Pauline Hooper Snell

VIVIAN, LA - Graveside services for Mrs. Pauline Snell will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 9, 2000 at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating will be Bro. Richard Beeman, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, Vivian.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel.
Mrs. Snell went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 6, 2000, at the age of 87. She was born December 12, 1912 in Cass, TX. She was an avid reader and loved to knit and crochet gifts for others. She loved her family and friends. She was a longtime resident of Vivian and a member of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Snell was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Aubrey Worth Snell and a son, Lloyd B. Snell.
She is survived by a daughter, Mildred Martin of Blanchard, LA; two sons, Aubrey W. Snell, Jr. and wife, Dollie of Blanchard, LA and Quinton M. Snell and wife, Bebe of Trinity, TX; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Johnny Martin, Ronnie Martin, Dickie Snell, Andy Snell, and great grandchildren, Jimmy Denning, Timothy Denning, Michael Martin, and Jay Snell.
The family would like to express a special thanks and appreciation to all the people at IHS Nursing Home in Vivian for their care and concerns for our mother.

Alice C. Madden

RINGGOLD, LA - Services for Alice C. Madden, 94, will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Searcy Smith and Rev. Carl Word. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Madden was born December 31, 1905 in Bienville Parish, LA and died May 9, 2000. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Madden was a talented homemaker who loved to cook, sew, and do for the family and for other friends in the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Thomas H. Corley; two brothers, H. L. & Knighten Corley; husband, Dallas R. Madden; and one son, Dallas Raymond Madden.
Survivors are daughter-in-law, Clarice Madden of Ringgold, LA; two grandsons, Ray Madden and wife Donna of Maumelle, AR and Tommy Madden and wife Tyrette of Ringgold, LA; five great-grandchildren, Corley Madden, Hunter Madden, Reed Madden, Turner Madden and Tanner Madden; two nephews, Thomas Corley and wife, Carol of Waco, TX and Tony Corley and wife Jane of Decatur, AL; two nieces, Shari Reeves of Minden, LA and Rebecca Dison and husband Keith of Minden, LA; a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ray Madden, Tommy Madden, Hunter Madden, Tony Corley, Thomas Corley and David Saucier.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Ringgold Nurse Care Center.

Theresa Marie Kralich Baxter

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Mrs. Theresa Marie Kralich Baxter of Shreveport will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2001 in Centuries Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Father Larry Niehoff, pastor of St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Baxter was born in Port Arthur, TX on September 27, 1911. She passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Willis Knighton Pierremont after a lengthy illness. She had been a resident of the Guest House for the past three years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Theresa was always helpful and supportive of her entire family, always there to do anything asked of her without ever once complaining. Mrs. Baxter is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Jessie B. Baxter, two brothers and a sister. She is survived by one son, James Baxter of Stigler, OK; two daughters, Betty Sims of West Monroe, LA and Donna Henderson of Keithville, LA and their spouses. She also leaves five generations including 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren. KEOKUK, IA/SHREVEPORT, LA - Walter A. Miller, age 84, died Thursday, May 24th in the Glendale Health and Rehab Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
He was born September 10, 1916, the son of Walter J. and Elsie Froede Miller.
Walter graduated from High School at Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, PA and attended Kiski Prep School in Pittsburg, PA--post grad and had sold life insurance. Attended University of Iowa-June 1940-special courses in metallurgy...Attended University of Minnesota-1942-special courses in metallurgy...Enlisted in the Army Air Corps 12/20/42...Cadet program-graduated Pampa, TX 6/44...Second Lt.-Bomadier School...Volunteered to attend B-17 School...Served in England with 401 Bomb Group having flew 29 missions over Nazi Germany and returned in May 1945...Assigned to Convalescent Center, Ft. Logan, Colorado...Discharged in 1945.
He started at Keokuk Steel Castings (3/2/36) and in June of 1937 was a salesman at Keokuk Steel Casting.
In April 1946 negotiated the purchase of Springfield Boiler equity in Keokuk Steel Casting...President of Keokuk Steel Casting...1950-Beaird Steel Casting (Shreveport, LA)-Mid-Continent I...1954-started Hica Corp. (Shreveport, LA)...1966-started Mid Continent II (Shreveport, LA)...1966-merged Mid Continent I & II and Keokuk-Kast Metals Corporation...Served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer-retired in 1981...1982-Chairman of the Executive Committee...Fully retired in 1986.
Served on various organizations: Chairman of Board-Y.M.C.A....Rotary Club...Board of Directors-Keokuk Country Club...Chairman-United Way...Board of Directors-State Central Bank...Board of Directors-Keokuk Savings and Loan.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed golf.
He married Mary Helen Scott October 15, 1938 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Keokuk...She preceded him in death October 10, 1998...Walter then married Margaret Muth in Sheboygan, WI on July 31, 1999. She survives Walter.
He is survived by his children: Walter Scott Miller, Shreveport, LA, Stephen Lawrence Miller and wife Mary Kay, Shreveport, LA, Mary Theresa "Terry" Robinson and husband Craig, Shreveport, LA, Janet Louise Stawinski and husband Daryl, Rochester, Michigan; eight grandchildren: Rick, Steve and Kristen Miller, Holly Redmond, Natalie Robinson, Alex and Nick Stawinski, Peter Miller; two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Gene McChesney.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2001 at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk, Iowa. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice and Ocean Reef Medical Center in lieu of flowers. Memorials may be left at the Greaves Mortuary.

