Helen Barone Guillot "Mere Maw"

SHREVEPORT, LA - Helen Barone Guillot, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2000 at Willis- Knighton Pierremont Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico on August 11, 1913. She resided in New Orleans until moving to Shreveport in 1953. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2000. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Officiating will be Father Pike Thomas of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Affectionately called "Mere Maw", Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a Catholic and a member of St. Elizabeth Anne Seton. Mere Maw's nurturing disposition, bright eyes, and open arms were a comfort and joy to all who came in contact with her. We will never forget her poetic words, artistic talent, and love and devotion to her family.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Guillot Jr., four brothers and two sisters. She leaves three generations to cherish her memory. They include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Helen & Russell Peterson and Patricia & H. C. Jones of Shreveport, four sons and daughters-in-law, George & Linda Guillot of Dallas, Ronnie & Jackie Guillot of New Orleans, Kenny & Sandy Guillot of Baton Rouge, and Rocky & Cindy Guillot of New Orleans; sixteen grandchildren, Judy Barro, Bert Ferris, Linda Eason, Cindy Rogers, Scott Ferris, Greg Guillot, Jeff Guillot, Ronald Guillot, Michael Guillot, Chris Guillot, Leesa Guillot, Suzette Maurtaeoras, Cammie Guillot, Roch Guillot, Joshua Guillot, and Spencer Guillot; twelve great-grandchildren, Julie & Megan Barro, Lexie Ferris, Justin Jennifer, Ferris, & Jacob Eason, Haley, Emily, & Cabot Rogers, and Christopher & Daniel Ferris; nine step-grandchildren, Clay, Scott and David Peterson, Pete and Ashley Jones, Steven and Michael Mullins and Susan Mayet; and nine step-great grandchildren, Travis and Wheeler Peterson, Campbell and Annabelle Jones, Megan and Madaline Mullins, Corrie and Cole Mayet and Steven Mullins, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Mere-Maw's grandsons.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the fourth floor nursing staff at WK-Pierremont for their loving care and concern for our dear Mere Maw.

Val Joseph Quinn

Shreveport, LA - Val Joseph Quinn, 87, died on Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at his home in Shreveport. He was born in Cox Creek, Iowa on March 19, 1913, the son of Peter Henry and Mary O’Brien Quinn. He spent his childhood in Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Over the course of his 42 years with Schlumberger, Val resided in Magnolia, Arkansas, as well as Shreveport, Louisiana. On four separate occasions during his long career in the oil industry, Mr. Quinn was awarded "Wildcatter of the Year". He held several leadership positions with the Ark-La-Tex chapter of the American Petroleum Institute, including that of Chapter Chairman. He was also a past officer for the Shreveport Petroleum Club, was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, as well as The Society of Professional Well Log Analysts and the Shreveport Geological Society,
He served as a lector for St Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a parishioner for 45 years. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Adams Quinn and his children, Sandra Holman and husband, John, Susan Mang and husband, Herb, Joe Quinn and wife, Shawn, and Jim Quinn. His sister, Bernece Quinn, four grandchildren, Rick White, Leslie Reynolds and husband, Chris, Jennifer Mang, and Lisa Quinn, and one great-grandchild, Brady Reynolds, also survive him.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, August 25, 2000. A vigil will be held at 7 PM immediately following the visitation. The funeral service will be at 12:30 PM on Saturday, August 26, 2000 at Osborn Funeral Home. Father Richard J. Lombard of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will officiate at both the vigil and the service. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport.

