A resident of Plaquemine, he passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Our Lady Of The Lake Medical Center.
He was 56. Visiting at Pugh's Mortuary, 58233 Plaquemine Street on Friday, Jan. 18, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Visitation resumes Saturday Jan.19, at Hurst United Methodist Church, 58225 Court Street, Plaquemine, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Thomas Wesley.
Interment in Grace Memorial Park.
He is survived by three sisters, Emelda A. Jefferson (William), Mary A. Jackson (Lawrence) and Ronanita Elwood of Denver, Colorado; one aunt, Geneva Mills of Denver, Colorado, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Celeste Thomas and Emile Ambrose.

Janice Delanoix Barbay
Janice Delanoix Barbay 76, a resident of Denham Springs, and a native of Baton Rouge, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Carpenter House. Janice was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved to quilt and spend her free time at the local Council on Aging. She is survived by daughters Cheryl Barbay Derfun (Gary), Monica Barbay Abshire, Jamie Barbay Scharlau (Alvin) and Christy Barbay Cook (Scott); brothers Albert Delanoix, Ernest Delanoix and Maurice Delanoix. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Albert Earl Delanoix, mother Marie Henry Delanoix, daughter Kim Barbay Williams and sister Dorothy Templet. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Resthaven Funeral Home, Baton Rouge from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday January 16, 2013 from 9:00 am until funeral services at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Evelyn Brister Baugher
A retired proof reader for the Morning Advocate in 1982 and a former resident and native of Brookhaven, Miss., she passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013. She was 85, born Oct. 8, 1927, the daughter of the late Sam M. and Lula Bell Glover Brister. She resided with her daughters in St. Amant, and Maryville, Tenn., and was a member of the Church of Christ Faith. Survived by her daughters, Sheryll Thompson and husband, George, Maryville, and Ann Cheveallier, St. Amant; sister, Orie Scroggins; grandchildren, Kieffer Bailey, and Carrie Palmer and husband, Paul; great-great-grandchildren, Eddie Bailey and Laura Palmer; and two special friends, Sharon Villar, and special thanks to Dr. Gene Thompson. Preceded in death by first husband, Clarence Earl Thornton; husband, William Baugher; parents; nine brothers and sisters. Visiting at Riverwood Family Funeral Service chapel, Brookhaven, on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral service at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. Burial in Riverwood Memorial Park. She was an avid gardener, loved flowers and fishing. She also loved spending time with family, friends, her dog and cat. She was a wonderful mother and friend who will be dearly missed.
Patrick A. "Pops" Brown, Sr.
A resident and native of Plaquemine, he passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his residence. He was 85 and a US Navy Veteran. He was a retired Chief of Weight and Standards for the State of Louisiana DOTD. A memorial mass will be scheduled at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florette "Flo" Fillastre Brown; two sons, Patrick A. Brown, Jr. and wife, Janis and Quintin M. Brown; one sister, Malvina "Tidda" Brown Roberts and husband, Floyd; one brother, J.C. Brown, Jr.; four grandchildren Derek P. Brown and wife, Angie, Quintin "Matt" Brown and wife, Brandy, Priscilla M. Brown and Clayton J. Brown and wife, Jessica; seven great-grandchildren Braiden P., Kaylee, Màkayla, Matisyn, Brooklyn, Phoenix and Alina Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Malvina Jumonville Brown; Father, J.C. Brown, Sr. and sister-in-law, Carol Brown. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and friend who loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a life long member of the American Legion, Plaquemine. Curtis James Caldarera, Sr.
