Amelia Schehr Olavarrieta, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Canon Hospice. She was 86. Ms. Olavarrieta was born in Water Valley, Miss., and lived in Metairie for the past 35 years. Survivors include three sons, Ramon "Marty, " Ricardo P. and Edward A. Olavarrieta Sr.; five daughters, Dolores O. Donnelly, Patricia O. Waguespack, Juanita O. Heidingsfelder, Bonnie O. Kenny and Anita O. Smith; 36 grandchildren; and 63 great-grandchildren. A Mass was said Thursday at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home. Burial was in Lakelawn Park Mausoleum.

Casey Joseph Lintz died Nov. 9 at his home in Violet. He was 38. Mr. Lintz was born in Sewickley, Pa., and lived in St. Bernard Parish for the past four years. O'Neal Malcolm Stevens, a retired laborer, died Thursday at Woodland Village Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was 84. Mr. Stevens was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a past employee of the Sewerage & Water Board. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Survivors include two brothers, Robert Stevens and Joseph Simon. Sidney Lee Smith Sr., a staff sergeant in the Army National Guard, died Monday from a stroke at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 48. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Southern University of New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Maude Smith; two sons, Lawrence and Stanley Smith Sr.; a daughter, Swanika M. Emanuel James Hines Sr., a retired cook, died Wednesday of undetermined causes at Memorial Medical Center. He was 53. Mr. Hines was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Booker T. Washington High School. He was a former merchant seaman and employee of the New Orleans Superdome. He was a member of St. Daniel Spiritual Church No. 1. Survivors include two sons, Emanuel James Hines Jr. and Desmond Harris; his mother, Gertrude Hines; a brother, Ezell Hines; a sister, Elaine Hymel; and nine grandchildren. He was a member of the New Orleans Clerks and Checkers International Longshoremen's Association Local No. 1497. Survivors include a sister, Audrey McGovern Vesely. He was a graduate of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He was a former special agent for the FBI and a vice president of Whitney National Bank and Standard Fruit Co., and president of Bryce E. Dressell & Co. He was a member of St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and board member of the lay committee. He was a past president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Patzer Monaghan; a son, William Scott Monaghan; a sister, Marian Shields; and two grandchildren. Gary L. Groesch, co-founder and executive director of the Alliance for Affordable Energy, a consumer advocacy group, died Monday of pulmonary fibrosis at Ochsner Foundation Clinic. He was 50. Mr. Groesch was born in Springfield, Ill., and lived in New Orleans for the past 27 years. He graduated from the University of Illinois. He was named New Orleanian of the Year for 1986 by Gambit Weekly and was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Award of the Greater New Orleans African Methodist Episcopal Ministerial Alliance and the Ramona Stevens Solidarity Award of the Louisiana Environmental Action Network. Survivors include his companion, Karen Wimpelberg; a stepson, Alex Wimpelberg; a stepdaughter, Anna Wimpelberg; his parents, Lubert and Lorene Groesch of Springfield; a brother, Glenn Groesch of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a sister, Carole Jones of Moscow, Idaho. A tribute and jazz funeral will be held Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a memorial program at 5:15 p.m. at Rock 'n' Bowl Cafe, 4135 S. Carrollton Ave. Mr. Groesch donated his body to science.
