Nell Borskey Starkey

A resident of Port Allen, she died Sunday, July 14, 2013. She was 87 years old. A memorial service is scheduled at a later date. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Melancon, grandchildren, Sara Savoy and Kelly Verrett and husband, Brandon. A great grandson, Alex Verrett. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Debra S. Britt Lamar Efferson

Britt Lamar Efferson was born on November 14, 1988 and left us all too soon on Sunday, July 14, 2013 in an automobile accident. He was a happy, positive, sweet natured, lover of people. He attended Zachary High School and graduated Cum Laude in 2006. He received academic scholarships to Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond where he studied Physics and Math. He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved sports especially baseball and pool and was a huge fan of LSU and the New England Patriots. He is survived by his mom, Joy Efferson, his father, Brad Efferson, a brother, Beaux Efferson. Grandparents, Verlyn and Brenda Felps and Clare Efferson. Aunts and Uncles, Kathy and Craig Frisbe; Chris and Barbara Felps; Jay and Abba Felps, Darryl Efferson and Evelyn Flynn; and Vicki Allen. His beloved dog, Sable. Visiting will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 6pm until 9pm and Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 9am until service at 11am conducted by his uncle, Rev. Chris Felps. Burial will be in Naul Cemetery, Clinton. Pallbearers will be Beaux Efferson, Justin Efferson, Ethan Bridges, Adam Frisbe, Lance Felps, David Felps and Brent James.
Evelyn M. Tate
(December 12, 1925 - July 13, 2013)
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she died Saturday, July 13, 2013. She was retired from Dixon Correctional Institute with 20 years of service and was 87 years old. Visiting will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 9am until service at 12pm conducted by Rev. Basil Wicker. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. She is survived by her children, Ernest Tate and wife, Judy; James Tate and wife, Kathleen; Pat Gauthier and husband, Clifton; Debbie Curtis and husband, Glenn; and Roy Tate. A sister, Geraldine Smith and husband, Charlie. 10 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ernest Tate, grandson, Jeffery Scott Tate, parents, James and Mabel Morgan. 1 sister and 5 brothers.
Ray Fleming Kennedy

Ray Fleming Kennedy, 75, a resident of Zachary, LA, died on Sunday, July 7, 2013. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 11am until funeral services at 1pm, conducted by Dr. Reggie Bridges. Burial will be at Azalea Rest Cemetery. He is survived by his sister-in-law June H. Kennedy and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Iris Kennedy Pruyn and Lynn Kennedy Clark; three brothers, John L. Kennedy Jr., Robert Preston Kennedy, and Jimmy R. Kennedy; and his parents, John L. Kennedy Sr and Lulu Kennedy.
Michael Ray Smith "Mike"

Michael Smith died on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. He was 65 years old and a resident of St. Francisville. Visitation will be on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary from 11:00am until service time at 2:00pm, conducted by Dr. Reggie Bridges. Interment will be in Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law; John R. Smith Jr., & wife Sharon, 8 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam earning the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device. He loved music and playing the guitar.
Quincy Lee Hargis

Quincy Lee Hargis, 90, a resident of Baton Rouge, died on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. He was retired from the East Feliciana Parish School System. He was born in Pineville, LA. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 9:30am until funeral services at 11:30am, conducted by family friend Rev. Bart Bynum. He is survived by his three children: Sally Fleniken and her husband John Fleniken, David Hargis; and Janet Gernon and her husband Ray Gernon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Louise Burk Hargis. He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University where he earned a BA in music; and he received his Masters of Education from the LSU School Administration program. He also received additional graduate hours in School Supervision and Administration. He was a Band Leader, a Principal, and an Adult Education Supervisor. He enjoyed gardening, genealogy research, music, and travel. He was a past President of the Louisiana Historical and Genealogical Society and a church choir director. He also enjoyed spending time with his loving family. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, where he served from 1943-1946. Kaname Miho Dawson, a resident of Katy, TX, and a former resident of St. Francisville, LA, died on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at her home. She was the widow of the former chief of police in St. Francisville, Charles L. "Tut" Dawson, who died in 1991. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6pm until 8pm, and then on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church from 9am until funeral mass at 10am, conducted by Fr. Cary Bani. Burial will be with her husband at Port Hudson National Cemetery. She is survived by three sons: Chuck Dawson and his wife Lori of Delhi, LA; Troy Dawson and his wife Maureen of Brookshire, TX; Dale Dawson and his wife Glenna of St. Francisville; eleven grandchildren: Cory Dawson, Lauren Dawson, Drew Dawson, Emily Dawson, Elise Dawson Martinez, Chanell Dawson, Raechel Dawson, Ashton Dawson, Mary Dawson, David Dawson, and Bryan Dawson; and two great-grandsons, Adam and Nicolas Martinez. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. "Tut" Dawson, Sr. and her granddaughter, LaNai Dawson. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. She was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church in Katy, TX.