Known as a charitable, faithful, hard-working, and loving person, the beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, Curtis James Caldarera, Sr., 80, was welcomed into the gates of heaven on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. He was a native of Gramercy and resident of Lutcher, Louisiana. Curtis attended Lutcher High School from 1948 through 1952 where he played quarterback for the football team and catcher for the baseball team. He was a member of the 1951 LHS Class "A" Baseball State Champs. For 10 years, Curtis was a member of the Lutcher Cardinals Semi-pro Baseball Team. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was awarded National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal in Germany. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1817, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree. Due to his love for his community and sports, Curtis was one of the early organizers for the little league baseball and football programs in the Lutcher area. For 30 years, Curtis was a Lutcher High School Quarterback Club member. He was the originator and leader of the Cadillac Ball for Lutcher High School Athletics in the late 70's and a charter member to the LHS Dugout Club. For 34 years, Curtis was an employee of Shell Chemical in Norco, LA. After his retirement, he continued to be actively involved with the Lutcher High School booster clubs and continued to give of his time to support all sports programs for the LHS Bulldogs. He was known for the creation of the original model bonfires representing the St. James Parish Christmas Eve Tradition. Curtis also loved the game of golf and was a member of Riverlands Country Club where he is remembered for having a "Double Eagle" on Hole No. 3 - 486 yards. Curtis enjoyed serving his Lord and his community. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society for 25+ years, served as Eucharistic Minister for St. Joseph Church, and was a Perpetual Adorer for the Adoration Chapel in Lutcher, LA. A man who lived by faith, loved people, his community and sports, but most of all, loved God, his family, and life will forever be in the hearts of many. Survivors include his devoted wife of 56 years, Barbara Matherne Caldarera, sons, Curtis Caldarera, Jr. and wife, Kim, Chris Caldarera and wife, Dana, daughters Vanessa Roussel and husband, Ronald "Toodie," Greta Nassar and husband, George, and Mary Beth Merrill and husband, Carter; two brothers, John Caldarera, Jr. and wife, Rosemary, Glenn Caldarera and wife, Linda; two sisters, Joyce Bourgeois and her husband, the late Edmond Bourgeois, Letitia "Letty" Richard and husband, Dwain; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Caldarera, Sr. and Letitia Schexnayder Caldarera; siblings, Joseph "Buster" Caldarera and wife, Virginia, Louis Caldarera, Sr. and wife, Laurence, Noella C. JESSE EAVES
Jesse Scott 'Scotty' Eaves, a resident of Denham Springs, passed away at the age of 82 on Monday, November 21, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. "You only get one chance to do it right the first time" – Jesse Scott Eaves. Today, he was released from this world to begin his next journey. He definitely got it right the first time. Jesse Scott Eaves was born August 25, 1940 to Kate and Carl Eaves. He was a 1958 graduate of Denham Springs High School. Upon graduation he proudly served aboard the USS Platte, a refueling ship serving the Pacific fleet from 1958-1962, where he began a lifelong love and knowledge of fancy rope and knot work. Scotty, aka 'The Knot Man', became one of the most renowned experts in this unique art form. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned home to Denham Springs, married Betty Ann Rushing, and began working for Coco Laminating where he discovered a unique talent for woodworking. After leaving Coco Laminating, he had a long career with Ethyl Corporation, then briefly worked at Southern Laminating, and finished his career at the USS Kidd. Along the way, Scotty built his own home (from construction to furniture) and served as Lecter at St. Williams Catholic Church in Port Vincent, for many years. He gave countless volunteer hours to the USS Kidd and helped innumerable people with their personal projects; he was always giving his time and talent to others. Scotty is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Betty Ann Rushing Eaves; his daughter Valarie Eaves-Baker and husband, Jason; his son, Jim Eaves and wife, Vickie; his youngest daughter Lara Eaves Hutchinson and husband, Brian; his grandchildren: Sara-Ann Pierson, Seth-Lee Langley and wife, Destiny, Jason Paul Baker and wife, Billie, Jon-Clark Baker, Ashleigh Eaves, Gabrielle Eaves-Hull and husband, Michael, Courtney Hutchinson, Joshua Hutchinson; and great-grandchildren: Ada, Auden, Dallas, Kinleigh, Jaxon, Georgia, and Wyatt. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Sarah Kate Davis Eaves; his siblings: Joe, Merlin, Royce, and Oris Eaves; and his best friend Vernon Andrews. Scotty's greatest loves were his wife, Betty Ann, his children and grandchildren, fancy ropework, classical music, books, the USS Kidd, and the sea. He was truly one of a kind and sacrificed much for his family. His knowledge and craftmanship will never be matched. He is loved dearly and will be missed forever by those whose lives he touched. ADAMS, DR. SAM
Died at the age of 85 on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. A native of Webster County, Miss., he was born March 14, 1916, the son of Sam F. Adams and Addie Eidson Adams. Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dr. Grace Boudreaux Adams; two brothers, Josh Adams and W.J. Adams; and two sisters, Ruth Wilson and Elia Stallings. He leaves his wife, Guillot Adams of Baton Rouge; and a daughter, Carolyn Adams of Newport News, Va. He was a veteran of World War II. He graduated from Delta State University in 1936 and received a master’s degree in 1940, and a Ph.D. in education in 1951 from LSU. For three years, he was a research physicist at the federal laboratories in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He was a professor in the education department at LSU for 31 years from 1954 to 1985, when he retired as an alumni professor of education. He wrote many educational textbooks and articles for professional journals. His latest book, "People, Places, and Things," is a collection of short articles depicting the lives of ordinary people. Many of the stories are taken from his youth in rural Mississippi. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. A child-care provider and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Earl K. Long Medical Center. She was 62 and a native of Jackson, Miss. A cosmetologist and a resident of Gonzales, she died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at her residence.
She was 77 and a native of Cornerview.
