Josephine An'thow "Nanan" Mitchell, a retired grocery store owner, died Saturday at Metropolitan Hospice. She was 93. Mrs. Mitchell was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a former employee of Haggernac Hardware Store. She was a member of Jesters Social and Pleasure Club. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. A Mass will be said Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 411 N. Rampart St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Louis cemetery No. 3. Lloyd Brown Sr., a laborer, died Nov. 6 of cardiac arrest at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 60. Mr. Brown was born in New Orleans and lived in Harvey. Survivors include his wife, Margarite Brown; a son, Lloyd Brown Jr.; two daughters, Sonya G. Williams and Yolanda Brown; four brothers, Clarence, Reginald, Cleveland and Lawrence Brown; six sisters, Nevanda B. Jackson, Ella Mae Mitchell, Earlene Hicks, Rose Mary Brown, Carolyn Gray and Beverly Boyd; and 13 grandchildren. Gerald Martin, a carpenter, died Saturday of undetermined causes at Charity Hospital. He was 61. Mr. Martin was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a graduate of L.B. Landry High School. He had worked for the city of Gretna, Mattel Toy Store and the Metropolitan Development Center. Survivors include his companion, Alice Sullivan; two daughters, Elizabeth Denise Martin of Waco, Texas, and Gerry Alicia Martin McKey; two brothers, Isaac Martin of California and John Martin Jr.; five sisters, Lois Mae Andry of Los Angeles, Mary Louise Hammond of Arizona and Cleo Washington, Brenda Anderson and Joi Elvira Franklin; and seven grandchildren. Idora Gordon Dixon, a homemaker, died Sunday at Touro Infirmary Specialty Hospital. She was 95. Mrs. Dixon was born in Greensburg and lived in New Orleans for the past 76 years. Desmond "Doc" Johnson, a former cook at Commander's Palace, died Nov. 6 of a gunshot wound in the 1700 block of Urquhart Street. He was 28. Mr. Johnson was born in Metairie and lived in New Orleans before moving to Harvey. He attended Grace King High School. He was a former employee of Brennan's Restaurant, Barracks Street Cafe and the Palm Court Cafe. Jonnie R. Childress, a retired mechanical technician with Mobil Oil, died Wednesday of cancer at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was 57. Mr. Childress was born in Baton Rouge and lived in Slidell for the past 20 years. He was an honorary member of the Misfits Hot Rod Automobile Club in Gulfport, Miss. He was a sergeant in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Schneller Childress; a son, John C. Childress; a daughter, Katie M. Childress; his father, Charles O. Childress of Metairie; his mother, Shirley Bonaventure Childress of Metairie; and a brother, Conrad C. Childress of Chalmette. Coralee Marguerite Ledet Weimer, a retired registered nurse, died Sunday of cancer at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 81. Mrs. Weimer was born in Algiers and lived in Baton Rouge for many years. She was a member and former state president of the local United Daughters of the Confederacy and held every position except president for the national office. She received the Winnie Davis Award for work above and beyond the call of duty. Mrs. Weimer received the Harry Blowell Memorial Award for outstanding volunteer work from the Jewish War Veterans Post 580, and the Freeport McMoRan Giving Something Back Volunteer Award from WAFB television in Baton Rouge. Survivors include her husband, George Weimer; four sons, Randy, David and Kenneth Weimer and George Weimer III; a sister, Verna Hammer; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2250 Main St., Baton Rouge. Mrs. Prattini was born in New Orleans and lived in River Ridge for the past 38 years. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Charismatic Renewal of New Orleans. Survivors include her husband, Philip Prattini III; two sons, Thomas O. Prattini and Philip Prattini IV; her father, Opeo H. Frey; her mother, Lillian S. Frey; two sisters, Linda Lafonte and Sandra Robertson; and three grandchildren. George J. "Rockhead" Fanning, former owner of Fanning Inc., died Wednesday at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 82. Mr. Fanning was born in New Orleans and lived in Gretna for the past 27 years. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and Louisiana State University. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an officer with the First Division, and he received the Bronze Star, Silver Star and two Purple Hearts. Survivors include four sons, Michael G., Patrick J., Terrence J. and George A. Fanning; two daughters, Kathleen F. Lyons and Mary Frances Fanning; a stepson, Robert L. Cabes; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
