Minnie "Sissy" Slack, 72

Minnie "Sissy" Slack, a homemaker who was formerly from Monroe, died Friday, January 30, 1998 in Vallejo, California.
Funeral: Monday, February 9, 1998 at the Union Valley Baptist Church.
Burial: Richwood Memorial Gardens.

Minnie "Sissy" Slack was born May 28, 1925 in Mangham, LA, to the late Dora Jones.
Out of the family of six children, Mother Slack was the youngest child.
Mother Slack accepted Christ at an early age.
On January 27, 1940, Mother Slack was married to the late Reverend Rufus Slack, Sr.
To that union ten children were born.
She united with the Baskin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Baskin, LA, where she served on the Mother's Board, Mission Circle and served as Sunday School treasurer.
After moving to Monroe, Louisiana, Mother Slack united with the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church on July 23, 1972, where she served on the Mission Circle and Deaconess Board.
She remained a loyal faithful member until she moved to Vallejo, California, in August of 1980.
Upon her arrival to Vallejo, Mother Slack joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
She served as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Naomi Missionary Circle, the Mothers board and the International Association of Minister's Wives and Minster's Widows.
She served faithfully until her death.
Being a loving and caring mother, Mother Slack devoted much of her time in volunteer work with the schools in the Monroe area.
She was a band mother at Richwood High School, an active member of the PTA, and was a member of the School site selection committee.
Mother Slack was also an active participant in various school fund raising events.
Her joys in life were her family, which she loved dearly.
Her passion was her love for flowers and gardening.
She leaves to mourn: five sons: Reverend Rufus Slack, Jr. and his wife Marie of Madison, Alabama, Daniel Otis Slack, Sr. and his wife Haturia Jay of Kennasaw, Georgia, Mr. Tyrone Powell Slack of San Bernardino, California, Mr. Jerry Louis Slack of Vallejo, California, and Mr. Timothy Rochell Slack and his wife Dietra of Castro Valley, California; five daughters: Mrs. Vario Marie Spears and her husband George of Barstow, California, Mrs. Hatress Virginia Harrison and her husband, Willie of Vallejo, California, Mrs. Robin Denise Crittenden and her husband Harry of Suisun City, California, and Mrs. Vickie Lynn Slack of Vallejo, California.

Olivia Starr of Monroe, a retired cafeteria worker, died Sunday, February 1, 1998.

Jamien (Jay) Artez Robinson, a student, died Friday, February 6, 1998.
Funeral: Friday February 13, 1998 at 11:00 a.m.
He was born to Ronald Roberson and Marlena Robinson in Monroe, Louisiana, on February 13, 1992.
He died on February 6, 1998 at the Glenwood Regional Medical Center's Pediatrics I.C.U.
Jay's life was full of quality.
He was brought up in the church all his life.
He was a active member of the young people's and childen's division at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church.
He was a joyful songbird in the Sunbeam and Youth choirs.
He always memorized his poems and speeches.
His greates accomplishment was winning a trophy at church for reading the most books during the summer vaction of 1997.
He attended Sunday School.
He loved to attend prayer services and Bible study with his T. Monica.
Jay was baptized in April 1997, at which time he experienced the joy and love of God.
Jay attended Head Start, Martin Luther King Elementary School and Martin Luther King Early Childhood Center.
He received many certificates.
Jay's smile, excitement, energy and voice will be greatly missed by all.
His survivors include: his mother, Marlena Robinson of Monroe, LA; his father, Ronald Roberson of Dallas, Texas; one sister BreMeshia J'Nae Robinson; one maternal grandfather, James A. Brown of Monroe, LA; one paternal grandmother, Glinda Roberson of Monroe, LA; one maternal great-grandmother, Annie B. Robinson of Monroe, LA; one paternal great-grandmother, Lola B. Robeson of Sterlington, LA; one maernal great-great-grandmother, Maggie Geams of Monroe, LA; six aunts, Faye R. Long of Huntsville, AL, Monica Robinson of Monroe, LA; Sharon Robinson of Palmdale, CA, Charlotte Taylor of Dallas, TX, DaNita Jones and Wanda Wright, both of Monroe, LA; one uncle, Donnell Taylor of Dallas, TX; 16 great-aunts; six great uncles; two godmothers, Monica Robinson and Patricia Reed of Arlington, TX; one godbrother, Antoine Johnson, Jr.; one godsister, Chastity Broughton and a host of relatives and friends.
