EVERFIELD, DANNY LEE

Danny Lee Everfield, a foreman with Grey Construction, died Monday of a heart attack at Mercy Hospital. He was 43. Mr. Everfield was born in Lake Providence and lived in New Orleans for the past 29 years. He attended John McDonogh High School. He was formerly employed with Liuzza Restaurant. Survivors include his companion, Gloria Jackson; his father, Henry Everfield Jr.; his mother, Olantha Everfield; three brothers, James H., Will E. and Ron C. Everfield; a sister, Sandra F. Everfield; and his grandmother, Ida Lee Everfield. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 2428 Flood St. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Magee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FRANCOIS, AUDREY ‘BUTSY'

Audrey "Butsy" Francois, a homemaker, died May 31 of cancer at her home in Reserve. She was 76. Mrs. Francois was born in Mount Airy and lived in Reserve. She attended Beechgrove Baptist Church in Reserve. Survivors include her son, Bertrand Francois of Reserve; three sisters, Mable Wisham of Reserve, Mildred Gray of New Orleans and Marjorie Bardell of Mount Airy; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Beechgrove Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Bardell's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

DEGRUY, JOHN ‘BALOU' MILTON JR.

John "Balou" Milton DeGruy Jr., a retired private contractor and merchant seaman, died Monday of a heart attack in Los Angeles. He was 56. Mr. DeGruy was born in New Orleans and lived in Los Angeles for 20 years. He attended St. Augustine High School. He was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Nibley DeGruy; a son, John "Darren" DeGruy III of Seattle; a daughter, Debbie A. DeGruy-Gordon of New Orleans; his mother, Melba Tircuit DeGruy of New Orleans; four brothers, Michael, Terry, Glen and Gregory DeGruy, all of New Orleans; five sisters, Joan DeGruy-Heisser, Earline DeGruy-Skillman, Marlene DeGruy-Franklin, Kim DeGruy-Sherrod and Julie DeGruy-Gilyot; and five grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., with recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Majestic Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

DAMONTE, SYBLE INEZ TAYLOR

Syble Inez Taylor Damonte, a homemaker and Navy veteran, died May 30 at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 80. Mrs. Damonte was born in Oil City and lived in New Orleans for the past 57 years. She attended Centenary College in Shreveport. She was a specialist 3rd class in the Navy during WWII and was on the staff of Adm. Ernest at the Pentagon. She was one of the first enlistees in the Navy's WAVES for the Tri-State Squadron. She was a member of Munholland Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Lowell Taylor Damonte of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a daughter, Laura Elaine Damonte McDonald of Littleton, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Karen Damonte Pickren of Baton Rouge and Joan Damonte Adams; four brothers, William Garrett, Richard Samuel, Donald Eugene and Doyle Wayne Taylor; a sister, Maxine Taylor Webb; three grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and 19 step-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery.

CLARK, ELISE KENNA

Elise Kenna Clark, a retired teacher, died Sunday at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was 90. Mrs. Clark taught in Summit and Lacombe. She was born in Pike County, Miss., and lived in Arkansas, Summit and Slidell before settling in Lacombe. She was a member of Lacombe First Baptist Church. She is survived by a niece. A funeral will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Lacombe First Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit. Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, Miss., is in charge of arrangements.

CATHA, DONALD TROY

Donald Troy Catha, a welder with Textron Marine and Land Systems in New Orleans, died Sunday of undetermined causes at his home. He was 41. Mr. Catha was born in Port Sulphur and lived in St. Tammany Parish for 18 years, including the past six years in Folsom. Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Gittings Catha; two sons, Aaron and Donnie Catha; a daughter, Lindsey Catha; and a brother, Gerald Catha. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 1414 S. Tyler St., Covington.

CARUBBA, FRANK JOSEPH
06/08/01

Frank Joseph Carubba, a retired merchant seaman, died Thursday of leukemia at Doctors Hospital. He was 70. Mr. Carubba was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a Marine Corps corporal during the Korean War, and received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Medal. He was former chief engineer with Waterman Steamship Lines, and was a member of the Marine Engineers Benefit Association. Survivors include three sons, Frank, Tony and Michael Carubba; a daughter, Loreen Andert; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie.

BODENHEIMER, ELEANOR BECKETT

Eleanor Beckett Bodenheimer, a homemaker, died Monday at Covenant Nursing Home. She was 91. Mrs. Bodenheimer was born in New York and lived in New Orleans for the past 22 years. No services will be held.

BITTENBRING, DIXIE ARMS

Dixie Arms Bittenbring, a photographer, died Wednesday of heart failure at her home. She was 75. Mrs. Bittenbring was born in New Orleans and lived in Slidell. Survivors include two sons, Terry Lee and Albert Furman Bittenbring Jr.; a daughter, Dianne Marie Bittenbring Hughey; a brother, John P. Arms; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be private.

ANDERSON, ALFRED SR.

Alfred Anderson Sr., a retired operator from Shell Oil Co., died June 1 of complications from diabetes and kidney failure at Ochsner Hospital. He was 59. Mr. Anderson was a lifelong resident of Norco. He was a 1959 graduate of Bethune High School in Norco and was a former employee of the Kenner Police Department. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Anderson; a son, Alfred Anderson Jr; five daughters, Tressie Bailey of Kenner, Janice Watkins of LaPlace, Carol King, Alandra and Kawanda Anderson; four brothers, Henry Anderson of Destrehan, Vernon Anderson of LaPlace, John Anderson of Colorado and Gerald Anderson of LaPlace; two sisters, Jackie Foster of LaPlace and Brenetta Smith; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was the guardian of Brandielle Anderson. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church at 47 Cathey Street in Norco. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in St. Rose. Robottom Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Carter Anderson, a homemaker, died June 1 at Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport, Miss. She was 77. Mrs. Anderson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and its Friends of Charity Benevolent Association. Survivors include three sons, Walter, Larry and Curtis Anderson; two daughters, Patricia Dunning of Gulfport, Miss., and Cynthia Warner; five brothers, Noel Carter and Curtis, Lionel, Donald and Henry Price Jr.; six sisters, Beulah Duplessis, Edna Lloyd, Gertrude Yates, Ernestine Reed and Ruby and Emily Carter; 25 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 2836 Sullen Place, Algiers. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Friends of Charity Cemetery in Algiers.

UPSHAW, CHARLES JOSEPH JR.

Charles Joseph Upshaw Jr., a retired respiratory technician, died Thursday of cancer at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was 69. Mr. Upshaw was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended McDonogh No. 35 High School and Dillard University. He served in the Air Force for four years. Survivors include his wife, Katheryn L. Upshaw; four sons, Charles J. Upshaw III, Shaun P. Upshaw, Thomas Butler and Wilbur Upshaw; three daughters, Angel Upshaw Cornelius, Charlene E. Upshaw and Danna M. Landry; two sisters, Georgiana Upshaw Horn and Vivian Upshaw Washington; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Haven United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery.

Marion Prenger Thiele, a retired account clerk for Mercy Hospital, died Tuesday of cancer at her home. She was 71. Mrs. Thiele was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She worked for Mercy Hospital for 28 years. Survivors include two sons, John S. and Michael M. Thiele; three daughters, Susan T. McCarthy, Joni T. Rockwell and Jane T. Anderson; two sisters, Dorothy P. Clary and Sister Mary Margaret Prenger; and nine grandchildren. A Mass will be said Friday at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery.
