Raymond M. Tyler
March 16, 1959 - May 4, 2012

The Lord took Raymond home at about 1 a.m. on Friday May 4, 2012. He is free from pain and with the Lord. He resided in New Roads, LA. Raymond was born in Shreveport, LA on March 16, 1959, son of Patricia M. Boyd of Jackson, LA and Robert R. Tyler of Shreveport, LA. He is survived by his step-father, Oliver W. Boyd of Jackson, LA; half-brothers, Neal R. Boyd of Hammond, LA and Jeffrey Boyd of Shreveport, LA and one half-sister, Connie Deeds of Shreveport, LA; former wife, Helena Tortorich-Reynolds of Ventress, LA; and special friend, Susan Tomlin of New Roads, LA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael R. Tyler; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Mary Rohan of Shreveport and paternal grandparents, William and Lula Tyler of Shreveport, LA. Raymond was employed at Feliciana Forensic Facility in Jackson, LA for twenty-four years in security. He was very much involved in the union at Forensic and spent time in promoting its cause for its members. Raymond was an avid runner, having won marathon races and continued to regularly run six miles just three weeks prior to his death. He excelled in playing the guitar and he and his friends played in bands throughout LA. Raymond graduated from Pearl High School in Pearl, MS and he attended Hinds Jr. College in Raymond, MS and LSU in Baton Rouge, LA where he made straight A's and was invited to be a member of the Honor Society. Raymond was an artist, creating beautiful work with oils and charcoal. He loved finding treasures in boutiques, yard sales and thrift stores. He was an avid reader and book and music collector. He will be missed by numerous friends who knew him and his warm smile and upbeat personality. He dearly loved his Lord, family and friends. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday May 7, 2012 at Second Baptist Church, 2822 Hwy 10, Jackson, LA. On Tuesday, May 8, 2012, visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, at which time the church service will begin followed by burial at the Second Baptist Church Cemetery in Jackson, LA. He touched so many lives; life will just not be the same without him.

Lafayette Williard Michael "Mike"
(June 26, 1922 - May 12, 2012)

Lafayette Williard Michael, 89, "Mike" to his friends, died on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at his home in Baton Rouge. He was retired, after working as a Master Electrician with Local 995. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 9am until services at 11:30am, conducted by Dr. Reggie Bridges. Burial will be in Port Hudson National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Barbara Michael; one daughter, Stella Brumley of Dalton, GA; three sons and their spouses: Steve Michael and his wife Travis Ann of Greenville, GA; John Michael and his wife Dorothy of Tunnel Hill, GA; Lafayette Michael and his wife Nancy of Orlando, FL; four step-sons: Randy Poole, Leslie Poole, David Poole, and Larry Poole; one sister, Martha Edna Michael Ridley; one sister-in-law Mary Sue Michael; one brother, Rev. Oscar Michael and his wife Betty Lynn; eight grandchildren: Wade Brumley, Nathan Hanslee, John Brent Michael, Butch Michael, Jason Lea Baggett, Samuel Michael, James Paul Michael, and Laura Rector; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Manson Michael and Vinnie Nuckles Michael, and three brothers, J.M. Michael Jr., Frank Michael, and A Michael and one sister Evelyn Michael Baxter. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a 12th Grade Mason, spent two years studying at Baptist College, and enjoyed his life's work.

A resident of Louisiana War Veterans Home, he died Monday, May 7, 2012. He was 87. Arrangements are pending with Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary.

Lea Fulton Hurst
January 12, 1918 - May 7, 2012

Lea Fulton Hurst, "Lea Esther", beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died on Monday, May 7, 2012 at his home in Felixville. He was 94 years old, a native of St. Helena Parish, and retired from timber, farm and cattle business. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Clear Creek United Methodist Church, 17887 Hwy. 432, Clinton, from 9:00am until service time at 11:30am, conducted by Pastor Ken Graham, assisted by Billy Andrews. Interment will be in Clear Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. He is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law; Dorothy Devall and Bonnie Scimeca & husband Frank, all of Clinton, 3 sons and 3 daughters-in-law; Roger Hurst & wife Linda Butler Hurst, Lea E. (Bill) Hurst & wife Pat Morris Hurst, Cliff Hurst & wife Bonnie O'Neill Hurst, all of Clinton, 12 grandchildren; John Hurst, Chris Hurst, Jeffrey Devall, Dennis Devall, Shannon Devall, Ashley Scimeca, Brian Hurst, Kelli Sterling, Kimberly Hurst, Billy Miller, Cliff Hurst II, Kaylea Hurst, and 15 great grandchildren; Kristen McDonald, Austin McDonald, Tyler Duncan, Madison Horne, Blake Devall, Blaire Devall, Bailey Devall, Brooke Devall, Hunter Devall, Taylor Hurst, Cade Hurst, Lexlea Sterling, John Austin Sterling, Kynslea Hurst, and Karsyn Hurst, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years; Hazel DeLee Hurst, son-in-law; Jerry Devall; a granddaughter; Carmen Scimeca Rochester, parents; Roan Lea Hurst & Clara Octavia Talbert Hurst, sisters; Lorena DeLee, Cornelia Bonds, Grace Strickland, Bessie Kennedy, Ruby Roberts and an infant sister; brothers; Bythel Hurst and 2 infant brothers. Pallbearers will be Cliff Hurst II, Brian Hurst, John Hurst, Shannon Devall, Jeffrey Devall, Tyler Duncan, Blake Devall, and Hunter Devall. Honorary pallbearers are Arnold DeLee, Joby Roberts, Talmadge Bunch, Donald Ray DeLee, Chris Hurst, Dennis Devall, Adam Sterling, Roy Schmidt, Bubby Jackson, Lane Dyess, Austin McDonald, Edward Chase DeLee, Jason Horne, Glen DeLee, Frank Scimeca, Billy Miller, and Billy Andrews. Memorial donations may be made to Clear Creek United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 148, Clinton, LA 70722. He was a life long member of Clear Creek United Methodist Church, a member of Woodmen of the World, and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Marjorie S. Roy "Margie"
(March 24, 1939 - May 8, 2012)