Ramona Dean Foster

HOT SPRINGS, AR/MONROE, LA - Services for Ramona Dean Foster, 34, of Hot Springs, AR, formerly of Monroe, will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2001, in Mulhearn Home Chapel, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Billy Joe Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Ramona died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Hot Springs, AR. She graduated from Benton High School and attended ULM.
Survivors include her mother, Ricki Kepner Green of Farmerville, LA; father, Billy Foster of Bossier City, LA; brother, William C. Foster, Jr. of Bossier City, LA; daughter, Amber Michelle Foster of Bossier City, LA; and grandmother, Vivian Foster of Bossier City, LA.
Pallbearers will be Dr. A. D. Smith, Richie Brantley, Roy Jones, Max Powell, Kevin Bryant, Bobby Lefflett, and Johnny Ray Matthews.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Nell Gregory

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Nell Gregory, 81, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. A.P. Weaver, pastor of Four Square Gospel Church. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gregory, a native of Beech Creek, KY and longtime resident of Shreveport, LA, passed away Friday, June 1, 2001 in Shreveport, LA. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she worked in the day care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Gregory.
Mrs. Gregory is survived by her son, Thomas E. Gregory and wife, Carol of Greenwood, LA; daughter, Rosalee Holder and husband, Joe of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Michael Gregory of Shreveport, LA, Susan Gregory Weaver of Keithville, LA and Randolph Rush Holder of Cat Island, Caribbean Islands; three great grandchildren, Kaitlin Elizabeth Weaver, Aaron Michael Gregory, Anna Elizabeth Gregory; sister-in-law, Laura Martin of Portsmouth, RI; and niece, Ann Cowart of Denver, CO.

Louis D. (Jimmy) Durrett

MINDEN, LA - Services for Jimmy Durrett will be held Monday, June 4, 2001 at Rose-Neath's Minden Chapel at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Andy Harris, pastor of Central Assembly of God, where Mr. Durrett was a member, assisted by Rev. Shawn Reine. Interment will immediately follow in Gardens of Memory in Minden.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 3, 2001 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and from 7 a.m. to services time on June 4, 2001.
Mr. Durrett passed away June 2, 2001 after a lengthy illness. He was a retired engineer with KCS Railroad. He was a lifelong resident of the Minden area. His years of service to his country were spent in the US Navy Seabees during World War II. Gardening was his favorite hobby. He spent many hours in his yard before his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alva E. and Marie Durrett and his brother Charles E. Durrett.
Survivors include his loving wife and caregiver Martha Yocom Durrett; son, Bill Durrett and wife Flo; daughter, Darlene Durrett-Laborde and husband Dennis; brother, Alva "Gene" Durrett and wife Loretta; grandchildren, Brandi and Dusty Durrett. He is also survived by a daughter, Dottie Sue and her three daughters. Also left behind is his precious poodle, Dolly, who stayed by his side for many years while he was ill.
Pallbearers will be relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be retired friends of KCS Railroad.

Josephine Frank Garacci

SHREVEPORT,LA - Mrs. Josephine Garacci, age 89, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2001 at Schumpert Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be at Centuries Funeral Home on Sunday, June 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Monday, June 4, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 228 Patton St., Shreveport, LA at 10:30 a.m. Celebrating the Mass will be Fr. Richard J. Lombard of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment to follow in Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Ave.
Mrs. Garacci was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Garacci and daughter-in-law, Connie Garacci. She is survived by one daughter, Josie Pohl and husband Russell; son, Johnny A. Garacci, all of Shreveport, LA; two sisters, Florence Grizzaffi and Lena Miller, both of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Melissa McElroy, Deborah Hart, Steve Pohl, Mark Pohl; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Murphy, Chuck Patterson, Charles E. Patterson, Steve Pohl, Philip Roppolo, and Tony Roppolo.

Ione Marks

MANY, LA - Ione Marks, a 34-year resident of Sabine Parish, passed away June 1, 2001, at the Toledo Nursing Center in Zwolle, LA. She was 81.
Mrs. Marks was a talented artist and teacher of art who helped establish the Sabine Parish Art Guild. At art shows, she was recognized with numerous awards for her work, and her paintings have been exhibited at Art World Galleries of Oklahoma City, One Main Gallery of Dallas, and Wynneswood Galleries of Dallas. Mrs. Marks wrote poetry and earned her pilot's license. Besides her lifelong art career, she also worked as an accountant for Youngs Memorial Vo-Tech in Morgan City, LA, as activities director for the Sabine Council on Aging in Many, LA, and as a real estate agent in the Toledo Bend Lake area.
Yvonne "Ione" Marcine Hughes Parsons Marks of Many, LA, was born in Arkansas City, KS, on November 22, 1919. She was preceded in death by her first husband Clarence Alfred Parson, who died in 1982; her parents Claude and Ola Hughes; and her brother Claude Hughes. Mrs. Mark's survivors include her husband Kenneth Marks of Many, LA; her son Frank Parsons of Denver, NC, her daughters Connie Parsons Archbald of Santa Barbara, CA and Cara Leggett of Zwolle, LA; her step-daughters Susan Marks of Shreveport, LA; her sister Agnes Lones of Dublin, OH; her sister-in-law Mary Lanie of Luther, OK; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and six great step-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Pathek, the staff of Sabine Medical Center and the staff of Toledo Nursing Center who took such loving care of her during the last four years of her life, members of Bayou Scie Methodist Church, Zwolle First Methodist Church, Rev. Bonita Davis, Father Kenneth Williams and William Ruffin.
Funeral services will be held June 4th, 10 a.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, LA. Interment at Zwolle City Cemetery.
