ROY, JR. JOSEPH VICTOR "J.V."

Retired director of engineering with 35 years of service at Copolymer Rubber and Chemical Corp., he passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 22, 1925, in Baton Rouge, where he was a lifelong resident. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Glenda Montgomery Roy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Thomas Holden and Teri and Keith Copponex; four grandchildren, Scott and Blaire Holden and Keri and Drew Copponex; and a sister, Mary Lou Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph V. Roy, Sr. and Claudia LeBlanc Roy. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Visiting at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until religious service at noon Monday. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Thomas Holden, Scott Holden, Keith Copponex, Drew Copponex, Bill Presley, Bruce Silva, Floyd Toups and Herb Harthcock. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Keith DeMarco, Ray Loup, Andy Johnson, Blaise Carriere, Mike Cullen, John Hancock, Orville Howes and Wendell Shiflett. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Heart medals. He was a member of the 4099th Station Complement Reserve Unit in Baton Rouge and retired as captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a graduate of Catholic High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from LSU. He was a member of the Military Order of the World Wars, Louisiana Engineering Society, Baton Rouge Electrical League, Sherwood Forest Country Club and Catholic High Men's Club. The family would especially like to thank the caring staff of St. Joseph Hospice and the 4th Floor oncology unit at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic High School General Scholarship Fund, 855 Hearthstone Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70806 or St. Joseph Hospice, 5215 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. He will be remembered for his love for the game of golf and the friendships and travels associated with it. His greatest pleasure in life was providing for his family and grandchildren. All who loved him will treasure special memories of his wisdom and wit.

SCARDINA, LENA MONACHELLO

A homemaker and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 91 and a native of Brittany. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Miles D. Walsh, the Rev. Tom Duhé, the Rev. Cleo J. Milano and Deacon Phil BeJeaux. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by four daughters and a son-in-law, Gloria Denicola, Zachary, Rita and Louis Neck, and Mary Lynn and Jackie Scardina, all of Baton Rouge; a son and daughter-in-law, A.J. and Nettie Scardina, Greenwell Springs; a sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Lawrence Messina, Baton Rouge; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jack A. Scardina, an infant granddaughter and grandson, parents, three brothers and two sisters. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer is Dale Cryer. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Adoration Chapel. Her family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Bunny Jo Hill, a loving caregiver, Ludie Patin, and the staff of Six North at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

SCHULZE, NELL G.

A native of Bossier City, and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she passed away at 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at her home. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Religious service at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Stephen Springer. Survived by her husband, Richard H. Schulze; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard H. Schulze, Jr. and Vivian Schulze; a son, James Schulze; two granddaughters, Kimberly and Allison Schulze; two brothers, six sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gould. Nell was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Baton Rouge chapter. Her faith in God provided peace, comfort and assurance of eternal life during her last days. Nell was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 3555 Jones Creek Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the church she attended. The family would like to give thanks for the prayers and kind support of many friends. A note of thanks to Dr. Gerald Miletello and staff, Hospice of Baton Rouge and a special caregiver, Mary Ambeau.

WATSON, SR. ALVIN "TODDIE"

A resident of Baton Rouge, he died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at his home. He was 46 and a native of Livonia. Visiting at A. Wesley Funeral Home, 10810 Ventress Drive, Maringouin, 225-625-2383, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Visiting at Little Zion Baptist Church, Livonia, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by Elder James Grayson. Interment in Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery, Lottie. Survived by his wife, Alfreda Watson, Baton Rouge; father, Sampson Watson, Jr., Maringouin; two daughters, Angelia and Alecia Watson, both of Baton Rouge; a son, Alvin Watson, Jr., Baton Rouge; two sisters, Florida Mullins, Port Arthur, Texas, and Eva M. Guillot, Beaumont, Texas; six brothers, Lionel Watson, Lottie, Elton Watson, Carl Watson and Wayne Watson, all of Port Arthur, Henry Watson, Livonia, and Sampson Watson, III, Maringouin; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Watson; grandparents, Eldora Williams and Doretha Maelvo; and an aunt, Verda Johnson.

WILDER, GLADYS DeROCHE

A loving wife, mother and grandmother and a homemaker, she died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was 78, a resident of Baton Rouge for 42 years and a native of North Little Rock, Ark. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Visiting in the funeral home chapel from 10 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by Jim Bello. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by her husband of 59 years, Ralph H. Wilder; a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Diane Wilder; a sister, Irene Elliott; a brother, Charles A. DeRoche; a granddaughter, Jennifer Wilder Rogillio; and a great-grandson, Brandon Wayne Rogillio, Jr. Preceded in death by her son, Ralph DeWayne Wilder; parents, E.G. DeRoche and Emma Boll DeRoche; a brother and a sister. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806.

