Dessie Mae Worley

SHREVEPORT, LA - Mrs. Dessie Mae Worley passed away at her home on July 20, 2000. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Friday, July 21st from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2000 at First Baptist Church Shreveport. Officiating will be Dr. Jon M. Stubblefield, Pastor of First Baptist Church and Rev. William R. Stowell, Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
Dessie Mae was born in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana on May 2, 1911 to Silas Martin Bostick and Emma Jane Bostick. She graduated from nursing school at Shreveport Charity Hospital in 1931. She was a gifted athlete and played on a nurse's basketball team that was coached by Dr. W. B. Worley. One of the games she played in was against Babe Dedricksen Zaharias Sunoco team. Dessie Mae taught Red Cross courses during World War, II and coached a boy's basketball team at Barret Elementary School in 1947.
Dessie Mae married W. B. Worley, M.D. on June 8, 1933. This union lasted 41 years until Dr. Worley died on Christmas Day, 1974.
She has served as President of the Shreveport Medical Society Auxiliary and First Vice President of the 4th District Louisiana Federation of Women's Club.
In addition to her husband, two sisters, and six brothers preceded her in death. She is survived by sons, Wyeth Hardy (Bo) Worley and wife, Diane, Penuel Hayes (Penny) Worley and wife, Carolyn, of Shreveport; daughters, Jane Worley Jackson and husband, Roy of Roland, AR, and Judy Worley Wolf of Folsom, LA; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Hayes Worley, Rick Wolf, John Jackson, Chris Worley, Dean Worley, Todd Jackson, Richard Lowe and Emmett Adcock.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Russell Worley, George Ellis Bostick and Roy Bostick.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Louisiana especially, Diane Burks, R.N.; Delta Healthcare Services; Bobbie Hall; and Dr. Michael Moore, and Dr. Neil Walker for their kindness and care.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of Louisiana.

Mrs. Roberta Williamson Clifton

New Iberia, LA - Mrs. Roberta Williamson Clifton died at her residence on Friday, July 21, 2000 after a brief illness. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Sunday, July 23rd from 5:00 until 6:30 PM. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Monday at St. Michael the Arch Angel Chapel of St. John Berchmans Cathedral. Officiating will be Father William Spencer, O.F.M. of St. Catherine Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in New Iberia, LA at a later date.
Mrs. Clifton was a native of Shreveport, LA and a resident of New Iberia, LA for 7 years. She was a member and past president of Texas Association of Hospital Auxiliaries, Head Volunteer for the Harris County American Red Cross, Past President of Southwest Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Houston, University Women's Alliance Club of Houston, The Houston Club, Houston Bar Auxiliary, GWFC of New Iberia, The New Iberia Garden Club and a Former Member of River Oaks Baptist Church.
Mrs. Clifton was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip K. Clifton; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. R. B. Williamson; her daughter, Phyllis Clifton and her son-in-law, Raymond John O'Brien III.
Mrs. Clifton is survived by two daughters, Karen Flick and Lee O'Brien; three grandchildren, Emily Flick, Jennifer Flick and Christopher O'Brien; her sister, Mrs. Ethel Taliferro and family; and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Betty Clifton Johnson and family.
Pallbearers will be Jack Ferrell, Lane Stephenson, John Cowen, Edward Dauterive, Hunter Ferrell, Conner Burke and Joel Ferrell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Guillotte, Skylar Judice and Dwane Tarrant.
The family request that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Shriners Hospital For Children, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103.

Mrs. Barbara W. Simon

Shreveport, LA - Mrs. Barbara W. Simon died in Shreveport, LA, on Sunday July 23, 2000 following a lengthy illness. Graveside services will begin on Tuesday July 25, 2000 at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Avenue at 4:00 p.m. Rabbi Harold Robinson of B'Nai Zion Temple will be officiating.
Mrs. Simon was a native of Shreveport, La and was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer N. Simon Jr.; sister, Louise Bronner and parents, E. Bernard and Natalie Weiss. She is survived by her sons, Bruce and his wife, Melissa, Steve and his wife, Peggy; her daughter, Eileen Ellis and husband, Glenn; brother-in-law, Henry Bronner and his wife, Cissy; niece, Lane Bronner all of Shreveport. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Clint and wife, Allison, Clay and his wife Beth, Brad, Alison, David, Krissie and Jackie and 1 great grandchild, Aubrey Simon and her longtime caregiver and friend, Delores Jackson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Elmer N. Simon Jr. Foundation, P.O Box 5369, Shreveport, LA 71135