Louisa Biedenharn-Clausen

SHREVEPORT, LA-Louisa Biedenharn-Clausen, age 60, died on Wednesday, August 23, after a brief illness. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 29,2000 in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home on Southern Avenue.
Born Mary Louisa Biedenharn, April 19, 1940, she was the second daughter of Jeanne and R. Zehntner Biedenharn. She attended Byrd High School and L.S.U.-Baton Rouge.
Louisa was an early pioneer in the field of health and physical fitness, operating Southern Health Club in Shreveport in her early 20's. In 1966, she opened her first "Louisa's Health Spa" in Tampa, Florida, becoming the first female owned health resort in the United States, and the first club "exclusively for women." Louisa's clubs expanded to five in the Florida cities of Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Newport Richey.
After selling her Florida clubs in 1973, Louisa returned to Shreveport, where she established "Louisa's Health & Beauty Resort" exclusively for ladies. She was on the founding Board of Directors and the only female board member of the national Association of Physical Fitness Centers. Louisa was awarded special recognition for her accomplishments in the field of physical fitness from then President George Bush.
Louisa touched the lives of thousands of ladies, both members of her health clubs, and young women who worked with her. It was Louisa's desire to help women with emotional support as well as physical, to achieve their goals, through independence, self-esteem, and the strength to change.
After opening additional clubs in Monroe and Bossier City, LA, and Longview, TX, she introduced the first tanning beds in the United States through her "Magic Sun" businesses. Louisa retired from the Health & Beauty Resorts in 1981.
Louisa's Limousines was started in 1986, with her husband, Stephen Clausen, where she delighted in providing unique experiences with special surprises for her clientele. Louisa's creative zest for life was expressed by her most recent interest in presenting parties of enchantment for children.
Louisa is survived by her beloved husband, Stephen Clausen; stepson and wife, Christian and Lisa Clausen, and their son, Dylan; sister, Jeanne Biedenharn-Gay of Lutz, Florida, nephew, Zehntner Biedenharn Gay of Isla Morada, Florida; sister, Catherine Biedenharn-Flaherty of Shreveport, sister and brother-in-law, Sydney Biedenharn and Randall Walker, and their children, Reina, Rachel and Ross Walker.
Louisa's life embodied the essence of vibrant free-spiritedness, with her exuberant laugh, her childlike loving kindness, her generosity, and her heart the size of Texas. These qualities will be cherished in our memory.

Dorothy Weston Phelps

SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services for Dorothy Weston Phelps, age 100 of Shreveport, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2000 at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home.
Mrs. Phelps was born on August 23, 1900 and died Friday, August 25, 2000. Mrs. Phelps was a resident of Shreveport, and is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Kneeland Phelps, Jr. Mrs. Phelps was a resident of Garden Court Nursing Home for several years.
Survivors include one daughter, Alice Harriet Metcalf and husband, James C. (Buddy) of Columbus, GA; one son, Henry Kneeland Phelps, III and wife, Arlene of Benton, Louisiana; two sisters, Clifton Eastham of Oil City, LA, and Lois Weston of Lewisville, Texas; seven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Constance Bonomo Cascio

SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Constance Bonomo Cascio, age 91, will be held at 11AM Monday, August 28, 2000 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Osborn Funeral Home.
A rosary service will follow at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home.
Constance passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2000 as a result of cancer.
She was born August 16, 1909 in Cefalu, Italy, and came to America with her family.
She lived in the Shreveport, Bossier City area all of her fife.
Constance retired from the J.C. Penney Company on October 1, 1974 after 11 years of service.
She was also employed by Sansone's restaurant from 1978 until 1989.
Constance was preceded in death by her parents, John and Santa Bonomo, husband, Albert Joseph, Cascio, three brothers, Joe, Tony and Johnny Bonomo, and a sister, Rose Renno.
She is survived by her son, A.J. Cascio, his wife, Cathey; her daughter, Rose Ann Stanford, her husband, Jim; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two special friends, Tony DeFatta and Johnny Tuminello.
All loved Connie who knew her, and memories of her love and kindness will be cherished always by her family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Tony Cascio, Mike Cascio, Greg Thatcher, Joe Cascio, Tom Krueper and Byron Copeland.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Shreveport-Bossier.

Geneva Johnson Graham

SPRINGHILL, LA - Funeral services for Mrs. Geneva Johnson Graham, 70, of Springhill, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at the Central Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Harvey officiating, assisted by Rev. Kenneth R. Everett. There will be a 1:30 p.m. Graveside service at the Red Hill Cemetery at Chidester, Arkansas. Services under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.
Mrs. Graham, a native of Readhimer, LA and a resident of Springhill, LA for 47 years, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2000 in Springhill, LA after a long illness. She was a very active member in the Central Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher and helping disabled children. She was a retired school teacher; a graduate of the Readhimer High School; Northwestern University, Natchitoches, LA; the New Orleans Baptist Seminary; and she received her Masters degree from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. In her teaching career of 34 years in Springhill, she taught first grade and then special education in the Springhill Junior High School and the Springhill High School, retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Graham helped established the SPARC Center and the ARC. She was the Teacher Of The Year for ARC in 1972.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Hubert L. Graham; a son, Steven Graham, both of Springhill; sister, Faye Del Robinson of Houston, TX; brothers, Steven N. "SN" Johnson, Jr. of Readhimer, LA, Ben Melburn "Mel" Johnson of Doyline, LA, Michael Wayne "Mike" Johnson of Petal, MS, Mark Edward Johnson of Shreveport, LA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the SPARC Center.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Cheryl Turner

