CHAPMAN, SR. DAVIS DONALD "D.D." "CHIPPY"
"The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Psalm 23. D.D. "Chippy" Chapman passed away from this world peacefully at his home at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002. He was 88, born Jan. 16, 1914, in Bunkie, where he resided before moving to Baton Rouge in 1943. He had been a loving husband, wonderful and dedicated father, an uplifting stepfather and a dear Paw Paw to us all throughout his marriages of over 60 years. He retired from Exxon Refinery Mechanical Division with 34 years of service, where he developed many longtime relationships. As a resident of the Central community, he helped to start athletic programs at Central High School. He supported them over many years by announcing the play by play at Central High School football games for more than 30 years. He was later inducted into the Central High School Hall of Fame for his dedication, where he was nicknamed, "Mr. Pressbox." "Chippy," as known to those who knew and loved him, was one of the last living early members of Magnolia United Methodist Church, a church dear to his heart, where he actively and joyfully participated in administrative and building activities. After retirement, he became active with the Exxon Annuitant Club (Piney Woods Annuitant Club) in which he held the position of president for more than seven years until his health would no longer allow. There were many special people over the years who touched his life, including his loving family, members of his church and the Piney Woods Annuitant Club. It was said that he never met a stranger. He will be sadly missed. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
