner of Rockin' Bob Lounge, died Sunday of heart failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 57. Mr. Lawson was born in Utica, Miss., and lived in Marrero for 35 years. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Lawson; a son, Roger Lee Lawson Jr.; two daughters, Bridget Ann Nicole Lawson and Shannon Danell Lawson; three brothers, Percy Lawson, George Lawson and Tommie Lawson; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 7 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, 1131 Garden Road, Marrero. Dismissal will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at White Oak Missionary Baptist Church, Carpenter, Miss. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Davis Mortuary Service is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Lee Thomas Jackson, a homemaker, died Monday of a liver infection at University Hospital. She was 72. Mrs. Jackson was born in Alexandria and lived in New Orleans for the past 70 years. Survivors include her son, Clyde Thomas; three sisters, Emma Lee Green, Delores Lewis and Delores Buggage; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

HONORE, PLACIDE LUKE

Placide Luke Honore, a disabled veteran, died Tuesday of a heart attack at his home. He was 53. Mr. Honore was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Carver Senior High School and attended Southern University at New Orleans. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Claver Church. Survivors include a son, Brian Alexander Honore; four brothers, Peter, Garry, Vincent and Darrell Honore; seven sisters, Bernice Hardester, Michele Hubbard and Marie, Margurite , Marsha, Vanessa and Tammy Honore. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Majestic Mortuary Service, 1833 Oretha C. Haley Blvd. Burial will be private.

HOLLOWAY, WILLIAM LOWDEN

William Lowden Holloway, a retired consulting geophysicist, died Tuesday of complications from Alzheimer's disease at LA War Veterans Home in Jackson. He was 78. Mr. Holloway was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and lived in Covington for the past 32 years. He graduated from Cornell University. He served as a captain in the Army Air Corps, in which he was a four-year navigator of the B-24 Liberator Bomber and was missing in action for six months. He received the Air and Caterpillar Club medals. He was a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Survivors include his wife, Ann Marie Holloway; two sons, William Bernard Holloway of Oklahoma City and Peter Lowden Holloway of Edmond, Okla.; two daughters, Susan Marie Grisso of Norman, Okla., and Margaret Ann Holloway of Sarasota, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New Hampshire St., Covington. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will be private. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GIRTLEY, LEROY JESSIE

Leroy Jessie Girtley, a retired general laborer, died Tuesday of cancer at his home. He was 81. Mr. Girtley was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for many years. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Margie Girtley; five sons, Eric, Kenneth and Leroy J. Girtley Jr., and Cordell Dunn and Amos McKnight; eight daughters, Catherine Garcia, Claudia Martin, Diane Kents, Lillie R. Fortune, Jannifer Girtley, Freda Pelcean, Contrina Thomas and Vanessa Dunn; 35 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at noon at Oakland Baptist Church, 1400 Third St., Kenner. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Belle Grove Cemetery. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
