She was very active in the Baker Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder for many years. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority while at LSU. A homemaker and resident of Denham Springs, she died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Denham Springs. She was 75 and a native of Natchitoches. She loved to crochet and create decorative artistic eggs in her spare time. Graveside service in Bellwood Cemetery, Bellwood, at 11 a.m. Friday. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Philip Herbert Quinn of Denham Springs; a daughter, Kathryn Quinn Normand McBee; a son, Steven Patrick Quinn; four grandchildren, Janice Normand Draper, Jill Normand Hartman, James Normand, Jr. and Kyle A. Quinn; and eight great-grandchildren, Jared Draper, Candice Draper, Derick Draper, Allisa Draper, Jed Hartman, Jacob Hartman, John Hartman, Jr. and Jade Hartman. A cosmetologist and trainer, he died of a heart attack at his home on Friday, Oct. 25, 2002. He was 47, a native of New Orleans, and lifelong resident of the New Orleans area. SILVER, WALTER HENRY "WALT"
A retired engineer for Exxon with 50 years of service, he passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at his residence. He was 85, a native of Philadelphia and resident of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne, and jumped on D-Day at Normandy Beach, Operation Market Garden in Holland and the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the Selective Service System Reserve as a full colonel. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Religious service in Greenoaks Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Carol Winn Crawford. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 1/2 years, Janice Cox "Jan" Silver of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Karen Silver Holton of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Karie and Melanie Holton of Baton Rouge; a brother, Edward J. Silver and wife, Edna of Radnor, Pa.; two nieces; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Priscilla Simoska Silver. He was a member of the 508th PIR Association, Military Order of the World Wars and the American Legion. He was also very active in the Council on Aging and was an avid tennis player. He was an alumni of Drexel University, Virginia Tech and LSU.
