Edward Joseph "E.J." Johnston Sr., retired owner of Johnston Sales and Service, died Wednesday of congestive heart failure at Memorial Medical Center. He was 67. Mr. Johnston was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. He was a member and past master of Etoile Polaire No. 1 Masonic Lodge, past patron of Encircler Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 191. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Haley Johnston; three sons, Brian J., David W. and Edward J. Johnston Jr.; two daughters, Catherine J. Schreve and Victoria J. Mickler; and 11 grandchildren. Marion Jeanne Alleno Chiro, a retired clerk with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, died Monday at her home. She was 77. She was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for the past 53 years. She served as a deputy sheriff in the Jefferson Parish sales tax collection office under five sheriffs, until her retirement in 1980. Mrs. Chiro was a parishioner and volunteer at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and a member of Fraternal Order of Police Jefferson Parish Lodge 12. Survivors include a son, Keith M. Chiro Sr.; a stepbrother, Bobby Barrios; and two grandchildren. A Mass will be said Thursday at 1 p.m. at L.A. Theodore Anthony Leon Sr., a retired maintenance engineer, died Wednesday of heart failure at Lakeland Medical Center. He was 71. Mr. Leon was born in New Orleans and lived in Inglewood, Calif., for the past 36 years. He graduated from Joseph S. Clark High School and attended Dillard University. He was a parishioner of Transfiguration Catholic Church. He retired from Compton Unified School District in Compton, Calif. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Barnes Leon; three sons, Theodore Jr., Theddeus and Lonnie Leon; five daughters, JoAnn Leon, Trinez Frazier, Trina Leon, Shauna Gates and Judith Clayton; his mother, Alberta Leon; three brothers, Ferdinand and Joseph Leon, both of Los Angeles, and Spencer Leon of New Orleans; two sisters, Marilyn Barnes and Cynthia Fourchia, both of Los Angeles; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Coretta King No. 62 in New Jersey, the hospitality committee and senior choir at Union Baptist Church in New Jersey and the youth department at First New Testament Baptist Church in Marrero. Survivors include her husband, the Rev.