PRINCETON, LA - Graveside services for Ms. Cheryl Turner will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at 3 p.m., at the Haughton Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Eakin. Ms. Turner is survived by her mother, Beverly Fontenot, father, Harvey Turner, her loving companion and friend, Larry Morris, sisters, Suzanne Turner and Jennifer Turner, brothers, Jeff Turner and John Turner and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Royce Langford, Criss Lee, Daniel Turner, David Langlie, Micheal Langford and Jeffrey Scott Turner. The family wishes to give special thanks to the HMC Hospice program for their care and support. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

Charles Walker Darrow

SHREVEPORT, LA - Charles Walker Darrow would have become 80 years young next Feb. 12, 2001. Chuck's enjoyment of life ended while driving his motor-home in the state of NY Oct. 5th. Chuck and his wife Melba attended the annual reunion of the U.S. Marine USMB 333 (3rd Marines) in Cape Cod, Mass. during the first few days of October. While driving, Chuck was stricken and failed to regain consciousness. Melba heroically gained control on the fast highway and was able to pull over and gave Chuck CPR to no avail.
Chuck was born on Darien St., Shreveport where he attended Shreveport public schools and Fair Park High School. His work at LSU was interrupted by W.W.II. He entered the V12 program at old Dodd College in 1942. He then flew in the marines during W.W.II and in Korea. Chuck retired after an illustrious career with Braniff International Air Lines 20 years ago.
He is survived by his beloved Melba on his ranch in Dialville, TX.; sons, Billy Russ, Washington, NC, Gary, Irving, TX; daughter, Tammy Anderson, Denver, CO and their spouses and Chuck's grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his step-children, Joe Ballard of Jacksonville, TX, Paul Ballard of Mission, TX, Debra Wesley and Roxanna both of Houston, their spouses and Chuck's grandchildren. Chuck loved them all. Chuck also leaves brothers, Ernie, Emmette and Bill and their spouses, all of Shreveport and sister, Elsie Rymmer of Cleveland, TN.
Chuck was predeceased by mother and father, Emma and Ernest R. Darrow, brother, Clarence and sister, Gloria Stanley. Chuck's funeral will be in Jacksonville, TX at Thompson Funeral Home - Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at his ranch west of Dialville, TX.

Annie Ruth Dunn Norris

DOYLINE, LA - Services for Annie Ruth Dunn Norris, 89, will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000 at Point Chapel Assembly of God, Doyline, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Lee Nunley, assisted by Rev. Ronald Dunn. Burial will be at Point Chapel Cemetery, Doyline, LA.
Visitation will be Monday, at 5 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Minden, LA.
Mrs. Dunn Norris passed away Oct. 8, 2000 in Shreveport, LA. She was born in Lake, Mississippi and was also a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Curtis Norris; son, Jack Norris and granddaughter, Cynthia Diane O'Rourke.
Survivors include sons, Ralph C. Norris of Bossier City, LA; Hal Norris of Waskom, TX; Melvin Norris of Seattle, WA; Donald Norris of Hohenwald, TN; Gerald Norris of Dallas, TX; daughter, Janel O'Rourke of Doyline, LA; Anita Dixon of Houma, LA; brother, Frank Dunn of Tyler, TX; Woodrow Dunn of Elm Grove, LA; daughter-in-law, Joanne Norris of Shreveport, LA; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Rodney Wayne Morton

SPRINGTOWN, TX - Funeral services for Rodney Morton, 37, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 9, 2000 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Bro. Mike Stowell, pastor of First Baptist Church, Keithville. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2000 at the funeral home.
Rodney was born December 28, 1962, and passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2000, due to an automobile accident. He was raised in Shreveport, LA, but has lived in Texas for the past 15 years. He was a loving husband, father, son and brother and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Rodney was preceded in death by his mother, LaReva Morton.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Monya Harris Morton; one son, Gregory Morton; father, Lawrence Morton; sister, Cindy Morris and husband, Karl; brother, Larry Morton; grandmother, Verna (Bunt) Mangham; in-laws, Pat and Linda Harris; sister-in-law, Mia Glidewell and husband, Kevin; brothers-in-law, Jon Harris and Jason Harris and wife, Tammy; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and some very special friends.
Pallbearers will be Karl and Justin Morris, Jason and Jon Harris, Kevin Glidewell and Greg Solomon.