John Frank Harrell, Jr.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Mr. John Frank Harrell, Jr., 69, died at Grace Home on Sunday, July 23, 2000 after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 25th from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, July 26th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 1:30 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Guido Verbeck of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery- St. Vincent.
Mr. Harrell was a native of Tupelo, Mississippi and a resident of Shreveport for 27 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, past president of the Shreveport Geological Society and involved in various oil and gas industry related activities. Mr. Harrell graduated from Mississippi State University and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by his parents, John Frank Harrell, Sr. and Lessie Pansy Butler Harrell. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ginger Collins Harrell; three daughters, Leslie Harrell, Judy Yates and husband Pat and Joanna Strange and husband Paul; two sons, Douglas Harrell and wife Kathie and John Harrell and wife Donna; twelve grandchildren, Leigh Ann Ripka, John Spinks, Thomas Spinks, Brandon Yates, Dorothy Yates, Camille Strange, Jamie Harrell, Daniel Harrell, Steven Harrell, Mallory Harrell, Colleen Harrell and John Douglas Harrell; and two cousins who were like brothers, Jack Douglas and wife Dot and Lowry Douglas and wife Sara.
Pallbearers will be Charles Barton, Prentis Boatner, Gene Hilliard, Jr., K. D. Lankford, Roy Naumann and Jack Pierce.
Honorary pallbearer will be Al Parks.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Bob Bowie Slack

SHREVEPORT, LA - Mr. Bob Bowie Slack, 76, died at The Glen on Tuesday, July 25, 2000 after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 26th from 5 until 7 p.m. Memorial services will begin on Thursday, July 27th at St. Mark's Cathedral at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Reverend Canon Jane Alexander of St. Mark's.
Bob B. Slack was born on December 10, 1923 in Farmerville, LA to Elve Moore and John Stewart Slack, Sr. He graduated from Georgia Military Academy and Louisiana State University where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon.
In 1944, Bob joined the 8th Army Air Corp. He flew 35 daylight missions over Germany as a tailgunner. He returned January 6, 1945.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral and served as chairman of the day school as well as serving on the vestry. He also was a member of the Shreveport Country Club and the Shreveport Club. He was a retired geologist from Discus Oil Corporation.
Bob Slack was preceded in death by his parents, Elve and John Stewart Slack, Sr., his brother, John Stewart Slack, Jr. and his first wife, Paulina Couch Slack. He is survived by his wife, Sue Dreyer Slack; three daughters, Paula Slack Verbois, Rebecca Chandler Jackson and husband, Edward and Mimi Chandler Glorioso and husband, Vincent; two sons, C. Stewart Slack and wife, Katie and Walter Chandler and wife, Carol Lee; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by a nephew, John Stewart Slack III.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Freyer, John Doles, Wayne Davis, Johnny Greer, Tom Stagg, Robert Touchstone, Leon Thomas, Gaston Jones, Bob Evans, Denny Long, Glenn Davis, Clovis Burch, Bob Destiche, Walter Watts, Board of Home Federal Savings and Loan, Charles G. Phillips, Jack Sibley, Whit Sibley and Walker Weston.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral.

William Whitley Cavett Sibley

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for William Whitley Cavett Sibley will be held at St. Mark's Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2000 with the Reverend Canon Jane W. B. Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Sunday, July 30th from 4 until 6 p.m.
Whit lost his lengthy battle with leukemia on Thursday, July 27, 2000 at LSUMC. A lifelong resident of Shreveport, Whit was born on June 13, 1967. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Norfleet Sibley and by his infant daughter, JuliaAnn Elizabeth Sibley and very special friends, Martin Sloan and Bob Slack. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wendy Roberts Sibley; two sons, John Graham Cavett Sibley and Bruce William Jackson Sibley; sister, Virginia Norfleet Sibley Perryman and her husband, James Lytton Perryman and their son, Whitley Lytton Perryman; his father, Jackson Cavett Sibley; aunts and uncles, Julia Norfleet and John Hutchinson Hearne and Martha Sibley and Lory Smith; and great-aunt, Irene Lawton Sibley.
On the maternal and paternal side, Whit is descended from Shreveport's earliest families; John Gordon McWilliams, Dr. Tom Ford, John McWilliams Ford, Ama Enid Ford Vance, Larkin Edwards and Dr. John Sibley. Whit's maternal grandparents were Ama Ford Vance and William Jacob Norfleet. His paternal grandparents were Gladys Jackson and Whitley Cavett Sibley.
Whit attended All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg, MS and graduated from Byrd High School. Whit was an account executive with A T & T Wireless. He was an avid hunter and had served as Treasurer and on the Executive Committee, Shreveport Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and Quail Unlimited Sponsor and was a member of Coastal Conservation Association. He was on the board of the American Cancer Society. Whit had recently been initiated into the Masonic order.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Atkins, III, Patrick Axford, Ed Copeland, Douglas Harper, John Gimber, Pierce Graham, Matthew Linn, Sandy Saunders, Bryan Moore and Kye Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be James Patrick Beaird, Randy Shouse, Gerry Shouse, Peyton LaBorde, Jonathan LaBorde, Rick Wiegand, Sheriff Steve Prator, Steve Prator, Jr., Connor Nicholson, Steve White, Raymond F. Kayser and his godfather, George N. Gray.
Many thanks to family, friends and Dr. Barry Weinburger and his loving staff who continually stayed by Whit's bedside till the end.

