TURNER, PETER DAVID "PETE"
He died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, of cancer in Portland, Ore., at the age of 62. A native of Baton Rouge, he was a lifelong LSU football fan who attended Baton Rouge High School and LSU. He was retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 198. He is survived by his wife, Kang; two sons, David Keith and Kyung Turner; two daughters, Melissa Turner and Rachel Blackwell and husband, Brian "Rusty" Blackwell; a sister, Nancy Turner Wagner; and seven grandchildren, Cole, Kaleigh, Jasmin and Tyler Turner, Laken Bass and Landon and Hannah Blackwell. His parents, Esther and Grady Turner, and two brothers, Grady Jr. and James Swayze Turner, preceded him in death. Pete recently celebrated 12 1/2 years with Alcoholics Anonymous. When he resided in the Baton Rouge area, he was a volunteer with the Pride Volunteer Fire Department. A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Garnett Slatton, will be held in the Dunham Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Blvd., at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002.
WEBER, EMMA CARNEY YOUNG
A resident of Baton Rouge, she died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002. She was 90, born in Clinton and resided at Williamsburg Senior Living Community for 18 years. She was a retired rancher and raised Polled Herefords at her home, Webwood Ranch. For 17 years she taught in elementary education in East Baton Rouge Parish. She received her Bachelor's degree from LSU at the age of 19, in 1931, and was a Mu Sigma Rho, before Phi Beta Kappa. She was a longtime volunteer in adult literacy programs as a reading teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen Bonner and Carey Carney Young; and a brother, Maj. John Rayner Young, U.S. Air Force, who died in the Phillipines. Her survivors include two daughters, Diana Weber and Barbara Weber Lapotaire; a son, Don R. Weber; and a brother, Allen Bonner Young. Visiting was at Church of the Way Presbyterian, 250 S. Foster Drive, from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Bill Holcomb. Interment was in the Young Family Cemetery in The Plains. A resident of Lutcher for the past 12 years, he died at 7:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002. He was 74 and a native of Phoenix. He was the beloved husband of Wilma Cunningham Scheidler; father of James W. Scheidler of Alta Loma, Calif.; father and father-in-law of Karen Jeanne Scheidler and Arnie Cook of El Cajon, Calif.; stepfather of Karen M. Miller of Reno, Nev.; brother of Shirley Scheidler of Phoenix and Stuart Scheidler of Carlsbad, Calif.; brother and brother-in-law of Richard and Carolyne Jean Scheidler of Phoenix; grandfather of Mindy and Jeff Scheidler of Alta Loma, Joshua Gelb of San Carlos, Calif., and Rachel Gelb of Reno; father-in-law of Karen Kinsman Scheidler of Alta Loma; and brother-in-law of Cleve and Rae Cunningham, Jane Cunningham Oubre and Maureen and Chris LeBoeuf of Lutcher.
