Retired Army Col. Homer Kirk Gardner Jr. died Monday at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 80. Mr. Gardner was born in Inverness, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for many years. He was head of engineering and development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Regional Research Lab. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Shady Oaks Golf Club. Survivors include his wife, Grace A. Rourke; a son, Kirk M. Gardner; a daughter, Patricia G. Walsh; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery No. 2.
MUMPHREY, ROBERT JAMES 'BOB'

Robert James "Bob" Mumphrey, a retired drafting technician, died Tuesday of heart failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 56. Mr. Mumphrey was born in Welcome and lived in Marrero. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Delgado Community College and the University of New Orleans. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and its male choir. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Celestine Mumphrey; a son Derric L. Mumphrey; his mother, Rosemary Batiste Mumphrey; and a brother, Ronald J. Mumphrey. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1219 Cohen St., Marrero. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn cemetery, Avondale. Shirley P. Penouilh, a retired employee of Louisiana Food and Nutrition Services, died Sunday of cancer at her home. She was 68. Ms. Penouilh was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 22 years. She was a parishioner of Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Survivors include her companion, Raymond Lafevre; four sons, Val J., Steve A., Brad M. and Ken P. Penouilh; her mother, Jeanne L. Polkey; a brother, Emile J. Polkey; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Donald I. Blakeman, a retired certified boat captain for Halliburton Service, died Sunday of complications from emphysema at his home. He was 80. Mr. Blakeman was born in Morgan City and lived in Harahan for the past 53 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He graduated from Fortier High School. He retired from Halliburton after 29 years of service; he had won numerous safety awards. Survivors include his wife, Rita B. Blakeman; two sons, Donald T. Blakeman of Hahnville and Forrest J. Blakeman of St. Rose; a daughter, Beverly B. Casey of Metairie; a brother, Forrest "Junior" Blakeman of Harvey; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at L.A. George Bergeron, a mechanic for K&A; Automotive, died Monday of heart failure at his home. He was 58. Mr. Bergeron was born in Arnaudville and lived in New Orleans for the past 37 years. He was a former employee of Charlie's Automotive and Ford Car Care. He was a parishioner of St. David's Catholic Church and a former parishioner of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Arnaudville. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Jean Bergeron; two sons, Troy and Russell Bergeron; three brothers, Milton and Raymond Bergeron and Alvin Strauss; and seven grandchildren. He graduated from Louisiana State University and Loyola University Law School. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the 159th Fighter Group of the Louisiana Air National Guard. He was listed in "Who's Who of American Trial Lawyers." Survivors include his wife, Marlyn Rhea Baham; three sons, Alvin, Ivy and Gaylon Baham; and three grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Stewart Ross; two daughters, Boydellia Baham and Johnell Augustine; her father, John Session; her stepfather, John Burkhalter of Marksville; six brothers, John, Michael, Farian, Kenneth, Keith and Irvin Session; and two grandchildren.