TALBOT, GEORGE DUDLEY

Passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2002, at 6 p.m. He was the beloved father and father-in-law of George, Jr. and Fran Talbot, Beckie and Jim Huey, Nancy and Dan Shebesta and Bettie Talbot. He was the beloved granddad of Christie Huey Gibson and husband, Bobby, Jason and Jeffrey Talbot, and Marcie and Shane Fisher; and the beloved great-granddad of Julian. He is also survived by his brother, Bert Talbot of Napoleonville; his sister, Catherine Talbot Maloney of Lafayette; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly as they loved him. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Politz Talbot; his parents, Aubert and Elizabeth Talbot; a brother, Tom Talbot; and sisters, Lucille Foley, Betty Berniard, Jane Marks and Jo Carmouche. He was a veteran of World War II and a charter member of Boston Club West. With his family and friends he enjoyed his 81 years of life to the fullest. He spent his career in the oilfield supply business with Texaco and Murrey Brooks, and he retired from Republic Supply. Wake at Mothe Funeral Home Inc., 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation at St. Anne Catholic Church, Napoleonville, from 11 a.m. until service at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment in St. Anne Cemetery.

TURNER, JULIA AMALIA

Born Feb. 11, 1922, in McComb, Miss., she died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at home. She was 81 and a resident of Baton Rouge. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Turner; a sister, Mary Alveta Davison; a brother, John "Bill" Piazza; and a daughter, Rhonda Julia "Dean" Courtney. Survived by her son, James Henry "Jim" Turner, Baton Rouge; a daughter, Gail Marlene Turner, Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Phillip Porche, Pensacola, Fla., Scott Rousseau, Denham Springs, Julie Rousseau Walker, Walker, Marla Porche Gonzales, Galvez, and Jill Courtney Brakebill, Baton Rouge; 12 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and three nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Capital Area Animal Welfare Society or St. Joseph Hospice. Memorial service at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003.

VOLENTINE, STEVEN LEO

A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a resident of Eunice, he went to be with our Lord on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Zachary. He was born Jan. 2, 1909, in Grayson and was a longtime member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Alice Ann Pocorello and Jeanette Young; two sons-in-law, Raymond Young and Howard Sigler; 13 grandchildren, Farrell, Ronnie, Lonnie and Pete Pocorello, Tammy Lieux, Allen, Roger, Charles, Mark and Jennifer Sigler, Marlene Fries, Jeff Young and Tommy Lynn Hart; 31 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews, including A.J. Douglas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Marlene Sigler; and a son-in-law, Joseph F. Pocorello, Sr. Visitation at Ardoin's Funeral Home, Eunice, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Richard, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Thursday. At his request, in lieu of flowers, please send a donation in memory of Leo Volentine to Acadian Baptist Center, 1202 Academy Drive, Eunice, LA 70535 or to a favorite charity.

ALLEN, OSCAR

A native and resident of White Castle, he died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at River West Medical Center, Plaquemine. He was 87. Visiting at Roscoe Mortuary, 58635 Meriam St., Plaquemine, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday. Religious service at St. Paul Baptist Church, White Castle, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Marcus O'Bear. Dismissal at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment in St. Paul Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Allen; three daughters, Carolyn A. Jones, Gwendolyn A. McGinnis and Connie A. Walls; six sons, Ernest, Alfred, Johnny, Albert, Ricky and Vertis Allen, all of White Castle; and other relatives and friends.

BAILEY, JAMES "POP"

A native and resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 9:26 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. He was 45. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Visiting at Carney Mackey Funeral Home, 1576 Robin St., from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Donald Ray Sterling. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by a son, Jamon Williams; three sisters, Jo Ann McKinney, Brenda Smith and Sara Jackson; eight brothers, David, Leon, Jamie, Jeff, Micheal, Anthony and Greg Bailey and Fredrick Brown; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lou Bailey and Leroy Bailey; and a son, Walter Servick. He was a 1975 graduate of McKinley High School.

COLEMAN, AMANDA WESTMORE

A former resident of East St. Louis, Ill., until her health failed in 1997, and a resident of Ethel, she died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at Pine Haven Rest Home in Ethel. She was 85 and a native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Carney Mackey Funeral Home, 1576 Robin St., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Religious service at Union Baptist Church, Old Slaughter Road, Zachary, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Robert Groce. Dismissal at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by a sister, Geniva W. Gray of Zachary; and two brothers, Arthur Westmore, Jr., of Ethel and Issac Westmore of McManus. Preceded in death by his mother, Elnora Westmore; his father, Arthur Westmore; a sister, Audrey M. Sims; and a brother, Hardy Westmore, Sr. Pallbearers will be family members.