A retired executive secretary with the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board with 20 years of service, she died May 8, 2012 at Zachary Manor Nursing Home. She was 73 years old and a native of Wisner, LA. Visiting will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc in Zachary on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 6pm until 8pm and continues on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 8:30am until service at 10am conducted by Pastor Glen Miers. Burial will be at Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary. She is survived by a daughter, Louise Roy and a son, David Roy. Her mother, Marjorie Eloise Smith. Her sister Frances Girod and husband, Glenn. She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Cecil David Roy, Jr. and her father, Charles "Purser" Smith. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church.

Velma Jean Rhodus
(November 10, 1931 - May 9, 2012)

Velma Jean Rhodus, a resident of Zachary, LA, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at her home. Visitation will be at the Zachary United Methodist Church on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 6pm until 8pm and then on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 9am until services at 10am, conducted by Rev. Greg Davis. Burial will be in Azalea Rest Cemetery. She is survived by two sisters, Gladys Schmidt of Ocean Springs, MS; Mary Hammatt of Oakdale, LA; two brothers, Henry Baxter Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Zachary, LA; Kirk Baxter and his wife Glynda of Alice, TX; and three generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Fredericks. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Kirk Baxter, Kirk Hammatt, Robbie Schmidt, Ned Baxter, David Baxter, and Barry Baxter. She was a lifelong member of the Zachary United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zachary United Methodist Church, 4205 Church Street, Zachary, LA.

Delos Dempsey Miller
(October 23, 1933 - May 9, 2012)

A devoted husband and uncle, he died May 9, 2012. He was 78 years old and was retired from East Louisiana State Hospital with more than 30 years of service. He was a resident of Jackson and a native of Mt. Hermon, LA. Visiting will be at Trinity Baptist Church in Jackson on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 10 am until service at 11 am conducted by Rev. Roger Mitchell. Burial will be in Second Baptist Church Cemetery, Jackson. He is survived by a large extended family including nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews that he dearly loved. He is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Thelma Travis Miller, his parents, Charlie and Pearlie Miller, sister, Mary Eva Miller Guy; one brother, Nathan Earl Miller.

Ella Jeanette Brown Hughes
April 14, 1941 - May 9, 2012

Born April 14, 1941, in Liberty, Mississippi. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend went to be with our Lord Hughes, 'Maw-Maw' Ella Jeanette Brown on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. She was a resident of St. Francisville, Louisiana. She owned and operated Elm Park Restaurant & Catering for 21 years in St. Francisville, serving the best burgers in town and always serving and supporting her local community. She was "Maw-Maw" to all and treated everyone like family. Visitation will be on Monday, May 14, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Deborah & David Duvic, 5080 Audubon Lane, St. Francisville, LA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at First Baptist Church in St. Francisville, LA with visitation from 9:00 a.m until religious service at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Jesse Means officiating. Burial at Feliciana Cemetery immediately following. Survived by her loving husband of 54 years who in these last few short months of her illness took care of her with a love like no other, John A. "Paw-Paw" Hughes, Sr.; daughter and son-in-law, Chris Hughes Keene and Larry Keene of Zachary; son and daughter- in-law, John A. Hughes, Jr. and Patti Goodfellow Hughes; and daughter and son-in-law Deborah Hughes Duvic and David Duvic of St. Francisville; 12 grandchildren, Tracy Maxwell, Brad Maxwell, Jamie Coley, Jenny Marchand, Jack Maxwell, Kim Keene Sweet, William "Bill" Sweet, John Brandon Hughes, Leeann Rogers, Kailee Hughes, Hannah Dooley and Hunter Duvic; 16 great-grandchildren, Christopher Rogers, Blane Coley, Nicholas Kent, Olivia Kent, Blair Coley, Deanna Sweet, Danny Sweet, Haley Branton, Anna Grace Falgout, Kylie Thompson, Ella Rose Marchand, Anna Catherine Maxwell, Carter Maxwell, Caden Maxwell, Trey Maxwell, and Evalee Rogers; a brother George Wayne Brown of Baker; numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her mother and father Edna Mae Lilly Brown and Woodrow Wilson Brown and step-father James Aaron "Jack" Crosby; a sister, Edna Brown Matherne; two grandchildren, Stacy Maxwell Falgout and Micah Lee "Baby Micah" Dooley, Jr.; a niece, Melissa Ann Matherne. Pallbearers will be Jack Maxwell, John Brandon Hughes, Hunter Duvic, Christopher Rogers, Colton McNeal, Jerry Matherne and Jimmy Johnston-Parsley. Honorary Pallbearers are David Duvic, Larry Keene, Gabe Marchand, Justin Coley, Derrek Groan, J. Austin Daniel and David Daniel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Meagan Ash, or The Angelman Syndrome Foundation, 4255 Westbrook Drive, Suite 219, Aurora, IL 60504 in honor of Nicholas Fontenot. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Tim Lindsey for his love, patience and guidance throughout this time as well as to West Feliciana Parish Hospital and its entire staff for accommodating our many family members and friends and the love and compassion with which you took care of our Angel as she spent her last days there in your care. We could not have asked for more.