Mildred Mays Cann

Shreveport, LA - Mildred Mays Cann, age 91, died at The Glen Retirement Village on Thursday, August 3, 2000 after a brief illness. Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2000 at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Fred Wideman.
Mrs. Cann was a native of Ruston, Louisiana and a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana for 51 years. She was born on May 10, 1909 in Ruston, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Byron Bradley Cann; her mother, Hattie Crawford Mays; her father, James Holland Mays; her three sisters, Virginia Mays Kidd, Harriet Mays Cotton and Lelia Mays.
She is survived by her son, Byron Bradley Cann, Jr. and his wife, Linda and her daughter, Harriet Cann Batte and her husband, Dr. James Franklin Batte; grandchildren, William Bradley Cann of Shreveport, LA, Gregory Holland Batte and his wife, Kay of Shreveport, LA, Stephen Townsend Batte and his wife, Tammy of Daphne, AL and Charlotte Batte Roan and her husband, Eric of Lake Charles, LA; and great grandchildren, Emily Holland Batte, Braxton Rives Batte and Quinton Wylie Roan.
Mrs. Cann graduated from Ruston High School and graduated Cw-n Laude from Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchberg, Virginia where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She was a member of First United Methodist Church 'in Shreveport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Shreveport, LA, and The Glen Retirement Village.

Natalie Elizabeth (Betsy) Brandon

SHREVEPORT, LA - Miss Natalie Elizabeth (Betsy) Brandon, 80, died in Shreveport, on Thursday, August 3, 2000. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Saturday, August 5th from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. with graveside services following at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Cemetery. Officiating will be Mr. Ray Boswell.
Miss Brandon was a longtime resident of Shreveport, LA. She had attended and was a longtime member of the Highland Baptist Church. She was a longtime employee and had retired from Commercial National Bank.
Miss Brandon was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Henry Brandon and Sophie Lowman Brandon; and her brother, Charles Edward Brandon. She is survived by her aunt, India Lowman Jones of Ft. Worth, TX; cousins, Dr. S. H. Frazier of Acton, Mass, Mary Louise Maness of Georgetown, TX, Sarah Lynn Pemberton of Ft. Worth, TX; Joseph Brandon of Cartersville, GA, and Mary Pons of Georgetown, CO.
The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Shreveport.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nursing home staff at Garden Park Nursing Home, the staff at Willis Knighton South and Christus Schumpert Medical Center, and a special thanks to Dr. Thomas Reilly.

Mrs. Regina Houck Prescott

SHREVEPORT, LA - Mrs. Regina Houck Prescott died at Glen Oaks Retirement Home on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2000 at Forest Park Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. L. Wilson Warren and Rev. Bryan L. McDowell of First Presbyterian Church. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church Chapel.
Mrs. Prescott was a native of Lampasas, Texas and a resident of Shreveport, LA for 85 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, active in Circle and women of the church. She was a member of Hypatia Study Club and President from 1964-65 and 1976-77. Mrs. Prescott also belonged to the Reviewers Book Club, Shreveport Club, Shreveport Country Club and Toy Loan, serving as President. She was a charter member of The Cotillion of Holiday in Dixie, The Demoiselle Club and the DAR. Mrs. Prescott graduated from Shreveport High School on Hope Street, which later became C. E. Byrd High School. She attended the University of Missouri where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Centenary College with a B. S. Degree in 1927.
Mrs. Prescott was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Gulley Taylor and James Simeon Taylor, her 1st husband of many years, Oliver Kershner Houck and her 2nd husband, Coulter Ball Prescott, her maternal grandparents, Henrietta and John Purifoy Murphy and paternal grandparents, Lucy and James Simeon Taylor. She is survived by one daughter, Garland Guth and her husband, John; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Gray and husband, Rev. George Naff Gray, II, John G. Guth, III and wife, Carolyn, Garland Virginia Josey and husband, Julian Josey, and Mary Guth Ratcliff; and great-grandchildren, George Naff Gray, III, William S. Gray, Mary Elizabeth Gray, Sarah Guth, John Guth IV, Addison Houck Josey, Henry Townsend Josey and John Mitchell Ratcliff; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ray Hardey.
The family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church.

Eula Weston Arnwine

SHREVEPORT, LA - Eula Weston Arnwine, 94, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2000 in Shreveport. Visitation will be held August 20th from 2-4 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be August 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the University Church of Christ, 2045 E. 70th Street, Shreveport, with Jerry Hodge, Minister officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery.
Mrs. Arnwine was born July 27, 1906 in Jonah, Texas to Frank Alton Weston and Tennie Corder Weston. Eula married Al Arnwine on April 11, 1931 in Frederick, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Arnwine; stepson, Bennie Arnwine; and infant grandson, Gregory Layne Hayes. To that union was born three children, Peggy Joyce, Patsy Alene and Jerry Dale. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Eula was an experienced seamstress, milliner, dietician, and a dedicated student of the Bible. Al and Eula lived in Lake Charles, Louisiana for 39 years where Al was employed by Continental Oil Company. She had been a resident of Shreveport for 25 years and a member of the University Church of Christ.
Pallbearers will be Bob Broom, Bob Mosely, Sr., Bob Mosely, Jr., Ed Robinson, Bill McIntosh and Tommy Batie.
